Nice warm environment inside and quite a few tables outside that’d be great for the summer. However whilst the menu sounded awesome it was very disappointing. Some items marked as vegetarian were very questionablely so. The burgers were very poor and dry with probably frozen patties. The fish in fish and chips were not fresh. My steak and kidney pie was a slice of pie with gelatinous skin on the side, which meant it was probably heated from frozen slices. The price was not too bad they had 2 courses day menu for £6.95 and my starter beer battered mushroom weren’t too bad, with a few salad leaves on the side. A few of us upgraded our fries to lattice fries for 95p and they weren’t too bad. Their normal fries seemed fine too. Service was a bit slow waiting for condiments to be brought out, we went and got them in the end. Food are definitely not recommended here, maybe just go for fries with your beers here.

This establishment is more like a restaurant with a bar than a pub. The menu is quite large and it changes pretty frequently, same goes with the layout. I come here almost every Saturday afternoon with my housemates. They never want to go anywhere else, so I strive to try something different each time. I’ve found the best way to create a satisfying meal with variety is by ordering the«light snacks» with a side. You can never go wrong with the small gammon with pineapple or egg, and coleslaw on the side, though they do use a bit too much mayo. The fish and chips plate is very elegantly arranged; the most posh fish and chips I’ve ever encountered. Aside from my routine Saturday visits, I’ve been here in the evening to enjoy wine with friends. The comfy couches make you feel more like you’re in a sitting room. There are even fireplaces. I think that’s what this place strives for actually, to be like a home in the country. Perfect refuge from the rainy London climate, but if you’re looking for a loud, gritty pub where you can be drunk and belt out rugby songs with your mates, take a 15 minute walk to the Bricklayers Arms.
