Café 1001

I give it 4 stars for endless internetting and lounging in leather couches and pillows without hassle to leave. I noticed both locals and travellers hang out at this spot, pribably because its cheap and has great coffee. Food is average, dirty hot breakfasts, sandwiches, soups but all affordable and as I mentioned a great internet spot. Not quiet for study but their groovy house tunes may get you in the zone. Food trucks are also just around the corner :-)

Was really excited to try this place as the space looks nice and it is close to my apartment. Unfortunately the woman working here has a terrible attitude and was extremely rude both to me and the waitress. She spoke to the waitress in a very demeaning and unprofessional way in front of all the customers. When I asked her a simple question about the price of my tea (30 cents more then the posted price), she gave me a mouthful. I almost turned around and left the shop. I would definitely not recommend anyone to come here as there are plenty of great coffeeshops nearby!

Nice place, shame that the person behind the till intentionally overcharged me for the tea & cakes I ordered.

On my last trip to London I was looking for a good place to get some work done and get some good food at the same time. This place was perfect for that.
They serve great breakfast with various selections of eggs, veggies and pastries and there’s plenty of table space and free wifi.
The tables upstairs even have accessible plugs for charging your laptop. The atmosphere was laid back and quiet enough to think, and the music was uninterruptive.
I ended up staying for hours, going from breakfast through lunch.
The service was pleasant and efficient and I never once felt like I had to leave or buy more to be allowed to stay.

Still in shock! Ordered scrambled eggs on toast. After waiting quite a while a woman brought my plate out (nice outdoor seating!), they were two fried eggs on toast. I said I ordered scrambled. Her reaction was an eyeroll, and said ’ well no-​one told me’, and she proceeded to put it in front of me. I told her, I’d like scrambled as I asked for scrambled! She huffed and puffed and took my plate away, then she shouted loudly from the door for everyone to hear: are you sure you ordered scrambled?! I shouted back: yes, I’m sure .
Two minutes later my scrambled eggs came out. It was obviously she had just proceeded to scramble the already fried eggs.
Seriously…no words.

I will forever nurture a fondness for this place but I have to say that it’s not what it used to be. Back when I first came to London to visit friends at uni, this place was constantly heaving with too cool for school precursory hipsters, way back when we didn’t even call them that. Now it seems in a sad state, only ever packed in the summer on market days. I feel sorry for the guy who mans the permanently installed grill parked outside.
It’s cheap enough and you can feel free to do whatever but now that Brick Lane’s truly on the map, there are plenty of alternatives to 1001 and I wouldn’t bother grabbing a bite here. Maybe just pay your £4 for a can of Red Stripe and hang out on the benches outside if you’re feeling a bit nostalgic.

O famoso 3 em 1… No CAFE 1001 podemos fazer uma alusão aos 3 turnos do dia. De manhã, você entra, pede um expresso e trabalha usando wi-​fi aberto. De tarde, sobe as escadas e curte o ambiente com iluminação aconchegante num sofá confortável. De noite cai na balada, pois tem um club nos fundos.
É uma ótima porta de entrada para o estilo de vida no leste da cidade.
O verão pede hamburger na barraquinha de BBQ na área de fora.

didn’t know how to rate this place. Let’s start with coffee or maybe I should not call it that way as it would be an offence to coffee itself. This thing in a cup was the most atrocious thing I had to drink and no, I did not finish it. Actually after 2 sips I left it all where it was. I don’t know what it was but coffee that wasn’t, I’m sure of that. more like poison. The cheesecake — much better, it was actually quite tasty and smooth. The ambience is cool, laid back, comfy sofas and lots of space. so yeah, maybe good for pint more than coffee lovers. And the toilets, oh-​my-​god, as soon as I saw it, I knew I would have to hold it until I got home.

The place looks nice and the atmosphere is very relaxed but the lady behind the counter (inside) was unfriendly. It was raining and we sat inside where we had a coffee and a cappuccino and they were no better than McDonald’s.
Even though there weren’t many people, the tables were not cleaned and there was some salad scattered on the floor.
I will give this place another try when it’s sunny and I can sit outside.

