I like how they constantly keep coming to top up your tea or coffee. The waiters get to flex the muscles when holding a kettle in each of their hands. LOL. Breakfast is quite yummy. I ordered mushroom and eggs, toast, prosciutto. It was lovely. Chocolate milkshake is quite filling as well. The décor was nice, there was even a psuedo cowboy gun displayed on the wall and with the saying next to it «please check your gun» at the center. Lovely little place, perfect for a easy peasy day.

The best place for breakfast I have ever been to. The price is reasonable and sometimes they have 241 deals on. The quality of the food is amazing I absolutely love it here. The Mexican food at night is also lovely too. I recommend it.

I am a big fan of Mexican restaurants, however I’ve never tried an american /mexican restaurant before, and I have to say that I was gladly impress about the way they’re running their business At first glance, the atmosphere is warm and the place is nice and cozy just to begin with. Secondly, facility is roomy and there is also plenty space to move yourself around without shoving people. Secondly, we ordered a side of nachos for warming up a bit before the main course arrived and I was just shattered about the size of the plate… it was hugely big and well presented. When the main course arrived it caught me on the ropes coz I was already full just with the nachos. To summarize, very recommendable restaurant, with reasonable prices and rather large portions. You won’t be disappointed.

Having sampled many an alcoholic beverage the night before myself and my Aussie relatives who visited me last week were feeling somewhat delicate last Friday morning. Correction — we all felt completely wrecked. I feared that I may not make it through the day… and then I had a brainwave… «Do you guys fancy a full English?» I said. «Do we ever!» they both replied. And so we made our bleary-eyed way to The Tavern on Smithdown Road for one of their legendary breakfasts. My uncle and I plumped for the full English(sans the black pudding but with an extra fried egg for me) and my uncle’s girlfriend had the ‘Breakfast at TIffany’s’ which is American style pancakes with smoked streaky bacon, scrambled eggs and Aunt Jemima’s pancake syrup. I don’t know who Aunt Jemima is but she ought to know she made a hungover Australian very happy that day. The bottomless tea and coffee offering at The Tavern is just brilliant, not least because the tea was surprisingly good as well as copious. We also treated ourselves(although I’m not sure ‘treat’ is quite the right word) to the hair of the dog in the form of a Bloody Mary each and boy did that wake us all up. Wowzers! Great stuff. The music in The Tavern that morning(mainly classic soul) was also great and lifted our hungover spirits. The only complaint we had(and it was such a shame because until then the service had been brilliant) was that we had to ask THREETIMES for glasses of water and when they did arrive we’d already paid the bill and were on our way out. It just seemed so silly that three glasses of water were so much more difficult to conjure up than three enormous breakfasts, three Bloody Marys and constant tea and coffee. They definitely ought to have bottles or jugs of tap water on the tables. However, it certainly wasn’t enough to put me off and I will no doubt be heading there the next time I’m feeling a little delicate from the night before…

Most Americans wouldn’t put Mexican and BBQ together, but I can make an exception for Tavern Co. I would say the cuisine is more Tex-Mex/Cajun than anything. Still, I never complained about my Halloumi Sandwich. In fact, I laughed that it was the first time I had ever tried halloumi… in the UK of all places! It’s a good combination of flavors between the saltiness of the cheese and the sweetness of the chili sauce. My friends and I always enjoyed dinners here, and seeing how well-established Tavern Co. is, I would recommend any European to get a taste of the American South here.

