I am so grateful for the existence of 193 Whitecross Street and Elizabeth Rimmer! 2 months to go until my wedding, and I had had a pesky red rash with bumps and little whiteheads around my mouth for about 6 months. After two visits to my GP(seeing different doctors each time) I had come back with 2 completely different diagnosis(neither of which were perioral dermatitis, which was what I thought I had having self-diagnosed myself through Dr. Google) and treatment suggestions, one of which made my skin peel like a snake while the other made no difference! In addition to this, I had tested out a number of home remedies for perioral dermatitis like cutting out makeup, apple cider vinegar, essential oils, cutting out all products with SLS, parabens, perfume — nothing had helped! I was at my wits end when I came across Elizabeth through a friend. I had not realised what her speciality was, just that 193 Whitecross may be able to help. I would try anything! I booked an appointment and showed up at the clinic late on a Friday night to meet Elizabeth who turned out to be a very calm, well-presented professional. Despite probably having had a long week, she spent a lot of time hearing about my symptoms, what treatment options I had tried, my reaction to those, medical history — before inspecting my skin close up under the light. Diagnosis: perioral dermatitis(finally) with rosacea and eczema. She prescribed me some pimecrolimus cream, as well as a very mild cleanser and face cream duo with active ingredients for super sensitive skin. I also got a SPF50 gel from Heliocare for an upcoming holiday as apparently sunlight can worsen my condition. It’s now been a week of using the three regular products(as I work in an office and don’t see daylight I did not need the SPF yet) and my skin has now been completely clear for 3 – 4 days!!! It’s incredible! What’s more — I always used to have greasy skin with 2 – 3 spots at any point in time but for the last week I haven’t had one! THANKYOUELIZABETH!

My skin. Ugh. Before I had a baby, my skin was pretty lowkey. Not much to speak of. I had a normal routine that was very low maintenance. Then I had a baby, and a few months later the hormones continued to wreak havoc on my face. Like a teenager going through puberty, I just didn’t even want to leave my house. I needed some professionals… Enter 193 Whitecross Street. A beautiful new skin and holistic health clinic on Whitecross Street near Old Street. Beautiful, bright open windows beckoned me on my way over to Waitrose and I was setup with an appointment for the weekend. Without much consultation I was booked in for a microderm + light therapy. There is a £30 deposit upon booking for all appointments, payable by credit card. I have to say, I get why they do this, but as a customer I hate it. I know it’s to protect them from when people no show. It still annoys me just a bit. But of course not enough not to go. However, I do believe once you’ve shown to be a person that shows up they should be able to know this and NOT require a deposit for regular clients. I showed up at the appointed time, was shown to a room and a quick consult followed by the microderm(like a 17 layer scrub) and then taken down to the light room for 20 minutes of meditation(read: sleeping) while the light does its thing. Everything was lovely, Elizabeth is a very experienced and competent practitioner. I would’ve liked a bit more discussion on what I could do long term to address my newfound skin problems, but didn’t quite get that involved. Perhaps why I never went back. I appreciated not being sold on a bunch of products but I did want a bit more investment for the £80 price tag. I’d definitely go back, particularly for the light treatments which can be really great in the sunless winter months and to zap any bacteria that are wreaking havoc. It’s a gorgeous clinic with a lot going on in terms of offerings, so worth checking out if this is what you are seeking. Skin treatments include: *medical aesthetics *treatment of skin conditions *semi permanent makeup. Holistic health services include: *psychology *colonic hydration *physiotherapy *acupuncture.
