i discovered this place a couple of weeks ago and have been 3 times already! the staff are amazing and the food is to die for, not to mention the amazing cocktails! It is now my favourite restaurant and a place that will see me often!

A great little place in Hornchurch! Was very surprised with the quality of food and the deco of the place! The music was also great they had a dj playing in the bar on a Friday night! I will be going back there for sure!

Great food well presented. I really enjoyed their new concept of dinning. A mumber of extremely well presented original dishes presented in a tapas like fashion.
The reason for four stars is because of thumping music in the bar below. Even still, Bar 44 will definitely see a return visit from me.

Absolutely delicious food in an unexpected area, this newly opened gem of a place had my mouth watering as I read the menu, and my eyes widening as each plate came out.
The concept is simple at 44, a funky bar-​restaurant in Hornchurch — and well worth a detour if you’re out that way. Dress up or dress down, but don’t eat very much before you go, because a fabulous array of contemporary cooking awaits, once you are led upstairs past the giant chandelier.
The 22 different tasting plates are matched to 22 different cocktails, made with flair by the bar downstairs. I was driving that evening, so instead enjoyed some stunning non-​alcoholic alternatives tailor-​made to my tropical tastes.
And the food… miso-​glazed mackerel was a winner, as was the star of the show, the marinated monkfish, deep fried in batter and served with chips. The meat-​eaters commented on how tender the steak was, and I also shovelled in a chocolate orange mousse, obviously in the interests of research.
I’ll definitely return to this place, especially as the menu will be changed around every 3 months to keep both the diners (and the excellent kitchen) on their toes!
