From the outside it might look like another standard Turkish Restaurant, but this one doesn’t disappoint. The Adana Shish is next level. Juicy, full of flavour and not small. They also served up a large selection of sides to go with it with no extra charge. The chargrilled onions and its dressing was extremely moorish.(Visit — 16/07/2015 Dinner)

Any fan of Turkish food can tell you that Dalston is the place to go, but the trouble is that nearly every restaurant in Dalston is Turkish. Being spoilt for choice is dangerous when you’re very hungry. Such was the case when I blindly walked into Tava, really just wanting a pide(Turkish pizza) and not really caring where I got it from. For a random pick, it was pretty good. The chicken on my pide was a bit fatty, which didn’t thrill me, but the bread was really nice and everything was spiced perfectly. The ayran I got was also a good consistency. It’s not the cheapest place on the road, but if you’re looking for a place to sit down rather than walking the street while you eat it’s not bad. And if you haven’t got a recommendation for someplace, you could definitely do worse.

For those of you who don’t know the dish Tava(a Mediterranean Casserole), it is quit an ancient dish that both the Turks and Greeks claim is theirs, once again, I don’t care as I stem from both cultures. My Greek grandmother cooks this dish, and its delicious, when I know she’s cooking it, I really do anticipate that first spoon full. It is an oven dish and cooked in a certain bowl that other dishes aren’t usually cooked it, it supposedly give it a certain taste. Either way, it is delicious and one of my favorites. You do not find many restaurants that serve it as it takes quite a while to cook, and it is no surprise that Tava Restaurant have marketed their establishment around that fact, by naming it after the dish. You have it with Lamb or chicken and I recommend both! This is a great restaurant, it was recently refurbished and it is looking really lush now. They have a full menu, serving fish, Pide(pastry with various topping, cooked in a wooden oven), and all other grill and kebabs. It is spacious, has good service and a great restaurant.

Located along the long road that goes trough Hackney lays this cosy although fairly spacious restaurant, one of the best spots possible regarding quality and accurate turkish food at affordable prices. The menu range is not as wide as one might expect, is merely relying on the best-known stuff coming right up from their stone oven or the traditional dishes ready to be served hot or cold. As matter of fact, the word tava refers to the saucepan widely used to cook these dishes in question. An intelligent aproach would be in my opinion some lamahcum– paper-thin sort of pizza topped with lamb mince and fresh coarsely seasoned salad-, one of the pideler– pod-shaped thicker variation of the above dish, with either meaty or veggie toppings– or for the inbetweenies some of the appealing soups, conveniently served with daily home-made bread, to finish off. Don’t skip over the classic ayran, salty and watery yoghourt in order to suit that food galore perfectly. A meal as the one depicted for two guests should not raise the bill over the 16⁄17 pounds barrier, not a big deal for the one taking upon the check.
