Liverpool Wall of Fame

Apparently Liverpool has had more number one hits than any other city in Britain and can stand shoulder to shoulder with other great cities of popular music such as New York or Detroit. If you think about that, seriously think about it, that is an amazing feat for a city of this size. Liverpool has certainly been punching above its weight.
The way to commemorate this has been through a wall of replica gold discs. A little bit cheap and tacky but then it kind of sums up Liverpool too! The wall fittingly stands at the top end of Matthew St in Liverpool’s Beatles and pop culture tourist trap near to the Cavern Club so very often you will find the place crowded with tourists having their pictures taken next to it.

Tucked away at the end of Matthew Street is the Liverpool Wall of Fame. Unveiled in Spring 2001, it looks rather cheap and shabby compared to the Cavern Club Wall of Fame a few footsteps away. The walls are currently painted bright pink and feature 54 discs to represent the 54 No 1 singles to emerge from the city since 1952.
Alongside 50s and 60s groups like The Searchers and Gerry and The Pacemakers, there’s solo artists like Billy Fury and jazz singer Lita Rosa. As you’d expect however, a large portion of the wall bears the stamp of The Beatles and timeless No 1s like ‘Help!’, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ and ‘Hey Jude’.
The wall to the left features strips of black and white photos of the different groups with the date and name of their hits. Depressingly, the last entry listed is by Atomic Kitten!
The Searchers searching…

This wall is home to some of the most famous bands in the world. Each band who has played at the cavern has their name engraved onto the wall outside.

Opposite the Cavern, on the wall, next to the John Lennon statue, u can find The Wall of Fame.
A hundred and a hundred of bricks inscribed with the names of the all the groups that appeared at the original club from 1957 until 1973.
Close, u can find a collection of Gold Disc replicas, of all those bands who have had number ones. The oldest is Lita Roza, 1953, and the latest, 2002, Atomic Kitten.
