SERVESONLYHALALMEAT! Had I known I would have avoided like the plague as I deplore this cruel method of slaughter. It’s not listed as such on here or open table. Neither does it say on the door or window or anywhere else in the restaurant. It doesn’t even say on the menu either. I didn’t find out until the waitress casually dropped it into the conversation while ordering. It should at least say so on the menu. The borscht was greasy with chunks of meat. Even though I told her I could not eat halal meat she still took my my order for borscht(I thought it was beetroot soup!) without telling me it had meat in it. The other food that arrived looked pretty unappetising too, although the cheese bread was nice. And all of this was accompanied by awful, eastern sounding shouty«music» playing really loudly

My daily work lunches don’t tend to be more than 6 pounds. The better dishes at Assorti are all above that amount, I believe. I had a take-away Ukrainian Borsch and, it might be my Indian taste buds, but they weren’t best pleased at the resulting soup and the unfulfilled stomach. This is not for you if, like me, you were looking for a filling and fairly cheap lunch. Also, the restaurant was closed at 2.30 pm, when I reached and had to step into the kitchen(which is the door next to the restaurant and was open) where they were nice enough to take my order. The 2 stars are for being interesting — which all the USSR era posters on the wall.

We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Really good homemade Russian dishes. So far we tried the Lagmen(homemade noodles) and the stuffed sweet peppers, both were very good. They carry good Russian beer(Baltika 5) and great French wine. The prices are reasonable and service is friendly. We will be back to try the dumplings.

Tasty, cheap, filling food that’s a little different. Loved the Ukrainian borsch, stuffed peppers and sweet Georgian red wine — delicious! The staff that served us were friendly and very helpful. We were the only people there on the Saturday evening we visited, although a couple of people turned up to collect some takeaway. I guess it’s a little hidden and out of the way, but also their website doesn’t make it clear that you can eat in at all, it makes it sound like just a takeaway joint. Maybe they do quite well from the takeaway side of the business — I hope so because they deserve to. Give it a try!

came saw ate left. uneventful but a nice little restaurant for russian/central asian takeaway. i think if you like russian/central asian food, you’ll love this place and rate it really well. for our part, we felt like it was really good for what it is(huge portions, quality ingredients) but the flavor and spice aren’t to our personal taste. i would highly encourage the restauranteur to consider a bit of creative liberties in designing the menu — beef salad on a bed of greens or even on a roll, a bit of greens or bread/tofu to soften up the meaty manty, etc. totally worth a try if you’re looking for russian/central asian food.
