I’m sat in the downstairs enjoying a couple of beers under the guise of a «client meeting» and I must say it’s rather nice. We’re on our 3rd Belgium beer and all its lovely. Please note I feel a little pissed while writing so apologies for the potential grammar or spelling errors in advance. We haven’t ordered any food on this occasion but I have eaten here quite a few times before and the food is very good. I always opt for the mussels and chips but everything else does look good. This place does get buzzy of an evening especially at the weekends and I’ve always thought this place as a nice alternative in camden. I’ve been told by friends that they also do a yard of ale here but I don’t think it’s a good look at a meeting so won’t ask right now to confirm.

Excellent service and good food. I had the chili lime chicken which was yummy, three person I was with had the streak which I would choose next time. The lobster looked awesome but neither of us are fans. Great selection of beer. I had a kwak which comes in a round flask on a wooden stand and is delicious. Going to go again, excellent for dates and mates alike.

Once you’ve finally decided which beer to try you then need to choose what it’s going to wash down. Belgo is famous for it’s moules and there are a lot of versions to choose from. Kilo pots, platters or bowls. Marinière, Thai, deep fried in Japanese breadcrumbs, in a rich lobster, Champagne and cream bisque and so on. They also have five types of rotisserie chicken(£10.95), basted in Belgo’s secret spices, which Zoe and I both went for. Zoe had her’s with roast tomato, chorizo & herbs and I had the sticky chilli & ginger version. James had a big fancy lunch so, out of character, he opted for a salad of Confit Duck, soft boiled egg, smoked lardons and black pudding with giant croutons and Mark ordered the Pork Belly with Belgo apple sauce, buttered spinach and stoemp mash. Antonia turned up late and ordered the smaller version of James’s salad, some frites and Gruyère croquettes, served with Belgo beer relish. As well as a couple of beers we splashed out a Schnapps shot stick, which you can see hanging behind the bar in various sizes from a 4 shot stick to one capable of holding 32, working out to about £2 a shot. We ordered the 24 shot stick, which was too long for our table! The sticks come with a range of flavours, apple, peach, cranberry, cherry and something orange that was disgusting!

Admittedly here using a TimeOut offer which was a reason £10 for a kilo bucket of moules, fries and a beer. We were having a quick bite before the Roundhouse, which is conveniently just across the road from Belgo. I never know what the balance of food and service is, but first impressions count right? I guess having a printed out voucher on an already swamped evening with a queue of customers, isn’t really a yay situation for the manager. However, the welcome was err not welcomed. When booking, I was reminded that it is 1 bucket, 1 fries and 1 drink. I was aware of this, thank you. Fine print is my forte. At the venue, I was again reminded, and the waiters(dressed as monks?) buzzed around us confused about if we knew about the fine print. Finally we put our order through, my guest orders an extra fries and a beer. We went for the traditionelle kilo moule which consists white wine, celery, garlic and onion. The mussels were cooked well, and the sauce was how I. The chips lacked the crispiness in bite that Belgian double cooked ones should have. The beer selection looked good, and yes I will be back in the future, but not that branch. Service really lacked, especially as I had booked early in advance, let them know it was the deal voucher that I would be redeeming. Mussels do not take long to cook. I had let them know on the phone, in person and during the ordering that there was show we were going to see, albeit it across the road. I hate to rush a meal — I like to take my time, savour the flavours, sip my drink and chat… So food wise, I may visit another branch and give them a second chance. but with this branch, beware of the peak times, even if it is a weekday, the service is lacking. Wonder if anyone can solve the monk-like waiters mystery for me?

*Disclaimer: This review is based solely on the«Express Lunch» special Solid place for dine-in lunch, on-the-go. As a London chain of Belgian restaurants, they run a lunch special for 7.95 pounds, which includes half pint of Belgo Pils(or glass of wine, or soft drink), a main dish and side(I got traditional mussels with frites.) This was a very generous portion of food, although not exactly stand-out material. Also ordered half pint of Belgo’s Leffe Blonde — sweet and smooth as expected — both easy to drink.

The most gorgeous juicy perfect mussels and excellent selection of beers. I have been going to Belgo in Chalk farm since the 90s and it is so impressive that they maintain the standard in all these years! Perfect lunch while in Camden!

