Although Chesire Racing has that traditional ambience about it, it does feel horribly out-of-date. Not only that, but its interior is dull and lacks the modern feel compared to bookmakers such as Paddy Power and Coral. For me, it definitely could do with a bit of refurbishment(at least) and when you think about all the money bookmakers gain, it is hard to imagine why there haven’t been any changes. I didn’t particularly find it comfortable in here because it just felt drab. On the other hand, it still operates well for popular sports betting and offers competitive odds. As the name of the shop suggests, this bookmakers is particularly focussed on racing sports so if you like your horses and greyhounds, then this isn’t such a bad place to bet. For other sports such as football, you will find more coupons and variety of bets in other bookmakers such as Ladbrokes. As well as here, most other bookmakers also offer in-play betting too. Overall, not a prime choice for betting.

I normally hesitate to review chain establishments as often they don’t capture the spirit of a local area and there is nothing distinguishable about them. Having said this I felt that the Cheshire Racing Bookmakers on London Road was still worth a special mention. I visit alot of bookmakers but for some reason Cheshire Racing stuck with me, not because it was flashy and extravagant in fact far from it but because it seemed to have a real air of authenticity a throwback to darkened bookmakers of old. There was a dartboard mounted on the wall when I entered and I got the impression that the place had not been decorated for quite some time, but this did not detract from the place it simply made it feel more of a real experience. Bookies are not supposed to be plush and luxurious and when you enter a William Hill or a Ladbrokes today it almost feels wrong that there is no old man puffs of smoke coming from his mouth can in hand shouting at the screen whilst his dog sit idly by. This may seem a strange thing to bemoan but the changes in the layout of Bookmakers have in my opinion detracted from the experience of making a trip to place a bet. This establishment however without being dirty or grotty felt authentic and lived in and it was refreshing to see so. The odds were also more competitive than in larger chains and there was an option to bet in play, in store on football matches something not matched by other bookmakers. This place may have been a throwback to the old days but it felt great.
