This is a great musical that has seriously been underrated. Beckham delights from the opening song of ‘UB2’ and where you’d expect theatre and Soccer to clash, gurinder chadha has somehow made it a magical experience, full of heart and full of energy, helped by a spectacular cast. One would never have expected this many Indians onstage on a professional west end production at any one point of time, but we live in such wonderful times. Come if you like theatre, come if you like Soccer, come if you just want a good night out. There is a fabulous Bollywood dance choreography interlaced with a Soccer scene that is pure genius, and basically, CATCHITBEFOREITCLOSES

What a fantastic show! We absolutely loved it. This was My christmas present booked by my sister and I’m so glad we went. She bought our tickets online and we went to the evening show on Friday night. Bend It Like Beckham is shown at The Phoenix Theatre. the Theatre was very busy and at full capacity. The show was a bright, colourful, noisy musical ‘tamasha’. It helps if you can speak a bit of Punjabi but actually it’s all in English. I’m sure that most of us who are of Indian origin recognised various relatives in the different characters, but actually, I’m pretty sure that anyone from any background would have recognised someone that they know. The Production has a great feel good factor with brilliant songs. The cast are brilliant which includes Preeya Kalidasa who played Amira Massod on Eastenders.

I went here with my Bestie and what a brilliant night out it was. Do not go expecting Shakespeare as it is not that type of Theatre show. It was cheesy, daft, funny and giggly. I loved it. They followed the film, so if you had seen that then you would know absolutely everything that they were talking about. They had some great dance scenes and I loved all the Indian music and dancing. There was one girl that kept appearing doing«Keepy uppies» with a football, but she looked so awkward and not relaxed at all. I think this was their token gesture towards showing girls can play football, they shouldn’t have bothered. All the characters were spot on and the cast was picked perfectly. Their outfits were fabulous. How they quite managed it all… The scene changes were spot on and at each part you knew exactly where you were at. It was so true to the movie, but even if you hadn’t seen the movie, the way they caught the London Asian community, culture clashes and people overcoming these was brilliant. It was a feel good, great evening out. I had aching cheeks from smiling throughout!

Showing at the Pheonix Theatre, Bend it like Beckham is a new musical that has graced the stage many years after its film release, much like the show’s predecessor, Once the musical. However, whilst Bend it Like Beckham the film did not leave much of an impression on me, this musical far exceeded my expectations. Quintessentially British, humorous, vibrant, somewhat unpredictable and most definitely charismatic at every turn, this musical should delight anyone with any inkling of football fan-dom and appreciation of family values and culture clashes. The staging was fabulous and had more costume changes than the actors, all the characters were very likeable and well portrayed, and there are even some wonderful touches of magic. Inspirational, heartfelt and a joy to watch throughout, this musical is a family-friendly spectacle.