I had a great meal previously at Belgo Centraal, so I knew what I was in for when I passed by this place during a stroll through Camden. So glad we came for lunch! They were pretty dead quiet for lunch on a weekday, which was a little awkward, but the food was worth it so we didn’t mind. Belgo always has great deals, and their Express Lunch is no exception — £7.95 for a main, and a drink(soft drink, small glass of wine, or half pint). ½ kilo of Provençal mussels later, and I was a very happy camper. They are just so good! The broth was lovely and filled with juicy tomatoes and garlicky herb flavor. The frites were absolutely addictive, long after I got full I couldn’t stop picking at them(no need for mayo, they are so hot and crispy and lovely that they need no help). Service was a bit slow and the atmosphere was quiet for lunch, but for such a low price, this has to be one of the best lunch deals in the area! I would come back anytime!

Belgo never fails to impress me. They have such a great selection of menu to suit everybody and at such a reasonable price. Of course you can’t miss the fact that they have over 50 types of beer to choose from. My favourite is always the peach beer. You can almost always get a table. I tried to book on a Saturday many times and managed to get a table for peak dinner times. Despite service has always been up to standard. This timeI was treated rudely by a particular staff. I assume he was in a managerial position as he wasn’t wearing uniform. We waited over 30 minutes for our main course and when I asked him politely to check my order. He replied«it will be ready when its cooked» and walked away. I wasn’t impressed. They have recently launched a seasonal lobster menu which was really delicious. I tried the Lobster soup which had crab meat and mussells in it and it was heaven. would be perfectly if it came with a roll. My all time favourite mussell dish is the snob — mussells in lobster sauce.

Fantastic beer selection — something for every palette. Really accommodating staff. Unfortunately, just missed out on Beat the Clock but brilliant deal to keep in mind next time we’re up that way…

Had a bottle of Prosecco and snacked on some chips here at the bar. It was a gorgeous day and they had he sliding doors open. The bartender was super friendly and gave great service. I would definitely go back and try the restaurant.

If you are looking for somewhere to eat mussels in London the Belgo is the place to go. They do other dishes too if you want to go with a non mussel lover. There is a large selection of Belgian beers too. The staff wear traditional Belgian outfits, which makes them look a bit quirky. The prices are reasonable and they offer a lunch express menu for £7.95 with a drink and in the evenings they do beat the clock where you pay the price of the time you order. They have a few different selections of mussels and other dishes, but if you are ordering from the discounted menus then the selections are smaller. This branch is located in Camden, so handy if you come to scour the Market or you work in the nearby area. They also have another couple of branches in London, which are more central.

We’ve been visiting the Belgo chain for years. The food(especially the mussels) and beer are outstanding. It’s pricey but we’ve always felt it was worth it. But this last visit to Belgo Noord may have lost me as a customer. Our waiter was not very attentive. It wasn’t all that busy yet it took quite some time for the initial drink order then after some time with an empty glass, I had to flag someone down for a second beer. He would disappear for long stretches without checking in on us. Then to make matter worse, they automatically included a tip in the bill. That explained a lot. He was clearly getting his tips whether he provided good service or not. I don’t think the chain as a whole is like this but I’m not sure I’d go back to find out.

I love a little Belgo. Chains are often a good thing. They typically provide a certain consistency and quality. That is an admirable feat in my opinion. They often also provide good value for money, because a lot of the overheads and running costs are centralized… leaving a little more for lunch deals etc. I feel that Belgo is a good case for this. Although primarily known for the Moules Frites, I often choose the Spit Roast(that phrase always makes me think of Premiership footballers and girls of loose morals) Chicken sometimes with chili and ginger sauce, sometimes with the cream and mushroom sauce, always served with chips and a salad. It really impressive with it’s bountiful quantity and tasty succulence. The décor is well thought out at Belgo Noord, and the light, airy feel puts it ahead of the Belgo Centraaaaaaaaaaal branch. Don’t expect a quiet dining experience at Belgo — the open plan design adds up to a clattery experience. My first visit to Belgo Noord branch was at, of course a wonderful Unilocal Event. Lobster Fest. Remember that? Well, as ever Unilocal does it’s job and brings me back over and over!

Well, how can I start… First of all, we were greeted by half the kitchen staff stood outside the restaurant, smoking — thus being extremely off putting. We then proceeded through into the restaurant. The menu offered a good range however that benefit was deemed useless when our waiter told us most of the seafood wasn’t available. The price of food and drinks were extortionately high. My daughter ordered Coke which turned out to be falsely advertised as pepsi. The lack of ventilation made it uncomfortably hot which is bad for someone with claustrophobia. The seating was very cramp and uncomfortable — reminding me back to my school canteen in the 70s. The ethnicity of most the workers is questionable as half of them spoke Brazilian which isn’t very authentic for a restaurant which considers itself as being Belgian. I honestly do not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

