Without doubt — the very most amazingly delicious smoked salmon I have ever tasted. It literally melts in the mouth. I usually shop at places that are close to home — but for Browns I gladly make the journey, which although not too far away is definitely not on my usual route. As others have said on this page — the smoked salmon has to be one — if not THE best — in the world — and decidedly addictive! I certainly have never had anything as delicious. But don’t bypass the other fish — I have also never tasted such fresh and delicious halibut, sole, seabass or scallops — and although it is not to everyones taste — the jellied eels are SUBLIME. Their sushi-grade salmon sashimi seldom makes it home unopened and sampled — it is that wonderful. Also terrific are their various daily ‘bargain bundles’ where for £18 I got two hefty halibut steaks and half a pound of sublime smoked salmon. The eggs are the freshest I have had — equal to ones I would collect from the hen’s coop when I stayed with friends that have hens. They have fishcakes and many other kinds of fish that I have not yet tried, but presume they must be also of this great quality. The men that work in the shop are the most cheerful and happy lot, and hugely helpful — and have refined the art of temptation by giving you generous free tastes of the different grades of smoked salmon(dry, medium or oily). This is a truly great place!

Shortly after moving to St John’s Wood, i decided to take a jog through Regents Park. I past this fishmonger on my way home one day and poked my head in for a quick look. Immediately upon seeing me, a man held a five inch long slice of beautiful smoked salmon, and offered me a sample. I accepted it… It was good. It was damn good. It was, hands down, the finest smoked salmon that i’ve ever had in my life. I will be using Brown’s smoked salmon as the basis for every piece of smoked salmon that i ever have for the rest of my life. Unfortunately, i don’t go on jogs with money in my pockets. I ran home, and tried to forget about the salmon but thought i’d mention the fishmonger to my flatmate, who is something of a cook himself. We both paused while talking about it and just by the look on his face, i could tell that he was thinking about what i was thinking. He had been given a taste of the salmon a few weeks prior. I jokingly called it «the chronic of salmon», though he upped the ante by calling it «the crack of salmon». We were both hooked. I took a shower and tried to dress myself as someone else; i didn’t want the people working here to know that i was coming back to the market twice in one day. Fortunately, they didn’t recognize me. I left the market as a better man. One with salmon. We put it into our eggs. we put it on toasted bagels with cream cheese lemon juice and capers. we put it onto slices of baguette with crème fraîche… we put it on everything we could… I’ve been back for the salmon several times. Occasionally buying it instead of the fish i actually came there for. The rest of the fish here is fine.

Family run fishmonger supply cracking fish and sea food. The father looks like a proper fisherman with a big bushy beard. ‘A laughing fellow rover’, I believe the poem goes. Not the cheapest in town! But if cost is important, Captain Birds Eye can be found in the dodgy corner shop next door!
