The Lamb is too lovely a pub for Picton High Street. With its elongated stretch of a bar, ornate fireplace and pleasantly-aromatic leather upholstery, the interior is more suited to a big old rustic tavern in the heart of the country, as opposed to someplace across the road from the Clock pub. A dozing cat and portraits of two unidentifiable Tudor ladies gave the empty pub a pleasantly comforting atmosphere when I visited midweek. Although half the building tumbled asunder a few years back, renovation work is long over, meaning there’s nothing stopping you from sitting with a pint and wondering why you’d pop anywhere else. Picton doesn’t deserve this place.

The Lamb is a combination of pub, hotel and restaurant. It is a huge 200 year old building with a great community atmosphere. The staff are warm and welcoming to anyone who walks through the door, regular punter or not. Live entertainment is provided with men’s League Darts night on a Monday; women’s League Darts night on a Tuesday; a poker and karaōke night on a Thursday; disco night on a Friday; karaōke night on a Saturday and Sunday. The food is a very reasonable price at about a fiver for a main meal, you can expect the usual pub food such as burgers, steaks and curries. The one unique thing about The Lamb is it’s 5 bedrooms upstairs, it is able to cater for 24 guests — ideal for stag and hen parties! The rooms are seperate from the pub, so you can come and go as you please with your own key.
