If you need to buy some baldness, you could do worse than Utopia 4 Men on Smithdown. You could also do better. Months back the woman inexplicably cut my hair so I resembled one of the La’s crossed with a mushroom. Obviously, in keeping with the British phobia of causing offence at all costs, I kept shtum and ran home with a bag on my head to chew off my hair before anybody saw it. It can be a gamble, is what I’m saying. Crap joking aside, the place is actually very nice. The staff are all ludicrously friendly and in keeping with their job description, will chat about everything, anything and nothing until the cows come home, even that one who uses the clippers like she’s trying to knock you out. With its glass tables, chess set, pictures of rock star and identical staff to Braceys, you can sometimes feel like you’ve visited that old barbershop, only in the year 2035.

Utopi@ 4 men(and 4 women aparently) is a friendly salon next to the Tavern Mexican restaurant in the Penny Lane area. Closed Mondays, and not opening as late as it used to on Wednesdays and Thursdays, this place has two deep leather couches that make you feel like watching people have their har cut all day. The magazines on the coffee tables were up to date and a chess board and pieces also encourages you to stay a while. Its simply decorated with a few black and white pics on the mostly white walls. There is a Dad & Lad special for £9 which I liked the sound of and a beard trim is just £2(is this 4 men or 4 women?). Strangely the price list give the price for men, boys and OAPs but not for students although some discount is available.
