Only recently found this takeaway but I really enjoyed their fish and chips. Cheap and cheerful and highly recommended!

This has to be one of the best Fish and Chip shops in England never mind London! You will almost always find a small queue of people in the know as well as fortunate locals waiting for one of their giant portions of fish and chips. The value is astounding — I’ve never had such big portions — but also the quality is right up there with beautifully cooked soft fish inside crispy batter. The chips are just as I like them, not too thin, just a little hint of crispyness and yielding on the inside. I’ve not tried the chicken or sausages(the fish is just too good) but they certainly look the part. The mushy peas are good — maybe not ‘Northern’ brilliant but perfectly acceptable. Topping all of this off is a fantastic friendly service from people who really seem to love their job. As I live less than 100 metres from the shop it is a real effort to resist going there every day, guaranteed quality whenever I go!

I think it’s very important to know all the takeaways in direct vicinity of where I live. We can’t all live off Dominos. Lucky then that I’m right next to this neat little food establishment where you can get some ludicrously cheap traditional fish and chips, though I’m a saveloy girl myself. Also if you fancy a change get their chicken and chips… which have quite the glittery reputation in the area. Trust me I’m a fried chicken connoisseur.

Ah the Britannia Fish Bar, possibly the best chips I’ve tasted in a large city. Your standard fish and chip shop, Britannia is very low key and sensible and offers really good greasy food at very reasonable prices. It’s a welcome relief from the various terrible kebab and chicken shops that otherwise swamp this part of London, this place sells chips not fries and reminds you, if only briefly, of walks along the sea-front, boater hats and donkey rides, in short it injects a good healthy dose of Britishness right into your arteries. I you happen to be walking by I thoroughly recommend this excellent little takeaway.
