This shop is the original Tony Almond’s store and currently it is the single store as the larger, situated on South Road, is undergoing renovation. Soon the South Road store will be THE Tony Almonds. This store sells quite a hotch potch of stuff, from candles and photo frames to pet food and paint. While it’s organised into sections the stock isn’t really displayed very well and I find it takes a while to find things. The shop is really dark and a bit depressing to be honest. I think the prices which are invariably(59p or £1.09) reflect the quality of the merchandise to be honest, especially the stationary and the greetings cards, the toys are really cheap too. The garden section is good though, with cheap compost and garden accessories and trolleys of bedding plants and hanging baskets surrounding the entire store. Home delivery is available on such items at a charge. The staff in here are always friendly and helpful, I’ve had better experiences here than the larger store.

You can get practically anything you’ll ever need at Tony Almonds! famous in the area, unheard of to anyone outside, this shop has grown from a small, narow and dark little card shop into a local family empire. The shop is opposite Somerfield in Brighton Road, just off South Road. There is limited on street parking or you can always find a space in Somerfield’s car park. The shop sells. well, everything. Toys, games, stationary, batteries, pet food, pet accessories, lamps, mirrors, pictures, cards, wrapping paper, toiletries, hair accessories, tools, light bulbs, cleaning stuff, stepladders, crockery, glasses, party stuff, candles, christmas decorations, storage boxes, sacks of coal, plants, sweetsthe list is endless. Everything is cheap and cheerful, and we have nicknamed it the £1.09 shop, as so many of the items in the shop are, yes, £1.09. Yes, some of it is a bit tacky, but you can find some gems amongst it. Its a unique little shop and worth a half hour browse when you’re in the area. Count how many items cost £1.09, you’ll be surprised!
