After learning that Kopapa’s queue was too long to manage on a Sunday morning, my friend and I decided to try out Bill’s for brunch. Bill’s offers standard brunch fare. I ordered an Eggs Royale and a latte. The food was OK but nothing spectacular. I would recommend coming to Bill’s if you’re looking for an easy, hassle free breakfast. But if you’re in the mood for something that will blow your tastebuds away, I don’t think this will satisfy your palate!

This is a chain restaurant, which I’ve seen in all the touristy areas of London — Westfield, High Street Kensington, Covent Garden… As it’s a chain, I arrived intending to hate it. The menu looked long, which in my experience is never a good sign as it means the chef can’t specialise on doing a few things well. But it turns out I was completely wrong as the long menu just means that there are more options — there’s a meal for every mood. Feeling healthy? Try the salad, which is substantial. The sea bass is also mighty fine. Need a treat? There’s a lot of hearty meat based dishes on the menu. Prices are really affordable for central London — you can have a very good quality and filling meal for two including a drink for £40 and that includes the tip. Cocktails start at just £5, which is incredibly cheap. Make sure to save room for the Eton Mess dessert — it’s divine.

Stopped by on our last day in London for breakfast. My sister was determined to not leave London without eating a full english breakfast with beans. Unlike some of the other breakfast places in the area — this had no wait A+. The décor was super cute, the shelves are lined with jams and foods that you can purchase after your meal. As for the food, our family ordered: — Bill’s Bread Basket(3.95): Came with a variety of breads and some jams — Bill’s Breakfast(7.95): Sausage, Eggs, Mushrooms, bacon and toast. Super good! Definatly a must try. — Egg’s Royal(7.95): Eggs benedict with smoked salmon instead. The hollandaise was to die for — Cumberland sausage served in toasted brioche roll(4.25): MUSTTRY! Looked AND tasted amazing.

Bill’s attracted me because of the cool decorations and the quality mediterranean food. The dishes sound and taste quite good but I was a bit disappointed by the sizes. Personally I’m not a fan of huge portions but I felt kinda sorry for my dad and my brother who sure would have welcomed fuller plates. The mains appeared more like starters to be honest. Still they didn’t complain because the flavours were good. I might go again if I’m looking for a place where you can easily get a table on a Saturday night.

First Bill’s I’ve tried and thought it was good. Pre theatre menu was good value and the food was nice.

We needed a place to go after the theater and this was a great spot. I honestly can’t remember one thing I had except for the amazing banana dessert. Great atmosphere!

I think I just love Bill’s too much and too biased haha! Was telling myself that I’ll have to allocate some breakfast to try out other restaurants during my short time in London, but still ended up having two breakfasts here! Always love the atmosphere and décor, very comfortable and homey, even though it feels like you are eating in a hipster corner/convenient/grocery store lol. I always ordered a pot of tea with Bill’s breakfast. The pot of tea was huge and the full breakfast’s portion was big and delicious. Though many locals came and bought coffee to-go, made me wonder if I should try out Bill’s coffee. However, my reflex every time was to get tea and usually I was too full to get another cup of coffee… maybe next time. :P Also tried pancakes due to friend’s recommendation. It was good and different from what I usually have! At first I was wondering if the syrup was enough(I am so Americanized in this aspect…), but found out that the pancake batter was already seasoned! With a hint of saltiness and extra jam/berry in the middle, it was delicious. There were also some fresh fruits on it. The price with the quality and portion was pretty good, I have not yet try other meal here yet. Though Bill’s will always be the place to go for breakfast when I am in London!

A few weeks ago I organised my company’s christmas party at Bill’s and the staff were helpful and diligent. They were amenable to changes in numbers and orders, even when I submitted it later than required. Id never visited Bill’s before but I found the atmosphere warm and inviting and the design quirky. The food itself was very nice, simple and came out quickly. The staff as ever were lovely and we were given a nice big area to ourselves. We all agreed that we had a great time and we’d happily visit again!

Went for brunch and I was horribly hungover. I’d been for dinner at the one in Soho and the one in Holborn(separate reviews coming up) and it’s always been a safe bet.(at least the one in Soho.) but this one was hmmm. ok? Brunch was nice, but nothing special. I had green eggs on sourdough with pumpkin seeds, an overpriced smoothie and tea. There are so many better brunch places in London, that I felt I could only give it 3 stars. Wouldn’t avoid it, but wouldn’t be my first choice.

Another catch-up girly dinner, another crowd-pleasing visit to Bill’s! It was my first visit to this branch and I fell smack bang in love with the triple-storey floor to ceiling bookshelves(albeit most were filled with carefully-stacked food tins rather than books — but anyone else who saw Beauty & The Beast and has craved Belle’s library ever since will know what I mean!). I was with one of my fussier-eating friends but there’s something for everyone on the menu here. My chorizo & hummous burger from the specials was something different and a solid choice(though the chorizo kept trying to escape), and served on a cute chopping board with a mini bucket of shoestring skin-on fries mmm. Among the others, the grilled sea-bream with slaw also looked pretty good, though there wasn’t as much fish in the fish finger sandwich as I’d have expected. Service was a bit hit-and-miss sadly — generally took a while to get their attention. Our first server was fun, confident and seemed on the ball until she brought out the wrong bottle of wine. Not a big deal(though it didn’t sound anything like the same one). We also made the mistake of saying we weren’t in a rush to leave at the end when another waitress told us the card machine was being used on another table. She promptly forgot about us and disappeared, and we finally got someone else’s attention after another 15mins. Good-sized portions so we(unusually!) ran out of room for dessert. Still think some of the dishes are on the pricey side for what you get(like the side of sweet potato fries for £3.55?) but overall a solid choice for a group meal — esp if you’re not sure how adventurous everyone is food-wise. Great shelves too ;)

