Been here 3 times. Never will again. Asked for Chicken Madras(with no Coriander), & Naan bread. It was all Chicken and hardly any Madras! Half the Naan was wasted because of this! Taste was average too. And it had Coriander despite me asking for no Coriander. Second visit was the same. Third visit made me very angry. I walked in and was just about to make my order when the phone rang and I had to wait for them to take an order over the the phone. When that was done, the phone rang again and I was expected to wait again. I said forget it, I’ll go somewhere else. Very bad service. Never going back.

I have heard great things about babur and was very happy it is so close. My order: veg dhansak, veg madras, pea pulua, onion bhaji and lamb byiriani(for 3 people) On the phone: I called around 8pm and the guy who took my order asked at the end if I wanted pompadoms, I was hoping these would be thrown in for free but no bother. He said it would take 1hour, which surprised me as veg dishes are usually pretty quick. But I dismissed this with an anticipation of the quality of the food and preparation. The delivery: anticipation and hunger seemed longer than 1hour but have to say this was accurate and came at 9ish. However, this is where the experience went wrongthe delivery guy didn’t ring the doorbell, I heard a faint tapping on my bedroom window. When I answered the door he was on his mobile having a shouting match on the phone, it was getting rather heated so I just gave him the money and he shoved the takeaway bag at me, quite unpleasant. The food: oil was seeping all around the bag, due to what I can only assume was the rough manner they were handled by the delivery guy. This was the first clue, the food was tasty but the layers or oil on everything was excessive. Even the rice was greasy. Too much ghee and poor presentation. I couldn’t finish the food as it was starting to make all three of us feel rather sick and we threw half the food away. Other reviews make me want to risk again, but I think I will stick to good Indians takeouts I know and love, not Babur.

The first time i ordered from here the food was the great, the second time, not so much. First time we got the mixed grill, the Mutter Paneer, Bombay Aloo and Peshawari Nan. Every single thing we ordered was outstanding. Second time it took over an hour and a half for delivery, they sent us two of the wrong things and one thing we ordered never showed up. The chicken was really dry and the unfresh and the food really wasn’t up the the standard of the first time. I’d have given it 5 stars if the food was consistently good but i was so disappointed by the second visit i don’t think I’ll be ordering from here again.

i have eaten at Babur restaurant many times and loved it, so thought i would try the take away one night. i was very disappointed. we waited 1 hr and 25 mins for delivery. after 1 hour we called the shop to be told the driver has set of. we only live a 5 mins walk from the shop so after 10 mins we called again to be told the driver had just set off(again) to which we were told the driver sets off with multiple orders and there is nothing they can do. the food when it finally arrived was tasty but cold. i can imagine it would have been a 5* take away of it had arrived within the 45 mins they said it would have and it had been hot. after eating at the restaurant and being used to such high standards the take away left me nothing but disappointed.

Babur is the best Indian Restaurant I have been to in London. Babur named ‘London’s best inexpensive restaurant’ — Harden’s 2009. The restaurant has a lovely ambience created by wood panels with huge cut outs behind which recessed lighting hides, pretty stylish as well. The art work is apparently called Kalamkari and is a form of Sanskrit which is very traditional this all manages to blend in with wonderful effect. The a la carte menu is made up of customer favourites with the lovely touch of monthly changing specials. Sunday has a lunch buffet which is apparently a great way to enjoy the afternoon. Regular food festivals occur in the restaurant including, strangely enough Burns night, and these are famous in their part of London. The best by far for my agenda is the home-delivery service on their entire restaurant menu. A la carte at home or to impress the visitors ;-) They do have a seperate take away menu as well and apologise in advance for delivery times as everything is cooked from scratch. A rather impressive wine list with a broad choice and mmmm ! cocktails that are subtle and refreshing. A little piece on pricing from their menu: Since opening in 1985, Babur has always had a sensible pricing policy on food and wine. We believe people appreciate value for money and we would rather stay in business than make a quick profit. This is a very more’ish experience in Indian cuisine.

Babur is probably the best Indian takeaway I’ve ever had. Distinctive recipes as well as all the usual, all of excellent reliable quality, at reasonable prices. Try out Sukka Kari, lamb with cashew nuts. Expect a wait of 40 minutes or so for delivery.