Je connaissais ce café la journée, au coeur du quartier de briklane /​shoreditch a coté de rough trade records et à deux pas des petits snacks de bagel juste délicieux. Pour boire un verre, profiter du free wifi, avec de la musique toujours sympa, un espace cosy, et, en règle général, toujours de la place.
Y’a de quoi manger, des sandwich, un bbq à l’exterieur avec une terrasse (même en hiver, pour les fumeurs)… Incontestablement le petit coin sympa ou prendre une pause à toute heure…
Et a toute heure, c’est peu dire: j’ai découvert lors de ma dernière visite la partie «club», qui ouvre visiblement qu’à certaines heures ou dates: de la house et de la techno music dans une salle au fond de la salle du haut après avoir taversé un couloir, des vieux canapés en cuir, des palettes qui font office de table, et pouvoir danser à toute heure, pendant des heures (il était dimanche, 16h), l’evenement s’appellait Ritual Sunday, j’ignore si c’est tout les dimanches ou seulement moins fréquent, mais ce fut une très agréable surprise, et une ambiance vraiment sympa, comme s’il y avait une ouverture vers un after club a berlin dans un café cosy à londres. La porte 9−¾ electronique.

I’ve been here only one time with some friends but I enjoyed the location and the ambient. Is a place to be back for sure!
By the way, Nice coffee but not really good customer service by the waitress.

I like everything about this place. Three rooms, three vibes– you could definitely spend the entire day here and if I lived i London I probably would.
Front room– café, beer, coffee, cheap snacks, wifi.
Mid room– lounge– drinks, get some nice house music going on in the evening.
Back room– club atmosphere with lounge space in the back. Decent sound system (not spectacular) but you get a good dance crowd going. House, tech, trap.
Like…why would you ever need to leave???

I came here 3 years ago and can’t wait for my next trip to London to go back. The atmosphere is fun yet relaxed, the people are nice and the drinks are good. This place has a trendy/​hipster vibe (my personal favorite). Anytime I hear someone utter the words London I recommend this place.

One of my favorite coffee shops in London that I visit every time I am in town. Although I’ve had better coffee I love the vibe and the surrounding neighborhood.

This place really confused me the first few times I walked past it. It seems ridiculous but I guess I just didn’t understand it. Was the outside grill part of the inside café or were they two different businesses? Where do I order and where do I pay? Where can I sit? I’m not kidding — I walked into and by this place probably 3 times to spy and observe.
Finally I just took the plunge. I just went for it, cause I’m a cowboy like that.
It’s all one café, but with a separate til for outside fresh grill orders (beef burgers, veggie burgers, grilled haloumi and eggplant burgers) and another for inside coffee/​pre-​made sandwich/​salad/​bakery treats orders. The pasta and green salads always look fresh and healthy (not like the mayo and bacon-​packed concoctions of grocery store standbys), are big enough for two meals and include a fresh baguette. The sandwiches come on fresh-​baked bread and loaded with lovely things like chorizo, pesto, grilled chicken and avocado. (Sandwich eating has proven difficult for me to adjust to here in the UK, and it’s a rare occasion when I can’t pick a sandwich because they ALL sound good; usually it’s because none of them do. So kudos to you, 1001.)
Loads of indoor and outdoor seating and friendly enough staff. Decent prices that range from £4-£6 for a large sandwich.
But don’t get the wrong idea — this is no cute little boutique coffee house with sandwiches Come on, this is East London! It’s gritty and unrefined; worn in and well loved.
And, they take cards!

Came here to see The Switch on a Wednesday night and was pleasantly surprised by the venue! Outside it has a grubby looking burger stand and inside a hipster coffee shop… but if you make it up the stairs and to the back room you find a big room with sofa’s that suck you in and rocking music! Cost of a beer was average for Shoreditch. All the bands rocked the night away and the sound guy knew exactly what he was doing. Would defo stop by again.

