This is a review for Star Command laser tag — having recently moved to a new venue in Whitechappel you can now play the new arena with hidden rooms, mazes, great sounds and special effects. Pretty reasonable too for a party of 5. Good for kids.

I’m quite amazed that laser tag hasn’t changed in over 20 years(since the last time I played). While not terribly convenient to public transport and in the dodgiest-feeling post-apocalyptic auto industrial estate setting, the bunker is actually a really cool place to play around. The guys working there instructed us in a variety of different games for an hour, and we seriously had a blast. 3 tips: 1) wear old/mucky clothes. Even if you’re not playing paintball, the venue is entirely covered in grease and you don’t want to kneel and get that on nice trousers. Wear sneakers for running around, not shoes for going out after. 2) it’s really hard to find. The last time I was in such a weird murdery place was looking for the Cretaquarium(in Crete), which was similarly on the water behind some abandoned buildings. Some signs would definitely help. Basically, if you get off the bust rom North Greenwich at the circle, turn left. Walk to the end of the street past the auto shops. Turn left again. When you see the building containing a church on the first floor and a go-kart track on the riverside, enter the parking lot. The entrance is on the ground floor on the right, covered with some camp netting. If you go too far and report to the go-kart guys that you’re lost, they will kindly show you the way. 3) bring £1 for the lockers.

Came here recently for Laser Tag. Having not played since I was kid thought I’d give it a go, definitely had a fun night. They appear to have two main rooms within the building and they offer paintballing and Zombie events too. The first room had a better layout that the second with passage ways to hide in and more objects to hide behind. The second one definitely had a more Zombie theme to it, there was a jeep, sludge everywhere and it smelt really bad. We were told that the smell of the paintballs and they also use a Zombie mist for their Zombie events was the reason. Didn’t do too well at playing and soon got very hot, but was a lot of fun. It’s not the easiest location to get to as it’s next to the Thames Barrier on the North Penisular. There also appears to be go karting in this area too. I don’t many places that are within central London though and it was only a quick bus ride from the O2, which is where we went for a quick drink after.

Bunker 51 is in the middle of nowhere, so you definitely need to take the bus if you want to make it out there. The paintball waiting area is on the ground floor, hidden behind some stairs. Be sure to wear sneakers you don’t mind cleaning off. Lockers are £1. We were given masks and thin onesies(which don’t protect you from pellet pain so be either prepared for battle wounds or wear protective gear underneath). We got the 35 quid deal which gives you 2 canisters of paint and doesn’t last long, but we topped up with more paint halfway through. The paint is clear, which is a bit disappointing because it’s way more fun to be able to see the paint marks when they’re colored. If you have 5 people, you can get a 6th person in for free. The arena is comprised of two areas full of crates, hiding nooks, etc. We played against another team of strangers, and had several rounds of capture the flag, secure the room, secure the room. There were two referee types who monitored the game. Again, paintball HURTS so just be aware before you subject to masochistic pain. Overall it was a fun way to spend an evening with a large group of people.

I went here on the glorious Monday Bank Holiday weather of the 27th of May. I don’t think I’ve ever had 2 hours pass so damn quickly! This place is pretty tucked away, it’s right next to the Thames barrier pretty much. The venue itself in first sight is tiny, but when you get into the play arena’s, WOW! the size of these arenas are immense and amazing. They are fun to run around in, and they are a great looking and great playing feel. I would gladly go back. Just a shame this one time I went, they offered a turn up and play deal. Normally you’d need to book, they need to do the turn up and play more often.