Today, I discovered the meaning of life. I have travelled halfway across the earth, from a hot Australian summer straight into a cold and damp English winter. With a 20kg load on my back, I venture solo on a quest to find this fabled Tavern Co, because the Internet suggested that I should. Thank you internet. On arrival, I was greeted by the non acknowledgement of the bar tender. There was a very brief moment of eye contact, just enough for her to know that I was there, but in a split second she was doing her thing, just enough for me to know that she didn’t care. Not the best first impression, but the odds & bits décor of the place quickly distracted me. A bit later on, I realised that I was clearly standing in the non service area… My bad. I asked the manager if I can park my bags under the«No Parking» sign & he laughed, before putting me in the queue. Eyeing off a bottle of tabasco sauce & celery behind the bar, I ordered a Bloody Mary from said bartender, who wasted no time with small talk, but then proceeded to make the most delicious Bloody Mary I’ve had in awhile. The drink helped to pass the twenty or so minute wait for my table for one. One glance at the menu, & I knew I had to try the American breakfast, and the peanut butter & jelly shake. The shake came out almost immediately, & I was careful not to finish the whole thing & ruin my appetite for the breakfast proper. There is something about English bacon, something even more special than just regular ordinary bacon. Half buried under beans, that also covered one of the two perfectly fried eggs, crispy on the edges & runny in the yellow. Gourmet chipotle sausages, and some mad flavourful potato cubes with herbs. Just as I sadly swallowed the last piece of bacon(which I of course left for last), I realised I still had a whole pancake drenched in syrup that comes with the American breakfast. The saddest part of the meal was knowing that I will be flying halfway across the world soon and all that will be left of this breakfast for me will be the Instagram photo I took of it, & the savoury sweet memories. That was the moment I realised that the meaning of life was to come back to the Tavern Co again one day, and maybe two days, or ten days or fifty twelventeen days. P/S: the free flow coffee was pretty shit. Maybe should’ve had tea instead.

The Tavern Company is a huge restaurant situated on the outskirt of Liverpool. The first impression you get as you walk is it that it is warm, cosy and friendly. The menu at the Tavern is extensive, offering a variety of Mexican chillies, burgers, ribs, seafood and creole and Mexican dishes. There is a lunch menu available, daily specials and also a children’s menu. The waiter who served me and my friends last time I went to the Tavern was friendly, efficient and made a huge effort to ensure we were completely happy. The food took a little while to arrive but it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was packed. The food was gorgeous. I had a burger which was massive, juicy and very tasty. The portions are generous and you will not leave the Tavern Company hungry.

The Tavern Company Mexican BBQ is a fairly well themed Mexican restaurant with a dark wood interior. It occupies a large unmissable space on Smithdown road with a wood exterior sign. The atmosphere at peak times is good and friendly; the portions are fairly large and pretty tasty, although The Mexican BBQ seems to be a bit hit and miss to be honest, sometimes it is a good meal and sometimes not. The enchiladas aren’t the best and worth missing out really. The breakfasts are consistently good however and recommendable. The best advice would be to book a table to ensure a seat, the staff are accommodating to customers’ needs and seemed to be pretty light on the ground at some peak times.

The Tavern must have been here about 20 years and has a warm and comfortable feel — even if the food is comfort food. It is owned and run by an American family. We enjoyed the visit and had no complaints about the service or the servers attitude. I’m not really into margarita’s but being a Mexican restaurant, they are a popular choice here. I’m always suprised there are not more Mexican style restaurants around. Next to Japanese, it my favourite style of food thats so tasty and not unhealthy. The Tavern has some good offers including a kids eat free policy which is always a winner.

It’s a good job this place is dark otherwise everybody would be able to witness me clutching effeminately at my throat and begging for a glass of water. Yeah, I’m not great at eating spicy Mexican food. Still, I’m glad a place like this exists so close to my house. The food is all delicious despite the volcanic fury of its heat and the atmosphere is one of gentle relaxation where the staff don’t mind how long you take, even though they do. If you’re in the mood to develop a massive, immediate addiction, get a portion of the Cajun Popcorn, its a fistful of succulent crayfish tails battered, deep-fried and served with chilli mayo. Combining the paradise that is seafood with the moreishness of pistachio nuts, this is something you’ll be frenetically shoving into your gob for months afterwards. Then comes rehab.

The Tavern is one of those places that has plenty of atmosphere to compensate for the menu and staff. I have never come here and found the staff helpful or pleasant — we all know that restaurant work can be tiring and irritating but really? do we need to know? The food is hearty, warm American/Mexican style barbecue food with plenty of ribs, nachos, chillis and platters. It isn’t the best food I’ve ever had but it’s not really about the quality here, more the quantity so it’s the type of place to bring the kids for some fun finger food and there is usually plenty of them running around which can often spoil the dark, candlelit ambience for any couples heading here for a romantic evening. The breakfasts here are very popular so come along early or book but once here the menu is very accomodating for swapping and changing any of the bits you do or don’t like.

