Favourite place in the world!!! If you are a cheesy pop lover like oneself you will be in your element. Dj plays everything from the 80s, 90’s to today’s top chart hits so there is a bit of everything to suit everyone’s taste. Who doesn’t love a good cheesy beat when you are out for a night on the town! Cheap drink and party atmosphere what more could you ask for under one roof

Popworld is the type of bar it should be easy to malign. However, you’ll find that the truth is it’s actually consistently good fun and unashamedly hedonistic. It’s certainly over the top, from the name to the somewhat overzealous, yet likeable, DJ. The crowd is diverse. You’ll find Concert Square student types, as well as the Matthew Street-esque hen party crowd. All ages, over eighteen of course, are welcome. It’s the kind of bar in which you’ll actually run in to people you know and arguably one of the only bars in Liverpool you can guarantee won’t be dead at virtually any points in the night. It truly is at the heart of Liverpool’s night life, in every sense of the phrase. The soundtrack mixes chart-topping dance anthems with cheesy 70s, 80s and 90s favourites. It’s far from perfect. I can’t ever imagine spending an entire night there but the drinks are fairly priced and the bar staff, as far as I recall, are always friendly and accommodating. As I’ve mentioned, it’s the type of place you’ll find yourself warming to the more you go. My advice? Set yourself free and leave your worries at the door.

Oh good grief, another cheesy 70’s bar, as if there weren’t enough of these in city centres. Thankfully though, Popworld is one of the least painful of these. The club is a reasonable size, which makes the tacky strip lighting, 70’s disco floor and poles a little more bearable. The atmosphere is fun and friendly. The DJ is happy to take requests and the staff are very helpful. The bar has a huge range of cheap drinks from bottles to shots, and the staff are happy to recommend a drink for you. This is not my sort of place, but it is really not too bad. It has a nice atmosphere and everyone seems to be out to enjoy themselves. So every once in a while, why the heck not?

One of the few good things about the music in cheese clubs is that, owing to decades of radio overplay, you probably know a lot of the lyrics when certain songs come on. Say what you like about the Grease Megamix but if I write down the words«I got chills…» then automatically your brain will fire back«they’re multiplyin’», hopefully aloud, as you sit staring at a computer like a chimp watching a maggot behind glass. If I’ve done my job correctly then the whole damn song is playing in your head right now. Tee hee. A cheesy but acceptable song will come blasting out the speakers ever so rarely in Popworld. Then what little enjoyment you grasped hold of during it will be trampled into the ground by the DJ. Why do these kind of DJs all talk the bloody same? With their vainglorious, mumbling machine-gun delivery that starts with«Comin’ up for you now at Popworld…» and ends with a shout-out for Jenny’s 21st. The only fun to be had is constantly getting him to do shout-outs for people and/or birthdays that don’t exist, and that probably says more about me than it does about him.

If you relish a huge cheese fest this is the place for you, Popworld is literally a world of pop. Situated amongst other bars and clubs in Liverpool city centre, Popworld does stand out due its garish colours, and the brightly coloured theme does not end at the front door. Inside is just as you can imagine, something similar to what I expect to find inside Elton John’s garage! The club is ok, it’s not my first choice of club, but it seems to be extremely popular with students in particular. Ideal for dancing, cheap drinks and classic pop music.

Once you’ve passed the bouncer at the door and entered this club, the sound of music playing as you walk up the staircase hits you full on! As the name of the club suggests, you will love this place if you enjoy pop music as the DJ will play both modern and classic numbers that remind you of the good old days! If you go in before 10pm, its free entrance like most clubs. For all those wishing to pole dance, it’s an ideal place for you to strut your stuff! Atmosphere is electric, typically on a Friday and Saturday night as you would expect and it’s a fine place to hang out with friends depending on your music taste which can be considered a bit cheesy at times but absolutely nothing wrong with that! There is a big silver and shiny rotating mirror ball which also adds to the club’s vibrant ambience. Popworld is in fact a small club with limited seats therefore a little more space would perhaps be better. When ordering drinks, you have to be careful you don’t clash into anyone and cause any unwanted spillages because it does get really packed.

Among the cluster of excellent nightlife you’ll find on Hanover Street is Popworld, an unashamed cheese fest of epic proportions. The bright colours and mirrorballs of Flares with an added couple of decades’ worth of music, it certainly ticks all boxes and crosses all Ts. A friendly DJ who’s open to requests is a must at places like this, and you’re bound to hear some forgotten tunes from your long-buried youth. Because it covers such a wide period of music this applies to a varied age range, so no matter how young you are or whether you’re feeling old next to all the students in there, you’ll still find something you like. As well as the DJ being pleasant, the bar staff are welcoming too, selling all kinds of cheap drinks. There are plenty of places to sit as well once you’ve danced your legs off. Can you remember the routine to the Macarena? You’ll need to in here.
