Belgo came to the rescue of a pack of hungry Unilocalers on the prowl for food after the Unilocal Elite event down the road at Gigalum. As it was after 10.30pm, we were turned down by restaurant after restaurant when they learned that we needed a table for 12 So, a big hand for Belgo who took us in without any problems. I think they must have placed us in the special party room as the other group there were obviously a lot more sozzled than we were and making the racket to prove it! Although Belgo is famous for their Belgian moules(mussels), which are available in a variety of styles, I eschewed these for pork belly. Yup, can’t resist a bit of pork belly with crackling I was pleased with my dish — crispy crackling atop a moist piece of pork. Unfortunately, some of the other dishes I tasted courtesy of my fellow diners weren’t as good as mine. Perhaps the kitchen was getting a little weary at the end of the evening However, for relaxed service despite the lateness of the hour ie no death glares and looking at watches and for actually seating our group, it’s got to be 4 stars

I’ve been to almost every Belgo in London… needless to say, I’m a big fan. However, this location didn’t seem to offer the quality of food as the others. They did; however, happily accommodate 12 of us late at night so therefore I will give 3 stars. For those who have never been to a Belgo and went to this particular one first, please try one of the other locations please.

So after the Unilocal event last night a big group of us decided to go and get a meal… out first destination refused our group of 12… and we made it to BELGO. They seated us RIGHT away and we had time to go over the menu and since Yee Gan O. and some others had been there before they told me I should go and order the mussels because that’s their speciality. With their suggestion… i ordered the one of the«moules kilo pots» in the Traditionelle flavor — white wine, celery, garlic and onion. Others ordered crisp pork belly and the wild mushroom, herb & cream rotisserie chicken. The ambiance was great… lots of space and plenty of seating… BUT i was NOT impressed with how rowdy this table across from us was. THEWHOLENIGHT we were stuck near a group of loud cackling people… NOTFUN. Another thing I was NOT impressed with was how long it took for our food to come… ITTOOKFOREVER. The food though… was good. If their service gets better… I would definitely go back.

Please read this review with a side of mayo. We were travelling large at 12 people and needed a late night spot. The Mexican eatery next door that we were hearing too turned us away and we found ourselves in Belgo. I had never been here before actually so had no idea what to expert. It’s a large Belgium themed chain with an epic beer list and a focus on seafood(specifically mussels with frites.) But there was something I could not resist: the crab, lobster and prawn burger. Oh my yes, on soft sour dough bread? Bring it on! Take it back! My god, what was this monstrosity. The burger patty was awful, it tasted like poor seafood and it fell apart as soon as I picked it up. The bread was equally unstable and was mushy in my hands. The whole damn thing was a mess. But what made it worse was that it was covered in mayo. Now, when I say covered, I mean slathered, dripping out of the side, on both the top and bottom bun, And then it came with a side of mayo, in case you needed more. Disgusting. And the fries that they are known for felt like they were defrosted from a bag and served in a white bowl. Oh, and it also came with a side of mayo. The service was OK and they did put up with us being a loud group of 12 people, which is the only reason they’re getting two stars. But holy hell that was terrible.

Mussels were tasteless, service very slow, very bad when compared to the experience I had in Belgo in Covent Garden. Not going back.

A friend of mine who lives nearby took me to Belgo Clapham. The king prawns were cooked well and waitress matched my beer to the food. They have some nice variety of Belgium beers, but also unusual ones like those with coconut and banana flavour. Service was not excellent, though. The waitress looked kind of sleepy and we waited 20 minutes for her to get our orders. But I would come back another time, hope she’ s well rested :)

Standard fast food-ish mussels and fries as expected from a Belgo. Service was poor on a Friday evening they clearly need alot more staff. Plus the tables are too cramped together, and coupled with an echoey room, made for some very uncomfortable and noisy dining. The horror shoe continues with a 12.5% service charge on the bill, which is exorbitant for the service level you get. Good gets 3 stars. But everything else brings the overall rating down to 2 stars And possibly 1 star.

Came here for the first time tonight. The place was pretty good. Walked right in but was stopped by the guard to get carded just to sit and eat. I guess because there was alcohol involved. We ordered mussels, and some starters. The food was pretty good, a bit pricey I think… but then again, London is a lot more pricey than LA. Their flavored beer was pretty good. It made drinking beer a little more pleasant. We also ordered dessert which was really delicious! I think that’s what won me over. The waffle is so yummy! I would have given this place 4 stars but the service here was just wayyy tooo slow! I would definitely come here again for the mussels!

