This pub is situated very close to Liverpool University buildings and the Unite Student Village so is in prime student land, The Cambridge feels like more of a lecturer’s pub that a student’s pub. Whilst at uni I lived in the halls across the road and only visited The Cambridge a handful of times it didn’t have the right vibe. That all changed during the summer when they’d pour us pints in plastic glasses to drink in the hazy sunshine of Abercromby Square. The Cambridge would be nothing if it wasn’t a short hop to that square.

if a small traditional style pub is what you are after then this is the place to be, but on the edge of campus to Liverpool University it can be far from quite come an evening. great for quiet pint alone or in groups during the day with beer garden for summer and(as i just started up) a spot on pub duke box! our course mates regularly meet in force come a friday night and always see some old faces and some new, great mixing pot to meet people! would highly recommend. usually ale is banks/marstons/holdens etc

Aesthetically I think this is the nicest pub on campus; it just looks so old fashioned and quaint– despite being on the corner of a busy road. There are a few pub benches outside which are always full of students in the summer(friendly bunches not rowdy groups or gangs of hoodies) It’s a shame this seating overlooks the rather unattractive car park really. Inside, the pub retains some of that quaintness and offers comforable seating for drinking and dining..

There are a few pubs dotted around the uni campus and you could make cases for a visit to any one of them but The Cambridge is my own personal favourite. This may be so simply because it was the first place I stumbled accross or the fact I once avoided lectures for an entire day by seeking sanctuary here. Basically this is a good pub all round, it serves a good pint has comfortable surroundings and has an amazing location for lazy students who are aimlessly wandering around campus. The prices aren’t exactly cheap but they are reasonable and theres no cause for complaint there. This place manages to capture the right mix to draw in a student crowd as well as older locals who can often be seen propping up the bar and are always good for a chat. Proper pub, proper people and a properly good atmosphere so if your a student whose not in the mood for a boring day of intellect then head to The Cambridge and console yourself with a cold and relaxing pint.

In the three years I was an educational leech of the nearby University of Liverpool I never once stepped into the Cambridge. Maybe if I hadn’t been too lazy, poor and thick to miss out on a masters degree I would’ve been a regular. In fact, my maiden voyage wasn’t until a few weeks ago when I staggered off from a night out, vodka-fuelled, to try it all alone. The barmaid must’ve been trying so hard not to swoon. Inside, the pub is a surprisingly pleasant tavern of scraggy curtains and gloomy wood, like the cargo hold of the Pequod. Return visits on muggy afternoons have shown it to be just as affable when I’m sober, if not more.

Although this is obviously a proper pub with proper locals, it’s also situated in handy stones-throw distance from the Uni of Liverpool Sydney Jones Library and Humanities buildings, therefore I know this place as my hang-out lunch stop between lectures, post-exam de-stresser, crossword time with a cider kind of pub. I tend to see my tutors in here and it’s a cosy pub with friendly bar staff, the food is up to scratch and it’s a great atmosphere to just sit back and relax in. We like to sit at the same table, because it’s the very same one my mate’s dad used to sit at when he was a lad. Strange how things move on and some things stay the same! Good old Cambridge.

Proper boozer. With its close proximity to the University, the Cambridge’s main punters are students but luckily not the lairy, fancy dress wearing lot attracted to the flashing lights and shiny surfaces of other city centre bars. With only one telly, which may show the odd sporting event as long as its on terrestrial, this is a pub for drinking and socialising. And it has a dartboard. You know how hard it is to find a dart board in town these days? If you’re on the oche at closing time, the landlord will probably even join you for a quick game — just don’t beat him, it doesn’t go down well.

The only reason this place doesn’t get 5 stars is because last time I was here I asked for a bitter shandy and got given a pint of something foul tasting. When I took it back to the bar, the guy proceeded to explain to me why it tasted so bad — because this is how you have to pour a bitter shandy. Bla bla bla. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a bar manager, and I would never give anyone that to drink or be so obtuse and snotty if they brought it back. Grrr. Rant over. Otherwise, this is a nice little haven for students and people who haven’t realised they’re not students. There is a dart board at the back and food is served up til around 7pm, unless they’ve changed in recent years. As a student, you may sometimes bump into a professor, but they generally tend to be cool with it and either pretend they don’t know you or acknowledge you and move on. Not accuse you of drinking instead of studying, which had always been my fear. Prices are what you’d expect, food is average and atmosphere is good, plus you can get your drinks to go(in plastic cups) in the summer and go sit outside.