The Tavern is a small chain of 3 restaurants across tthe North West, with 2 in Liverpool. The restaurant situated on Smithdown Road is excellent! The atmosphere is fab, with a dark and cosy, candlelit mood, it is perfect for an evening meal. The walls are decorated with old photos and pieces of art that you and your party are bound to talk about. The food is always of an excellent standard and not bad for the price. As a Mexican restaurant, you can expect to find anything from fajitas, enchiladas through to chicken burgers and bbq ribs. I strongly recommend the specials that the waiter suggests as I do, and have never been disappointed. The popcorn chicken starter is also one to watch out for! A brunch menu has been a successful idea at the Tavern, ranging from an all American breakfast through to a Mexican breakfast for around £6. This is available only at the weekends as far as I know, but they are willing to expand onto further days with enough support. Free coffee and tea is available for the whole time you are there. The only downside is that due to the popularlity of brunch, you can often wait for over an hour for a table as they don’t take bookings. Overall, I love this place, and if I’m ever stuck for anywhere to go to eat, The Tavern is always my first choice.

I’ve never eaten here and not enjoyed it. Somewhere my dad was fond of when I was younger, we tended to come here for meals every so often. The menu centres around barbecue, grills and Mexican flavours, so expect lots of variety. I prefer to order a selection of starters than put my eggs in one basket with a main, so you get a tapas feel as well. Being Mexican, you can expect a fair amount of cheese and spices on the food, and this is definitely not somewhere to go if you’re on a diet and wavering. You will fall off the diet wagon with a hefty thump here! The food is delicious though, so you can convince yourself you deserve it. The lighting is dim and mostly candles, so ideal for a cosy date if you’re that way inclined. Not for a first date though, as I discovered! Prices are reasonable — no more than £15 for a main and the starters/tapas from £4 to £7 each — a selection of 5 would feed two quite happily. Not a massive range of desserts but enough to keep everyone satisfied, and the bar is fully stocked. They do offer a fixed price menu too — check out the website for some good offers.

This place gets so busy, but they will always find a place to squeeze you in. The portions are big and tasty, not too spicey as Mexican can sometimes be. Always a good atmosphere, one negative would be how dark it gets in there. My friend couldnt even read the menu last time. Its also great for breakfast, with free refills of coffee and tea and all teh weekend papers on offer what more could you ask for?

Absolutely one of my favourite places to go in the whole of Liverpool! Hard to choose between this one and the one in town, although I do love the extension at the back of this one which makes you feel like you’re sitting outside! Really friendly staff, who can never do too much to help. Lovely setting, wooden reclaimed tables. A huge menu, literally full of really tasty things. As a starter I tend to go for the nachos as they just can’t be beaten but then for a main course you really are spoilt for choice. I absolutely love the ribs, but obviously in polite compavy you may prefer to go for something a little less carniverous. I can also vouch for the chicken burger and the fajitas. Portions are huge, and the garlic bread is almost a whole loaf! I never have room for dessert, but I’m sure they’re delicious too!

Situated just on the border of studentville and the posher end of Smithdown Road, like the previous reviewer said, this place does get extremely busy, both in the evenings, weekends and breakfasts, so it’s best to book. Even then, you end up having a drink in the bar at times. The food is probably best described as ‘English’ mexican — having been to Mexico, it’s not exactly authentic, but in an English sort of way is quite nice. I normally keep away places with laminated menus, as it shows the food never changes — certainly the menu here is the same as it was 5 years ago, but here it’s sort of expected and quite nice to have some familiarity. Tacos, burritos, nachos, lots of cheesy and dippy-type foods, burgers, onion rings, etc.: you get the drift. Certainly spicy scrambled egg in a big burrito for breakfast is an eye-opener! Decent food at a decent price, just don’t expect fois gras or gourmet dining. N.B. They have a sister restaurant, which as far as I know does exactly the same food as this one, in Queen Square in the centre of Liverpool.

The Tavern Company is one of Allerton’s finest eateries and home to the best fajitas this side of the M62! As well as a wonderful selection of Mexican dishes such as nachos and tortilla, the Tavern is one of the best places to get a fry-up on a Sunday morning. If you’re not a fan of the full-English then you can always get an American-style brekkie with pancakes, maple syrup and orange juice. Be warned though, the Tavern is very popular and is no secret amongst locals and students alike. It can be very hard to get a table and almost impossible at the weekend if you haven’t already booked. Despite the scramble for tables, once you get in the service is great and food is served with a smile! It is a bit out of the way if you’re not based in student-land around Allerton and Smithdown Road, but I’d thoroughly recommend a trip to the Tavern!
