Rococo

Went for lunch and the restaurant was busy, but not uncomfortably so. The building is really nice and covers the entire first floor of an oldish building. The ambience is really quite lovely, though it may be a bit hectic for studying.
We ordered a jacket potato with goat cheese and onion chutney, a chorizo and mozzarella panini, and hot chocolate, all for a little over £13. Service was great, food was delicious, and the location was perfect for an afternoon out.

When visiting Liverpool I met up with a friend for lunch and she suggested Rococo. Tucked away up a set of stairs from one of the busiest streets in the city it’s a lovely little spot to grab some sustenance and watch the world go by. I ended up returning for a cake & coffee the next day!
The place itself is surprisingly big, with extra seating towards the back. On both of my visits it was busy, but not jam packed, which provided a nice atmosphere and made it feel very homely. The big cosy couches would be the perfect place to relax with friends and catch up over sweet treats.
Food wise, the menu seems relatively basic but covers a decent amount of areas. I had a sandwich which was on the larger side yet only cost about £3, great value for money. I’d say that the cakes are their downfall, as I didn’t find them to be that great a standard but I am very fussy when it comes to baked goods!
The service was friendly and prompt, and I imagine if I lived in the city I’d be visiting Rococo on a regular basis.

Fantastic little independent café in the heart of Liverpool. Worth a visit just for the eccentric seating and wide variety of coffee menu alone, sandwiches are pretty appetising too.
This venue is part of independent Liverpool so for that reason alone I hope it thrives in relation to its chain competition across the road.
Stop by here during a busy shopping and sightseeing trip and you won’t be dissapointed. If you’re really lucky you’ll get a window view over the city centre too!

Looking for a break from the usual big coffee shops? Then try here. The place is like a clowns pocket. Looks tiny from the outside but it’s huge inside. Very reasonable prices and good quality food. It’s currently my favourite Sunday afternoon sit off. Watch the world go by from the windows over looking the street or chill in one of the smaller rooms in the back.
Situated up the end of a long set of stairs on Lord steer opposite home bargains. Keep your eyes open because you may miss it.

Popped in here on Saturday whilst out shopping with my Mum and was very surprised to see how busy it was… and how much it’s grown since last time I visited there a number of years back!
It was absolutely chock full of very happy looking customers and there was a whole lovely new back room that I’m pretty sure wasn’t there last time I was. The service was speedy despite the long queue and the staff friendly despite how busy they clearly were. The décor is lovely, my favourite elements being the giant chandelier and the vintage piano.
The atmosphere was really pleasant; the overall vibe of the place manages to convey cool classiness and warmth at the same time. Although the bread of the mozzarella and chorizo panino I ordered was a little floppy and the chorizo a bit a bit too chewy it was tasty nevertheless and the tea I ordered was just right (and with me being such a tea fan you don’t often hear me say that!).
The cakes looked delicious as well… wish I’d had room for a slice! Will definitely be saving space for the chocolate and Guiness next time!
I’m very glad I’ve rediscovered this hidden gem above Lord Street and will definitely not be leaving so long till my next visit this time.

Rococo is fast becoming one of my favourite coffee shops in Liverpool.
An independent gem, it’s tucked above the T-​Mobile shop and oozes rustic charm and character. The walls are exposed brick, the floorboards are stripped back and the furniture consists of lots of cosy sofas, leather arm chairs and wooden tables. Chandeliers glisten from the ceiling and the music ranges from cool pop and indie to free jazz.
As for the food, Rococo’s menu is as stripped back as the décor with a small but ample selection of paninis, soups, salads and sarnies. They also have fab homemade cakes from lemon and orange to classic Victoria sponge. All the coffee is fairtrade and take-​away lattes, cappucinos and americanos are a snip at a £1.
Best of all, Rococo is open morning til night and often has live bands performing. If they threw in complimentary books and magazines, I’d probably consider going on a daily basis. :-)

La Rococo is a joint that reminds me blissfully of the Trof equivalents in Manchester. You simply cannot buy über cool vibes. You just have it, and this place does. It is a testament to any establishment that the cool kids in town choose you as a meet up venue. Just like friends chose Central Perk, firends in this town have Rococo high on their list.
I for one have been suggested many times this place as a point of rendezvous. Now I could tell you about the offerings but find that everytime I have been here I cannot for the life of me remember what I had. I was so blisssfully engaged in friendly banter enjoying the accomodating environment that my drinks passed me by.

With youth on its side, this difficult to pronounce coffee shop is one of those independents we all seek out and know we should really visit instead of identikit Neros and Starbuckses. After all, who doesn’t want a little variation in their bean, a little more homemade rustic ambience to their muffins and cakes? Rococo fits the bill and then some.
Tucked away on the first floor of the building in which it resides, it’s one of those easy to miss little gems that hasn’t yet been taken over entirely by hoards of city slickers. Amazing considering its proximity to Liverpool One, and an added bonus if you’re looking to get away from the madding crowd. The quirky and plush interior really does give it something special as well. Big sofas and armchairs, damask gold flecks on the walls, and my favourite thing to contrast it all — bare brick walls and well kept floorboards. It also manages to remain cosy due to its somewhat dinky size. The service, while not having that take-​under-​your-​wing and almost hug you vibe many Liverpool independents have, is absolutely fine. It’s prompt, it’s efficient and it’s not overly chatty, which sometimes is just what you’re in the mood for. And if you’re planning a long stay, you can grab a glass of wine or a bottle of beer in the evening when it takes on much more of a bar atmosphere.
Grub-​wise you do actually get your food brought over to you but you pay at the counter, as with many bars. The sandwiches are fresh and made to order as opposed to suffocating in cellophane all day like many coffee shop butties do. Panini melts are particularly good here and you can choose your fillings as and when — classics like tuna, brie, bacon, roast veg, meatballs, honey roast ham and similar. The portions are mighty generous too and the cakes are rather stunning, starting at a mere £1.85. Cappuccinos are only £1.95 which is nothing short of a miracle in this day and age, and the alcoholic drinks are fairly reasonable too. Friday night is live jazz and swing, and as a result it’s two for one on beverages throughout the evening. DEFINITELY not to be sniffed at.
All in all a simple, pretty place I’d happily return to.