Love the Belgo near Covent Garden but this was a terrible experience. Got there and nobody acknowledged us for three minutes until a bar tender said«Oh go through to the restaurant.» We did and waited… another three minutes for the one waiter working to come over and gesture at some seats. Then we waited. And waited. And waited ten minutes whilst the waiter sailed past us over four times on the way to and from other tables, he also paused to have a shouting match with the chef over some fries. We then got bored and left to go to a different restaurant where there was a chance of getting served. Sort it out Belgo.

In the past, Belgo has been a rather ‘meh’ experience for me. I had been to a few of their outlets across the capital and had yet to be impressed. Today I was won over. I chose the Spit Roast(that phrase always makes me think of Premiership footballers and girls of loose morals) Chicken with chili and ginger sauce, served with chips and a salad. It really impressed me with it’s bountiful quantity and tasty succulence. My only criticisms were that the breast was dry and the sauce a little overbearing(it tasted rather mass produced). However, it really was tasty and I am looking forward to an excuse to return! The décor was well thought out, but the atmosphere had a little too much clatter to the soundtrack. The service was slow, and at times, nonexistent. I will return for more of the same when I get the chance. Hopefully the next time the service will make it a 5 Star to Unilocal about.

Very nice place with friendly staff and a welcome express lunch menu. Service was speedy and helpful and a beef dish I had was very tasty, even if the sauce was a little fatty. Geared for taste rather than health!

Totally decent food; feels a little chain-y. For £12 you get a kg of mussels with a teensy bowl of indifferent frites. Indifferent service. No bread. Which makes you look like quite the wanker when you go to drink down the juice. Decent beer & wine list, but nothing special. But all in all, not a bad place to go.

This is the oft overlooked belgian highlight of the Clapham. Yeah ok, you’ve got me, there isn’t really another Belgian place for miles, and yeah it’s a chain. But I like it ok?! What I like most is that I can get a great range of tasty and fruity beers just round the corner from my digs. They’re not the cheapest, no, so I see it as more of a treat or perhaps the place for some cheeky early beers at the start of a night out. The food is just as good as you’ll find at the other Belgos in Central London and it’s on the doorstep if this is your hood. Seriously… the thai moules frites should be criminal. They’re that good.

I just live down the road from this place and I have to say, this is the place to go when you want a decent, cheap mussel-fries along with a wide range of beers to chose from! The portions are large, the quality of the food is good value for money, and I love the fact that if I arrive a 6.45pm, then I’ll pay my mussels £6.45! They also have a loyalty card and the staff has always been super friendly. True, the place is a bit loud and look more like a stylish canteen than a restaurant. Clearly, this is not the place for a romantic dinner but definitely the best place to catch up with friends!

I would have to say this is my go to place to grab a drink on clapham. I know they do really good food, but as I have never had time, this will be a review in half. Belgo is a specialty beer bar, mainly brews from Belgium, and I love it. I love trying new beers and feeling my mouth turn inside out and my toes curl up on response to their new high alcohol wheat beer, which tastes like a mixture of cough syrup and aged cheese. Prices are pretty good for clapham, and ussualif you’re eagle eyed enough, you won’t have to wait long for a seat

I was taken to this place when I visited Clapham. It was a fun bar. I tried a couple of flavours of beers, they came in all shapes and sizes but really enjoyed the strawberry flavour. There were booths to sit down in, but the place was packed when I went. Only thing was outside looked a bit crushed with people queuing to get in and the smokers. Otherwise reasonably quick to get served. Best bet is tro travel by tube there are no car parks.

Great place to sample a selection of Belgian beers, maybe a little pricey, but they must stock in excess of 50 beers. They also have offers which allow you to try a range of different beers for a discount. I usually choose this place for a quiet beer to chat with friends during the week or early at a weekend. From memory they don’t show sport or play loud music — it’s a good place to catch up with whoever is sat opposite you.

Tanke a pew and work your way through all the fancy beers on offer. Yum! I would be careful of the mussels though, notorious as they are I always hope for the best but unfortunately didn;t get it the last time I went here. Which is probably why that was the last time I went here Great in the summer, sit outside and soak up the rays with a fine beer in hand and nibble on some frites, minus the moules