Occasionally I’ve seen people milling out front mid-day who look much too old to be students(and not quite drunk enough to be our professors), but in general this pub seems to be mostly frequented by University of Liverpool students. I first came here with a classmate because our building is a few doors down and we had an hour to kill. Even though I had tea, many students were already hitting the booze at 1pm. There’s food(which I haven’t tried yet) and the standard set of booze you’d expect from a pub. The inside is great– it’s small, but exactly like you’d expect an English pub to be. It’s cozy with a lot of wood décor and has a young, but friendly staff. I’ve had non-university friends meet me here at the end of the day and they’ve all enjoyed the pub, too. What usually brings me to the Cambridge is their Sunday night quiz that my coursemates participate in most weekends. Not being from England, I was a little thrown off because the quiz is in the style of a TV show(*I think*) called Blockbusters, so you have to get answers in a row right before you win. There’s also bingo and free snack foods(a major plus)! As far as I could tell, the quiz was free, but maybe I just got lucky. Also, don’t talk too loudly during the quiz(even if you think there’s a break going on) because you’ll get chastised by the announcer. Not that that’s ever happened to me… Trying to find a quiz in Liverpool I could make a regular weekly outing has been an adventure over the last year, but so far the Cambridge seems to be winning. Come by one Sunday night and see if you can beat us!

The cambridge is a nice little pub which is right near the university buildings, to one side you have Cambridge court the very popular student halls for all uni’s and on the other side you have some music buildings as well as further aside the University library and in front the uni gym. Therefore, it is accessible should you be wanting a break from the library, coming from a hard session at the gym or just wanting to get out the house. It is cheap inside so you will not be going home after 1 alone i wouldnt expect. It is also not far from the centre just a quick walk so you can start your nights out there! Awesome place!

The Cambridge is a nice little pub nex to Liverpool University. Despite looking like a traditional old mans pub it’s very popular with students and people working at the university. I go here often for a few cheeky after work drinks. There is a good range of beer on tap including a real ale(recently it’s often been Banks’s bitter, but sometimes it’s another Marstons beer)) carling, san miguel, kronenberg and strongbow. The prices are very reasonable and service is pretty good. There is a quiz machine, fruit machine and a dart board. As it’s so popular it tends to get very busy in late afternoons and early evenings, although it’s generally quite quiet outside these times.

I’ve been here a few times as it’s just down the road from the college. It looks like an old man’s pub and it is in that a lot of old men drink here but it’s also really popular with students because it’s just down the road from Liverpool Community College and the University of Liverpool. The drinks prices are good and they have San Miguel on tap. It’s quite civilised during the day but it does get really busy at lunchtime. The food is really quite bad. I had nachos and cheese for lunch. It cost £2.80 not exactly cheap. They were horrible. The general consensus is that the food is rubbish and pricey for what it is, but it’s a good place to have an afternoon drink.

At first seemed like a nice quiet pub, but as it turns out, has poor quality, expensive, beer. Having spent around twenty quid between myself and my girlfriend(around 4 pints each), the owner attempted to charge 25p service charge for a glass of tap water, and my girlfriend was ill for a few days later due to a questionable pint of Kronenbourg(other brands are available!). Worst pub I’ve been to in quite a while — ONETOAVOID!

A student hang out. This little establishment is perfect for a cheap beer and a burger after lectures. A quite and relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place for socialising and meeting with friends. It wouldnt be my choice for a heavy drinking session, but perfect for some lovely food. The friendly service from students earning a few quid is also refreshing. Its cramped back room makes for a cosy pub full of character and charm, with a few wiley old locals reading the paper with a pint of bitter.

The Cambridge is a well-known haunt among students from the University and nowhere else is it possible to get such cheap and chewy pizzas between lectures! It’s a cramped little bar, but it’s packed to the rafters with students, lecturers, tutors and various other interesting characters. It may not be the smartest looking pub, but it’s situated just off the gorgeous Abercromby Square and, in summer, has a load of benches outside where you can sup a fine ale(or a Carling) and watch the world go by. Don’t go here expecting a quality night out. Do go here if you want to have a cheaky pint after lectures/work/hard day! Oh, be prepared to lose a lot of money on the quiz machine!