2.75 stars. If nothing else, you can create an entirely new vocabulary from the somewhat questionable list of words that surround the dining area at Belgo Noord… The Beat the Clock special mentioned in Unilocal reviews can be found on the back page. There were only four choices, and only one option was moules(classic preparation). That wasn’t enough for me so I ordered the Snob which turned out to be mussels drenched in a flavorful pool of lobster bisque. We also had the classic preparation which was a bit lacking in overall flavor to me, but more preferable to my dining companion. The frites are thick cut and served with a rather sweet mayo dipping sauce. Overall, the food was acceptable without being exceptional. Given that two large halls separate the rather cavernous Belga Noord from its entranceway, it has an odd tucked away feel. The place has a nice minimalistic yet modern look, however, it could stand to be a bit more lively. My favorite part of the experience? Creating Urban Dictionary meanings for words that randomly appeared in two lines over the dining area. Let’s just say that our new definitions for«slapjaw» and«paddlecock» probably should not be included in this Unilocal review. If you happen to be in Camden and in the mood for decent Belgian food, Belgo Noord is an acceptable option.

Mega disappointed by this place. I had the seafood bowl(squid, mussels, salmon.) and was extra disappointed. Nothing ruins an experience like chewy seafood and mediocre moules. However…the salmon was EXTREMELY good, which was odd considering the subpar quality of the other fishies in my dishies. The sauce it was steeping in almost had me sleeping in. Erm. I’d only come back for their happy hour, because the dinner prices are not worth it at all for the quality of the seafood. More like«Belgo NOO»

I have a TasteCard, and Belgo is one of the places that is 2 for 1 with it, so My boyfriend and i decided to give it a try. We called ahead, as we have to with the card, and gave them a heads up. The room its self is massive with half of it in a low ceiling alcove and the rest has a huge skylight giving it a very airy feeling. It was a tuesday, so maybe there were expecting to not be busy, and being that they only had maybe a 3rd of the restaurant open, i guess they wernt. But in the hour that we were there the entire area filled. They only had a manager(who was a bit of a moron), a waiter(who was trying to keep up, and was doing his best) and a cocktail waitress(who was doing alot of standing around). The food itself was tasty, but the salads were drowned in dressing and our mains almost had more chips the actual substance. The Squid salad was rubbery and over cooked and but the duck salad was much better. I had the lobster and crab burger, but it tasted more like a generic, but good, crab cake. My boyfriend had the roasted chicken with ginger which was a bit dry. We had tickets to see a film, so we asked for the bill while we were still eating. It took them 20 min just to sort out the bill. Worth paying £20-ish. but i doubt i would go without a discount.

Im seriously a sucker for a good server and ours was a classic. Super funny and entertaining. The manger woman on the other hand… not so entertaining. Anyway… A friend and I stopped by here on a weekend afternoon for lunch. I mean… its Belgian. Who eats at a Belgian restaurant(besides Belgian people… in Belgium)? We had to test the waters. So glad we did. I valiantly attempted to down a kilo of the Thai mussels… plus frites… plus Belgian ale. I made it 2⁄3 through the mussels and thought I was going to hurl. Its a lot of mussels, be warned. That said, they were great. Lots of Belgian beers on tap and in bottles. Really cool space with great architecture. Friend loved her slow-cooked beef stew. Nice place to relax on a weekend and have a beer(and a Belgian waffle dessert).

I never really eat mussels. I mean, I’ve had them a few times and enjoyed, but they wouldn’t necessarily be the first thing I ordered off the menu. Well, Belgo Noord is all about the mussels and the smell was enticing me so I had the traditional mussels cooked in garlic and white wine with celery and onion. Basic? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely! They came with fries which were great for soaking up the excess sauce. Took me a while to get through the whole kilo pot but by golly I was determined! Some of my friends got a starter and a half-kilo pot to mix things up a bit but theirs didn’t come with fries so you have to order separately(or irritate your hardcore kilo-pot friends by stealing theirs!) The restaurant is suitably big for the after-theatre crowd they draw from the Roundhouse, yet we had pre-booked a table so no worries there. The waiters were friendly, attentive and one in particular had great banter about him and was flirting away with a friend of mine. She gave as good as she got while the rest of us were far too busy face-in-mussels to pay them any attention! A simple and reasonably-priced meal and a very handy stop off after a performance at the Roundhouse. I would certainly recommend!

Belgo: always a solid and satisfying option for moules frites and Belgian beers. I wouldn’t recommend travelling so far north for it when you can get the same thing in a more central, lively location, specifically at the Belgo in Covent Garden. But the comedic value of sitting under gigantic lettering that spells out ASSFACE, etched into the wall above you at the table in the corner( ), well, that’s worthy of an extra star, surely.