Empfehlenswerter Club neben der Brick Lane: Interessante Leute, sehr entspannte Atmosphäre und gute Musik. Hier kann man was trinken gehen, Kleinigkeiten essen (auch mittags), einfach im Sofa sitzen, tanzen oder Leute beim Tanzen beobachten. Viele Gäste wirkten auf mich wie direkt den 80ern entsprungen. Immer Sommer war ich leider noch nicht da, aber die Atmosphäre vor dem Eingang war schon im Winter toll: mit Dosenbier aus der Kühltruhe und netten Menschen die Nacht erleben. Insgesamt hat mich alles sehr an Berlin erinnert, im besten Sinne.

I love this place! It’s a great place to go for lunch if you’re around the area the food is very reasonably priced (Less than £4 for a salad with bread and butter) and the food is well put together and very tasty.
You can also get tasty burgers, wedges and other hot treats from the outside BBQ area.
They also have a upper area and back room so there is usually space in the day. However it can get quite busy on the weekends and at night.
The place always has a busy vibe and a raw ‘trendy’ feel.
Definitely a good option for food and drinks, however I believe this place opens on the weekends as a bar/​dance venue, and I’m not sure what it is like then.
Downsides are that it is a raw venue, so can feel a little run down and grubby, also due to large front window’s it can get chilly in winter (it’s great in summer), additionally sometimes as it’s very popular you’ll struggle to get a seat!

Le 1001 est en passé de devenir un de mes lieux «feel good» préférés à Londres. Imaginez, un bar immense, avec des canapés bien confortables, une ambiance hipster-​branchouille-​cool, du café, de quoi grignoter, du wifi gratuit… Où vous pourriez venir vous installer avec un bon livre ou tout simplement pour faire une petite pause entre Rough Trade East, Spitalfield market et les bars et restaurants de Brick Lane.
Le genre de café où vous pouvez vous poser toute seule et vous sentir comme à la maison. Ca n’a pas de prix quand on est en vacances, en tout cas pas pour moi ! :)

It fills a hole.
A veggie-​burger– and toilet-​shaped hole.
The enormous signs popped up all over the Brick Lane area advising punters to ‘USE THE TOILETS PROVIDED’ are always getting in the way of me urinating in public, so, not being a fan of port-​a-​loos, I begrudgingly elected to stop into Café 1001 when I needed to pee and was feeling a bit peckish.
The BBQ outside looked welcoming (and cheap) enough, so it seemed a perfectly appropriate Shoreditch pitstop. The veggie burger patty was frozen, collected from a box filled with other veggie burger patties; I’m sure you’ll be unsurprised to hear that it won’t be winning any awards for its momentous achievement in the culinary arts. But the bap it came in was fresh and enjoyable, as were all the salad ingredients that went on top of it. The two gigantor potato wedges that accompanied it, while a welcome complimentary addition to the £5 lunch, were nothing particularly special.
The couches and tables inside were lined with 20-​somethings aglow behind their Macbooks, sapping Café 1001’s free wifi. The vibe might be cool to some, twatty to others.
The toilets rather bafflingly didn’t have locks on the stall doors. So, in a way, I guess they ticked my public urination box after all.

I have this weird, devoted love for Café 1001.
I stumbled upon it my first week living in London, all sparkly eyed Erasmus student. Its cushy lounge area with the free albeit over-​stretched wifi is home to many wonderful memories of myself feeling extraordinarily urban and happenin’ and content digging into their food with my fellow co-​students.
I seriously adore the food. The Burgers from the bbq station out front are huge, the potato wedges that come along with them fit to knock a person out when thrown with enough force. My half-​greek cousin once told me that the Moussaka we had there was one of the best she’d ever had, and that has to count for something. I also have an ongoing love affair with all their baked goods, as the display on the bar is simply too enticing to walk by when you’re planning on an afternoon of cramming. Especially the carrot cake.
So, why only 4 stars, then? The coffee. It’s a sad state of affairs but, alas, the coffee is quite deplorable. Add to that the fact that it’s desperately overstuffed on the weekends and pretty drafty in the winter due to its warehouse premises, I’ll have to deduct a star.

