I always remember THAT time when I was walking along Oxford Street, after exiting Tottenham Court Road station, up to the 100 club and wondering how far up it was. Ooh let me just google the address to find out what number it is… but no lets not talk about that time! I would like to get married here thankyouplease. I love this place. History and rock and roll(and blues and jazz) literally seeps out of the walls, ceiling and floor here. I love the red walls, the old pictures of who has played there all around, the sticky floors, I even love the view of the pillars obscuring the view of the bands on stage when you are stood in the wrong position. They do good beer on draft nowadays too(a Camden pale ale beats a Tubourg any day in my book). Long live the 100 club.

Small and expensive. I die a little bit inside when I buy tickets to see bands I love play live and then see that the gig is going to be hosted here. The outside of 100 Club is pretty inconspicuous, so it’s easy to walk past on Oxford Street if you aren’t paying attention. The drinks are expensive — a whisky and coke will cost you the best part of £6 and the ladies’ toilets are so far away from the bar and the stage that it’s easily to miss two or three songs of band’s set if it’s really crowded when you go. The sound quality here is very good, so it has that going for it, and the central, easy to get to location is certainly a bonus, but those are genuinely the only positive things I have to say. Best avoided if you can help it, however, if you do find that a band you want to see is playing here then good luck and god speed!

Well, what can i say about the 100 Club this place just reeks of musical history, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, BB King, Sex Pistols i could go on, i’m just glad that they saved it, anyway, I went here last night to see Paul Weller, Spiritualized, Japandroids and two other bands, this was part of the Converse Represent week, now to see Paul Weller in a small venue this is a treat in it’s self, but he blew the doors off the 100 club, so so good, played a medley of his new songs then rolled back the years with some Jam classics, a night i will never ever forget.

Although the history exceeds its current legacy, I do enjoy a night at the 100. Due to the shape of the room, you can generally see very well from most vantage points. The sound is generally good too. Since the air conditioning went in, it is marginally cooler too, however the summer night that I made my recent visit on still made my friends and I «sticky». Ewww. However, by the looks of it, it is somewhat cooler than the framed photo that I always obsess over when I visit the 100 Club — Metallica playing a secret warm-up gig there in the late 1980’s. It was so full of hot thrash mayhem on that evening that the band played in their boxer shorts. Thank heavens for at least some partial air conditioning eh? Speaking of «sticky», the floor can tend to be a little drink infused around the bar area… and speaking of the bar, the prices are pretty steep for very average booze. However, all of the niggles that I have outlined can not take away from the fact that this is a LIVE music venue and that it is in the heart of the West End with great transport links. Most old West End venues have become s wanky eateries or office blocks but the 100 endures! Long may it continue.

A venue with a lot of history as all the best British bands have performed here. That said its not my favourite venue as the stage is too small and the pillars in the venue make it hard to see everything depending on where you are standing. For bands the dressing room is small and dirty. But hey don’t let that put you off-its a cool London venue and we should protect these places as many other venues like the Marquee have disappeared.

I wanted to go to the somehow famous 100 Club for some time already, but for some reason I’ve never made it there. Now, finally, I was there. Not strictly for a music event, but for some mix between poetry and music. Anyway, the venue seems really okay, just the toilets are a bit shit. It wasn’t too crowded on that Sunday evening, so it was really fine. Only the air con made it horribly cold at one point. But perhaps that’s just me, and when there are more people, I’m sure you’re grateful for a powerful air con. All in all, 100 Club seems to me to be quite a good concert venue.

An institution. It oozes with history, it has its quirks and attracts a really random crowd. But it’s a great place for a gig, especially for seeing up and coming bands. The stage is reallllly wide, and there’s a huge pillar in the middle which can be a pain, but it’s part of the charm. I think. The drinks are priced aggressively, so you wouldn’t want to pop in here for a few drinks. But if you get the opportunity, come see a band here. Only so you can say you have.

I had my reservations. Within 5 minutes of the comedy night I was there to see, a guy named Mick in the front row called the compere a dick, the compere called Mick an expletive I will not repeat and then a guy next to Mick threw up on his shoes. It was at this point I thought«My boyfriend takes me to all the classiest places!» It was, as it turns out, a fantastic evening(to be honest I had a feeling it might be after the above but I’m pretending I thought it was dreadful to appear more mature than I actually am). There were four comedians, the last of which was Milton Jones who never fails to make me chuckle. The bar is dark, dingy and sticky, the drinks are overpriced and if you’re there for a seated gig, such as a comedy night, be sure to get in there quickly to grab a seat as we had to stand all evening and when you’re wearing heels this is no fun and you spend the whole time shifting from one foot to the other(you know what I mean, girls!) Still, despite all these things I had a brilliant vodka-infused evening of laughs and decided that I need to come back for a bit of live music. This is a fabulous venue space that took me back to my student days, and it’s handily located right on Oxford Street — who knew?!

Fantastic London venue for seeing great live music! It’s a London institution, what more can I say? Recommend for sure if you are in London– can’t find it anywhere else!