Breakfast at Bill’s they all cried. Trust me, we were close to crying at the end. I ordered pancakes. Wife ordered Eggs Benedict My pancakes were OK, nothing to shout about and remember, these are American-style pancakes. Even I can do a good pancake. The maple syrup on their was scrooge-like(by the end, I was sweeping pieces of pancake across my plate to suck up the drying remains of the maple syrup(which was of the worse quality, I have tasted good syrups — Maine, Vermont etc and bad ones — sugar syrup from McD. This was of the latter). At least I was lucky enough to get a brekkie. The wife’s eggs benedict when arrived was HARD-BOILED. You could hard-boil and egg and still be softer than how it arrived. Again, a poached egg. Its boiling water, chuck an egg in, turn water off and leave for three mins. You dont need to be Jamie Oliver. The hollandaise sauce that she got must have again, been rashioned or its one of those posh eats where less is more. Drinks were expensive and after complaining, they did take the Eggs B off the bill but still came to over £15(eeeek!!!) The shop itself reminded me of what it would be like if Lush sold food. Overpriced boutique bottles of lemonade. And the décor was just trying to hard to be in with the cool kids who wants this sort of crap over a decent greasy caff. in summary. AVOIDAVOIDAVOID!!!

My first time at the wonderful Bill’s. I’ve heard many good things about their breakfast, but we went for dinner and it didn’t disappoint. The décor is an eclectic hosh posh of candlesticks and tissue wrapping paper, metal ladders and jars of goodies lining the walls. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. It’s got food for friends down to a tee. The menu has all the basics — burgers, risotto, fish and chips, but with nice little twists, like the hummus and halloumi burger I had. Desserts were lovely, not mind blowing, but you can’t really go wrong with mini cinnamon doughnuts!

I’m a fan of the chain, but this location left me feeling somewhat disappointed. I had booked in for a group of about 10 girlfriends for an afternoon tea. While our table was reserved, we had to wait to get to the table. The main waiter for the table was not responsive, and we had to ask three times for table water. Besides that, the food was great. It’s an awesome alternative to an afternoon tea for a lower price. They offer the champagne tea, but with a twist. I’d go to any of the chains for a quick cup of tea and a nice snack in the afternoon!

I think we bombarded them when our group of 20 came in! According to my friends I ordered all the best stuff. I orders the sausages before my entrée and it was delightful. Really nice to share. For my entrée to ordered the clams in a creamy white sauce. I’m a big fan of seafood so I really enjoyed it. The presentation was also good– it came in a cute little pot on a plate of wood. The fancy drinks and floats there are also very enjoyable. Nice place for a date and is conveniently located in a nice small plaza. The only thing that went wrong was that when our food came out it came in different orders and some of us took others plates on accident which created a huge confusion. This might be a useful tip I consider for waitresses or waiters: seat numbers really help !

Not bad Bill’s. Not bad. I came here with some friends for lunch and loved the views from upstairs! It was a chilled, relaxing lunch with lovely food. My «lighter main» of marinated chicken skewers with tzatziki and cous cous was huuuge and really filling. So much so that I couldn’t even contemplate dessert. My friend’s food looked similarly lovely(and huge!) Service: This lets the place down for me… the lady that served us might have been in a grumpy mood(or maybe her ‘resting’ face was just naturally sour!?) She took such a long time to even allow us to order, then we thought she’d forgotten about our drinks because they took so long. When we checked if they were on the way, I felt like a naughty school girl. Don’t cross your waitress here! I think I’d like to come back, and just hope for a different waitress. :)

So it probably was not the best idea to come here straight after all the free food samples we tried at a cupcake launch but even though we were quite full, it wasn’t dinner and so off we went to Covent Garden. Yes. We’re fatties. No, don’t judge. I do this in the name of Unilocal!and also i know what you’re thinking; cupcakes before dinner? Do you even know me? Desserts before dinner ALWAYS! I don’t take the chance that I ‘might’ have space for dessert. That’s a shit probability. Bills is located in st martins courtyard and the area actually been done up and made lovely with most restaurants having an outside patio. If only it wasn’t raining. Anyways got there around 7.30−8pm and there was a half hour wait but given that we’d eaten beforehand, it’s okay. I wished they had a bar seating area. I was getting parched waiting. Finally got sat down, under a MASSIVE three longed candlestick(if you have a fear of fire and hair, move away now lol) ordered two bloody Mary’s and a mezzo platter to share. The food, was standard. Sauces were nothing special, it’s just a sharing board. But the lighting is pretty, if you’re the fire sort of girl, which I am. :) ill be back for the cocktails — small selection but pretty cheap for London. Getting the bill at bills(pahahaha) wasn’t that smooth, ended up getting up and asking!

I have quite mixed feelings about Bills’ having discovered the original Bill’s in Brighton quite a few years back I wasn’t sure whether I should be happy to have one closer to home. What seems to come natural in Brighton somehow feels a bit forced in Covent Garden. St Martin’s Courtyard is a new shopping development and the industrial style interior just doesn’t quite ring true here. Especially as the interior designers at Jamie’s next door seem to have followed a similar strategy. Still, the atmosphere is casual and comforting especially on a cold and rainy Sunday afternoon like today’s. We popped in for a coffee and just couldn’t resist the cakes. The vanilla cheesecake was one of the best I’ve had since visiting my friend Greg who makes an even better one. You can book online for the evening slots only while brunch/lunch operates on a first come first served basis.