Located on a short street off a Brick Lane, this venue has great entertainment, food and atmosphere. Depending on the time of day, or your mood, 1001 has something for everyone. You can relax inside, drink coffee and browse the Internet (for free) on one of the many couches upstairs, enjoy the Brick Lane atmosphere outside while drinking at one of the picnic tables, or rock out in the backroom to live music with plenty of dancing space. Later in the night and on weekends, the entire street is absolutely packed, though the size of the venue is deceiving, as the upstairs bar is quite spacious and often has completely separate live music from the DJ. For those so inclined, there is also a book-​orphanage where you can swap your old books for new ones.
Who should you take here? Anyone. It is really just dependent on when you go. Perfect for a coffee and cake date, a study session and/​or a fun night out.

Mon point de chute obligatoire à Londres!
Toujours rempli mais jamais désagréable, il y passé souvent des concert de rock et de dubstep! Il est même possible de prendre des cours de danse le dimanche.
L’entrée est quasiment toujours gratuite et les consommations boire/​mange sont vraiment abordables!
Si vous aimez les endroits un peu underground devenus à la mode, vous devez y allez!
De plus le quartier en lui même est génial, la journée comme le soir!

Le 1001 est simplement mon bar préféré à Londres. C’est une ancienne usine transformée en café géant. A l’entrée on peut acheter de quoi manger (salé, sucré) et de quoi boire et ensuite on monte se caler dans un canapé et on peut rester là des heures et des heures et des heures.
Le soir ça se transforme en pseudo boîte très indé et branchée, mais pas branché friqué, branché bohème à l’image des habitants du quartier.

Do try to get there early as it does get busy and you want to make sure you get good seats (sofas!). I got there a teeny bit late and ended up sitting on the concrete floor =(However we did end up finding ourselves a nice big comfy sofas *yay*
So sit back and relax with a beer or cola on one hand (yup they have a bar) and enjoy the films!

I LOVE THIS PLACE its unique in every way, iam not going to say to much that other have said but i want to review this one night.
Me and my friend wanted to watch a film (17agiain) i know quite sad, she wanted to watch it for Zac Efron i wanted to watch it because I really dont know. ANYWAY! cinemas were not showing it plus the one that were, was too far and didnt want to spend eight pound. So we thought lets go to Brick Lane Iam sure will find something. Got into Café 1001 bought a drink and a muffin by the way if you buy the cholate chip one, it is lacking in mositure meaning its taste dddrrrrryyyyy.
So on that night we discovered an event called Short & Sweet which shows short film every monday from 7:30pm in the back room and guess what it is for FREE! The place was packed so i do suggest get their earlier, we had to sit on floor, but thats what i love about it, its not normal. They showed some really good quality short film various types. During the break the presenter asked us to talk with the person next to us, which was really cool we met two lovely ladies.

Love the atmosphere, the comfy sofas, dim lights the bar everything. I know ill be a regular one, on mondays now.

Kenne nur den Clubbetrieb, der die Nächte am Wochenende füllt. Der ist ziemlich gut! Für London geradezu eine Sensation ist der freie Eintritt in den ersten Stunden und das mit 3 Pfund relativ günstige (und gute) jamaikanische Bier aus Dosen. Die Türsteher nehmen ihren Job in der Menge etwas zu ernst, aber ansonsten ist das 1001 in der Clubfunktion ein echter Bringer — gutes Booking mit elektronischer Musik zwischen Techno, House, Drum’n’Bass und Dubstep, nette Räumlichkeiten in einer alten Lagerhalle, kostenlose, gute Garderobe, schnelles Barpersonal und eine nette Mischung an manchmal natürlich zu betrunkenen Leuten. Zu späterer Stunde wird es von daher dank der ordentlichen Menge an verschütteten Flüssigkeiten relativ dreckig und das 1001 ist sowieso nicht der sauberste Ort in der Stadt. Insofern und auch ganz generell könnte das Teil auch in Berlin stehen. Lässig, szenig, günstig, entspannt und mit guter Musik.