I went here for Monday swing night. I was sorely disappointed in the band, because I thought, what better way to jump and jive then to live music? But they played a lot of slow stuff and just were generally not that great. The venue is pretty cool though, dodgy, divey, stinky and sweaty(well, the stinky and sweaty part was not cool — it’s the 21st century, ACIS cool) but it’s just got history in its veins and you can sort of feel that. I also thought 11 quid for a pretty unknown band on a Monday night was steep. I hate paying steep prices for mediocre music and moods.

A London icon that has hosted the most famous of bands, and continues to book great acts, the 100 Club is well worth a visit. There are all kinds of theme nights with lots of dancing — a friend of mine regularly goes there to Lindy. Sometimes there are even lessons if you show up early enough. Nowadays the music tends towards jazz and swing. The drinks and the venue do the job, but aren’t especially memorable. Come for the music, stay for the dancing.

Easy to walk past in amongst the general hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, the distinctive red awning of the 100 Club marks a legendary venue. I’ve been here for some jazz performances but on the walls, you’ll find tributes to other artists who have performed there like BB King and the Stones. If I catch lung cancer despite never having smoked, it could possibly be related to the smoke I inhaled at this venue — the small basement venue used to be heavy with smoke until the smoking ban recently. Worth a look for an off the beaten path music venue

I use to live in London burbs and itäs too bad I didnt find this place sooner. I found it towards the end and now everytime I visit London I go to this club. Very low key, down to earth, not as swanky as it can be but pretty chic. The dance floor is a perfect size and they do offer good vodka drinks.

Dingy? Yes. Cramped. Yes. Fabulous music and the best way to spend a Sunday evening? YES! There is nothing special about this place. it’s a grotty dive bar and has a really horrid smell. But it’s fantastic. It’s like a dirty little music secret. I saw The Duke Spirit with fellow Qyper Timinator last night and boy did we see a good show. The 100 Club does no frills music. You come here to see the bands, not to pose and look fabulous like people insist on doing in other venues. And let’s face it, standing six foot away from one of your favourite bands is a great way to spend Sunday evening. I’m impressed with my first visit to this place. The sound check guy was a bit annoying — guitar solos aren’t really necessary for a sound check now are they? But, he had his moment on stage and he made the most of it. It’s possible his girlfriend might have come along just to see him play. Still, he made us giggle. I’m going to be spending a lot more time here in 2009. It’s a fantastic place and I’m in the mood to find more new music to make my ears happy.

There isn’t really another venue like this in London. The 100 Club of Oxford Street has been entertaining punters since the mid-40s and its popularity shows no sign of waning in the new millenium. Over the years this legendary basement has played host to some of the most talented and innovative artists of the 20th century including BB King, The Clash and The Rolling Stones. This array of talent is testament to the innovative quality of 100 and the perpetual desire to be at the forefront of musical innovation. The venue itself has heaps of character and its battered rather tatty looking interior simply makes the place feel more homely and amiable. The crowd come predominantly for the history of the place so there’s a nice blend of tourists, students and a few regulars. Drinks are unfortunately fairly expensive and the quality is not the best but this is quite honestly the sort of venue you can go to and not be to bothered about drinking. In an era of plastic and fakery, where fashion over function is practically a fundamental truth, it’s comforting to know that there are places like 100 club that still burn a flame for good ol’ fashioned, no-frills musical entertainment.

Nestled in a basement at 100 Oxford Street(well, where did you think it got its name from) is an unassuming little live music venue, with a couple of bars, and fairly scuzzy loos. That doesn’t sound a very good review, does it? The 100 club is redeemed however, by its intimacy and the quality of music and acts it attracts. Admittedly, I’m a folk music fan, and the 100 Club is ideal for people like me. With acts ranging from folk to blues to bluegrass and everything in between, you can’t really go wrong. I’ve seen Fairport Convention and The Dylan Project there. It’s a cosy, intimate venue. You can sit(or stand) right up to the stage, and there is no back stage to speak of, so the band members are drinking in the same bar as you are, and using the same facilities you do. It should be noted that in one gig I attended, there were some very noisy and talkative folk at the bar, who seemed to forget that some of us paid good money to see Fairport, not to hear about their day at the office. The bar isn’t bad — there is a good selection of wines, and a decent selection of real ales. Tickets for the gigs I visit are between £17 — £18 — a bit pricey, perhaps, for what may be seen as a fringe band, but with good acoustics, decent bar, and splendid atmosphere, if you like the music on offer, it’s worth every penny.

This place needs to invest in some air conditioning. melting atmosphere and not even high summer yet. Staff are friendly though. The stamp on hand for passout(to go out and get some air before you literally pass out) seems not to scrub off but does transfer to the face and other skin.

On its own, the small basement room that is the 100 Club would get 2 stars. It’s like a multipurpose room at a school or hotel, just chairs and tables, a low stage, with pillars blocking the view. The toilets are dingy and cramped. It’s not a good-looking room in any way. But they get some of the best music here. It’s a legend, really, and many of the old posters on the walls show this. From rock to punk, many of the greats have wedged themselves onto the tiny stage. I saw an awesome performance from Roy Harper here, as well as good ones from newer acts like Scotland’s Sons & Daughters and Silversun Pickups.
