I just don’t get the other reviews for here, let me make this straight forward… If you like Greek food this is not the place for you. You could seriously knock up a better Greek from shop bought goods from Morrisons. We started with tzatziki and tahini with pitta, both were very poor and the bread wasnt as good as most supermarkets. Very disappointed we went on to starters with calamari and my wife had stuff vine leaves, the calamari had clearly been frozen rings you can buy anywhere, very poor quality and very rubbery. My wife had the vine leaves and again the standard of them was very poor. My main of stifado tasted like cat meat and my wife has haloumi salad, sadly the haloumi was past the point of eating when it arrived. Haloumi should come straight from the grill/pan to the plate SOFT! All in all a really bad experience, this used to be half decent place a few years back but they have really gone downhill. If you want to sample the best Greek food anywhere and I mean Greece and Cyprus in that go to Eureka in town.

The restaurant is set over two floors, with wooden floors and a bar. I was pleased to see that there is a good selection of vegetarian and fish dishes. My favourite vegetarian dish is always dolmades — vine leaves specially stuffed with savory rice and herds. I first tried dolmades when visiting a cypriot friend. We went out for dinner and had the most delicious food including dolmades. Add tzatziki, houmous, olives and greek salad — yum yum yum!

Lefteris is a great Greek restaurant on Allerton Road which actually has a feel of Greece! The culture and atmosphere will prove to be a real important part of your night. The music and the décor of the restaurant will make you feel like you’re back on your holidays. The food is great with a wide range of meals no matter what sort of thing you’re into — there is plenty to choose from, meat, fish or veggie. The restaurant has had a makeover not too long ago, which has proved to be a part of Lefteris’ success along Allerton Road, as it now has the look that you seem to need to make it down this popular stretch. My main downfall is the fact that they only accept cash — not ideal when you are large party dining out.

Established as a local, cosy Greek Taverna, this restaurant has since expanded and revamped itself to be a modern equivalent of the typical Greek. The interiors are cool and clean with a more minimalist feel than the usual trellises and vines and pottery that you’re accustomed to. The atmosphere here would suit a place in the city centre rather than suburbia — the staff are friendly and efficient, the music evocative but not overpowering and the general feeling is that you can have an authentic Greek experience without someone smashing your plates. The food is amazing — I’m a big fan of Mediterranean flavours and after spending some time living in Cyprus I’m an even bigger fan of Greek and Turkish tastes. For meat lovers, the Keftedes meatballs is a good place to start. Lefteris’ house special Ouzo Chicken is also something not to be missed, although I’m a fan of the traditional Mousaka, Kleftiko and Stifado. If you’re a veggie, you can’t go wrong with the Houmous, Tzatziki and Tahini dips to start, and then there’s veggie Mousaka or my favourite, Dolmades(stuffed vine leaves) which are delish. Prices are reasonable — you’re looking at around £14 for a main — and if you’re a fan of all things Greek, this is somewhere you must try.