Un du préféré place pour entrer dans Londres et considérablement la formation très célèbre. Il est facile de trouver et il y a toujours des tas des gens peu importe le temps de jour ou de temps d’année.
Qui est sans doute pourquoi il plié en deux comme un grand bar de café/​salade de jour et un bar/​club fonctionnant la nuit!
Il classe de ressemble à un accroupi avec les grands coussins confortables placés partout et les chandelles pour faiblement allumer la chambre.
Il y a une gamme d’aliments des salades et des sandwichs aux gâteaux, les jeannettes et les biscuits au muesli.
À l’extérieur il y a une grande région de places assises de tables de piqué-​nique marron et d’un BBQ la portion des aliments chauds comme les hamburgers et les hot-​dogs et le poulet épicé.
Ils vendent une gamme de boissons du plus ordinaire aux boîtes de Bière blonde jamaïquaine la plus connue par les étudiants appelés la Strie Rouge.
Oh et un coup de tequila est £2.50. Maintenant vous né pouvez pas dire plus équitable que cela.
À l’intérieur et est en haut où vous rencontrez la plupart de la mutilation, avec deux chambres de musique et d’une charge des caractères les plus inhabituels que vous pouvez trouver dans un espace.
Il y a normalement des événements comme les spectacles de film d’étudiant sur le milieu la semaine et ensuite vers la fin des nuits de club de semaine avec un DISC-​JOCKEY de nouvel âge frais.
Il est amusant, c’est jeune et si votre intelligent sur le fait d’avoir un d’entre ceux passent des tas de week-​ends d’argent alors c’est l’endroit pour vous.

Was für eine Entdeckung! Wenn man so die heruntergekommene Brick Lane entlangschlendert und am x-​ten indischen Supermarkt und am x-​ten Curryrestaurant vorbeikommt, erwartet man alles nur nicht das.
Mit einem Mal ändert sich das Bild komplett und man landet im szenigen Teil dieser eher nicht so anheimelnd wirkenden Straße. In einer kleinen Gasse bei der alten Truman Brauerei taucht auf einmal dieses Café auf, wo es Sandwiches in allen Variationen gibt, z.B. mit Chorizo und getrockneten Tomaten, oder Tuna, oder smoked chicken für 2,90 Pounds, Salate, Pastasalate für 3,90, frische Säfte für 2,50, eine Reihe von Patisserie, Cocktails, Lasagne, Barbecue etc. und man ist einfach nur erstaunt und glücklich über diesen unerwarteten Wandel der Atmosphäre.
Man kann sowohl drinnen als auch draußen sitzen, es gibt Sofas und Stühle, alles im Used Look, die Sandwiches sind fantastisch, die Salate auch.
Man kann hier zu jeder Tages-​und Nachtzeit einkehren, morgens zum Frühstück und nachts, wenn die Djs auflegen zum ausgehen und Cocktailtrinken.
Hier ist alles voller junger Szenemenschen, kein Wunder, denn nebenan gibts noch né Reihe netter Klamottenläden, einen Laden, der alte Vespas verkauft und andere gastronomische Etablissements, die ebenfalls einen Besuch wert sind.
Hingehen und Ausprobieren!

Eine nette Bar in Brick Lane. Sie hat 24h geöffnet und somit gibt es vom Frühstück, Snacks, Sandwiches, … u.s.w. die Komplettversorgung für den ganzen Tag. Der Kaffee ist nicht ganz nach meinem Geschmack, auch der Wein ist eher für eine Schole geeignet, aber dafür macht die Stimmung alles wieder gut. Morgens ist chillen auf den vielen Sofas ein gelungender Start in den Tag und abends kann der Tag mit Hilfe von zwei kleinen Floors wunderbar ausklingen. Hier wird erzählt, getanzt, beobachtet und das alles ohne Eintritt!!!
