The Olive Tree is a lovely shop situated on Renshaw Street, in the city centre. It is a sort of new age hippy type shop, the sort that are few and far between these days. The have a range of products such as jewellery, homewares, books, DVDs, incense, candles, oils, CD’s, ceramics and ornaments. If you are looking for something to improve your surroundings, spiritual health and general well being, in a more natural way, then this is the place for you. The staff here are very friendly and happy to take time out to talk with you and explain the items they have on sale. Everything is reasonably priced and of an exceptionally good quality.

The Olive Tree is a small new age/holistic type shop on Renshaw Road in Liverpool. It’s small, but clean and well arranged, and due to all the candles and incense naturally smells nice, which is always a plus. They sell all kinds of new age(and related) items like crystals, beads, candles, feminist books, new age books, yoga DVD’s, and even some hippy style type jewellery. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

There are so many of these places in this end of town that it’s a wonder everyone walking around Bold Street isn’t in some sort of zombie-like daze of peace and tranquility. The Olive Tree, however does strike me as a real specialist in the area of Eastern traditions. Almost instantly from walking in there is a real serenity to the place which automatically appeals from getting off the exhaust-fume ravaged, drabness of Renshaw. The Olive Tree stock all sorts of books, cds and apparatus such as bells and dishes which I assume are necessary for assisting in meditation. There are also tonnes of oils and smelly things piled high along the walls that apparently help relieve all sorts of physical and mental ailments or just make your house smell nice. I always take the piss but to be fair I have had some pretty strange and funny experiences in this realm of things so this place is pretty damn good in its knowledge and range of items that promote a sense of well being — but after only ten minutes I really did need a piss after listening to that bloody fountain trickling away in the corner!

As you walk into The Olive Tree the scent of incense hits you pretty much full in the face, and the relaxing running water sound from the fountains fills your ears, then your eyes have to kind of re-focus to even attempt to process the sheer amount of bright colours, hanging lanterns, rug-lined walls, it’s a bit of a sensory overload. And just wait until you slope down the corridor into what is labelled ‘The Moroccan Room’. This is what I could only wish my bedroom looked like. Every surface is cushioned and I think, especially with the incense fumes, if you sat down in here, you may fall asleep for 100 years. They have a great selection of essential oils which rivals any doctors medicine cupboard and cooking spices and herbs. Also, I noticed there was a collossal amount of books on health and well-being. so if you fancy buying some peace and relaxation, I’m sure there will be something in here to sort you right out!

If you want a bit of chill out and to get away from the busy rush that we seem to live in, then the Olive Tree is the place for you. I always come out feeling a sense of relief and really relaxed. It often has really relaxing music playing and incense burning. The shop has a good selection of books on topics such as spirituality, aromatherapy, yoga, herbcraft and healing, ancient wisdom and more. They also have a cool little prayer book, where people write in something that is bothering them, for instance a relative who isn’t well and ask people who come into the shop to then prayer for their relative. Really nice. At the very back of the shop they have the Moroccan Room which as you would imagine has all things Moroccan in it. Again, totally relaxing with Moroccan recipe books, cushion’s galour and more. I also liked their selection of CD’s, candles and cards.

It might sound like a store that sells luxury olive oil and balsamic vinegar but the Olive Tree is actually a New Age boutique that stocks gifts and accessories for buddhists, spiritual practicioners and hippies. There’s a small selection of books about religion, spirituality and self awareness alongside essential oils, massage oils, candles, incense, ceramics and world music. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and there’s often ambient music playing to help customers unwind and chill out.

Renshaw Street couldn’t be a more perfect location for this shop. As a teenager I became obsessed with incense and oil burning and as a result I remain comforted by those hippy smells to this very day. So this spiritual little boutique is always worth a visit for some unusually-scented products. It doesn’t just offer jossticks and candles though. There’s a ton of arts and crafts material to choose from as well as a range of world music, books on all the major religions and ‘comparative beliefs’, loads of products on the different branches of Sufism, hand-crafted singing bowls, bath, essential and massage oils, dried herbs, ceramics; everything you can think of to find your inner calm and say ‘Namaste’. You’ll feel instantly relaxed upon entering this shop, it’s lovely and the staff are peaceful and friendly too.

I came across The Olive Tree one day by accident and when I stepped into the shop, it took me by surprise in terms of the spiritual format it was decorated in; this gave it a calm, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere which it suited as it is a shop focussed on spiritual beliefs, worship and crafts. They sell a wide range of products such as incense, books, massage oils and small gifts. There are even opportunities to try out a free massage session upon appointment and trying you hands at origami at their workshop. Flyers and information leaflets can be found which details these events at the front desk where the friendly owner will assist you.
