I’m probably one of the only people to come here and not see STOMP. Something else was on tonight. I didn’t realise how small this theatre is, considering its in the west end. Felt really cosy and intimate.

If you’ve never clinked, banged, or beat any objects together out of boredom to make a noise and had no idea that you could make some kind of rhythm, you’ll be as fascinated as a simpleton who just learned to tie his shoes for the first time. I only went to see STOMP coz my old lady dragged me here. I told her I’d just fall asleep. It turned out she passed out before me. I’ve seen crack heads in Washington DC play plastic paint drums on the street for change who were far more entertaining.

STOMP– A good show with amazingly energetic dancers(they earn their money!) and some excellent percussion. The bill for new hardware/metalware must be pretty high as they bash the hell out of many household objects in every show, and I love the creativity they show in identifying new objects that could double as percussion instruments. I found my attention wandering however. If like me you used to buy the statutory rock band double live LPs and always got bored with the 15 minute drum solos, then you’ll understand why your interest may wane after 1hour and 40 minutes. Theatre also very run down which is a shame– if this is the New Ambassadors I don’t want to see the old one. Glad I have been to the show though.

After years of waiting, I finally got to see STOMP live. The show was invigorating, enlivening, rhythmic and infectious. It was exactly what I was expecting. Everyday materials, buckets, brooms, rubber pipes and lighters to name a few, became complex musical instruments. The show starts with a street sweeper lackadaisically starting his shift. He suddenly realises his broom does more than sweep dirt, it also scratches the ground creating a «swoosh» sound. A couple more swooshes and a beat is created. A couple of fellow cleaners appear with their own brooms. Suddenly, a few sweeping movements creates a musical movement, and so the show takes off. The show has humour, synchronised choreography and pitch-perfect beats. I would say that it lacks a story line. At several points during the show, the performers themselves mock at how long people can sit and listen to beats created from tools. That being said, the show is not one to miss. It is unlike any other performance, and its basic rawness of musicality strikes a chord with our creative soul. I was less impressed with The New Ambassadors Theatre. The seats were small, too close together and oddly tilted forward. And if you go, do not get tickets in the«circle» section. I actually missed some of the show because the seats were higher than the top part of the stage space, so I could only see the bottom half of the action when the performers climbed almost to the rafters. I bought discount tickets advertised in Metro earlier in the month. I hope I can find other discount tickets, because overall it was a great experience.

The theatre is very tiny and there’s no wheelchair access to any part of the theatre as there’s about 6 steps up to the circle and loads more down to the stalls. We went last Saturday to see Stomp which was excellent I must add everyone should see it so much fun. Anyhow although the theatre is not disabled friendly the staff were very helpful and even asked the theatre next door if I could use their disabled adapted loo as the Ambassador does not have one which is a shame. Anyhow the theatre next door obliged so I didn’t have an accident lol. All in all I think the staff were very helpful and they evey moved our seats to a more accessible row with more leg room but I still had to leave my wheelchair in the foyer and be manhandled up the stairs, not a pleasant experience.

I went there with two friends visiting me. We got hold of some student tickets at the same day, which we bought at one of those small offices around Leicester Square. Stomp has no words, there is no story or signing — only pure rhythm. An ecstatic performance of drums and simple instruments such as building materials and cans where a group of people create an ever exploding crescendo. This performance is modern and has no melody, so it doesn’t matter if your music taste is jazz, classical, dance or pop, you get dragged into a world of beats. On a personal note, my friend was so exhausted of London life that she fell asleep — something I still can not explain — Stomp is the loudest and most powerful performance! I believe Stomp is fun for boys and girls with lots of energy who like to play the drums and want to play in a band when they grow up.

If you want a nice night out, fun for all the family then go and see Stomp at the Ambassadors Theatre. The theatre its self is shamefully not the most well kept theatres in the west end. Which is such a shame because it is such a wonderful little theatre — just holding over 400 people it has a amazing friendly intermit feel to it. The staff are friendly and helpful. Also the great thing about Stomp playing at the theatre is that there is not a show on a Tuesday or Wednesday night, which means if you are looking for a venue in the west end to put on a one night event then this is a great place.

Stomp is an amazing creation of a million layers of rhythm, percussion, complicated timing, amazing raw sets and props and way more than just tap dancing. These dancers are also athletes in this very long and vigirous performance, and amazing artists with their grasp of intricate beats and sounds made by their bodies and random objects. I am a huge fan of tap dancing, and was extremely keen to see this show, but was literally blown away. There was audience interaction and humour within the script despite there being no talking or singing(somebody sign me up now!) and throughout the entire performance I was on the edge of my seat wishing I was on stage. It is quite a long performance, but I was kept interested throughout as they came up with such amazing concepts and ways to produce sound out of ordinary objects. The end is a climax as they hang from the ceiling and still tap in mid air. Brilliant. Then again, I love this dance form, but Stomp certainly impressed me!

I wasn’t too sure about going to see Stomp, it seems to have the words ‘royal variety performance’ stamped all over it to give me any enjoyment, but going to see it I was pleasantly surprised. Recently moved to the Ambassadors Theatre after a long run, it seems to work well in this small theatre although I imagine their acrobatics and physical movements have been restricted a little. The Ambassadors theatre is small, very small, but at least you will always have a view of the stage. We were on the 4th row of the stalls, if you can get further back do because the view from there cut off their feet. The way the use their simple instruments, even just their bodies, is amazing and made for a really good, but different show. At 1 hour 40 minutes without an interval the show is at the right length I think. Enough to get into it and enjoy it, but any longer it may have become repetitive. I would definitely recommend this how to anyone who wasn’t too concerned about amazing light shows /sets /special effects /storyline in their west end show, as this is simply a pared down show of skill with some elements of comedy.