What a little find, and you do have to search for it surprisingly hard to come across it despite Rococo being right under your nose — or rather just above your head.
I have no idea how long this place has been here for but it could have opened a decade ago and I would never have found only to come across it through Unilocal’s intrepid explorers.
Found at the top of a set of stairs above the shops of busy Lord street, Rococo feels like a coffee shop that could be found in Amersterdam — not one of those — or Paris. The big bay windows provide a good spot for people watching on the busy street below or plenty of big armchairs offer comfy seating. Oh yes and good coffee!

Rococo is an independently owned coffee bar (on the first floor of 62 Lord Street) featuring stylish yet relaxing décor. You can choose from a wide selection of hot beverages, alcoholic drinks including liqueur lattes, and freshly prepared food ranging from hot panini’s to indulgent slabs of cake, courtesy of Liverpool institution Dafna’s Cheesecake Factory.
I went for one of their many selections of panini’s (cold) as I wanted something quick to munch on for lunch. After much time standing in front of the fridge, I chose the cajun chicken panini for £3.75 which did not disappoint. Usually cold food does not whet my appetite but on a warm day, it was something of a healthy choice instead of me going for a fry up.
Inside was quite impressive in terms of décor as the building does not look much from the outside, plus I hardly ever notice this place and when I do, I tend to think of it as just an average café but it had a luxury feel about it, including posh chairs and sofas. The prices are generally dear but you are paying for good food and service, with a pleasant environment to go with it. This wonderful city centre café is like a hidden gem in disguise.

At the top of a steep set of stairs off Lord Street is the stylish and civilised Rococo. A café exuding class and high quality with the high-​backed studded leather seating, chandeliers and gold furnishings practically dripping from the walls. It cuts a fine shape and you feel above the hustle and bustle of the main street, (mainly because you are, but also because you feel so darned refined!)
They serve a selection of iced drinks for the summer — a frappé to remind me of a hot summer in Cyprus, refreshing and nostalgic!
Yummy cakes — try the lemon, the icing is so good! And some elegantly prepared sandwiches and paninis (roast pepper and goats cheese, mmm) It’s a good place to go with your laptop to do a bit of work, with a light lunch on the side of course!
Rococo is deceptively big with an extra room full of comfy couches and also up some More stairs, a function room which hosts live gigs and can be hired out for free.
Also, is Jazz in cafes the new ‘in’ thing? If so, Rococo have jumped on said bandwagon and have a great jazz night on Fridays after 7pm. They also serve alcohol so if you fancy a cheeky tipple in sophisticated relaxed surroundings then Go Go to Rococo!

Rococo is a fantastic alternative to the soulless chain coffee stores that are often overpriced and understaffed. Situated on Lord street, its entrance tucked away in between 2 large stores, rococo commands a fantastic view of the high street and if you are lucky enough to secure a window seat, your coffee can be enjoyed with plenty to watch on the street below.
Whilst rococo is great for a daytime break from shopping, it really comes into its own in the evening when it transforms from coffee bar to a wonderful bar bistro. A must is the live jazz night which occurs every other Friday with a variety of talented jazz musicians. I stumbled upon this night trying to escape the rain one Friday night. The coffee was cheap and well brewed and there was even a selection of bottled beers on offer should I have wished for something stronger! However I would suggest getting there early if you want a seat on one of the incredibly comfy sofa’s as jazz night is quite popular.

Rococo is one of those delightful little secrets that I hate to review because now everyone will know about it. However, that being said, it’s also fun to share secrets.
The name of this coffee house comes from the term rococo, referring to a French style of architecture, influenced by the Baroque, Regence, and Georgian, and dating back to the 18^th Century. The style is distinguished by elaborate decorations such as gold leaf, scrolls, and the fleur-​de-​lis. The term also refers to a style of music, also from France.
If you didn’t know this coffee house was there, you would probably never stumble upon it. It’s located on Lord Street, sandwiched between larger shops, and up a long, steep staircase. Upstairs you will find the coffee bar inside a small, deliciously furnished dining-​room style area with beautiful hardwood floors, off of which are two larger, plusher parlours where you can enjoy your coffee in the comfort of an armchair by the fireplace.
They are also open during the evening hours, compared with most chain coffee shops in Liverpool that seem to close their doors right when you actually really need some caffeine. Alcoholic beverages are also served in the evenings.
When I visited, it was fairly quiet in the early evening, which is always a plus for me. The fact that it’s tucked away, and upstairs, means fewer people find it worth the effort, and of course you won’t find lots of small, screaming children in prams. Another major plus.
They also serve small meals, sandwiches, and snacks. Prices are reasonable, coffee is fair-​trade, and there is also takeout service available. You can’t beat that.

I think this has to be one of my favourite coffee houses. The key attractive features for me are the fact that the coffee is Fair Trade (v. important) and secondly they do really cheap take out coffee at a £1 or 86p with a loyalty card.
For none coffee drinkers there is tea and hot chocolate etc! Fancy a bite to eat, they offer breakfast and when it gets to lunchtime — panini’s, sandwiches and soup. Thankfully they also do cake — good!
Interestingly enough the coffee house isn’t just a day thing. They also have a jazz night every other Friday. Or if you want your own event then you can hire the place for free. They welcome book clubs, university groups etc… cool!
