We were walking down the street and happened upon this quaint little place looking for a nice glass of wine and an appetizer. Well we hit the jack pot! Being wine enthusiasts from California we were looking for something out of OUR ordinary. And we found just that — Oltre Passo Falanghina from Italy. It was fruity and a bit nutty. Seemed a little like a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to me — very refreshing. We started off with the Parma Ham and melon appetizer which was very good the ham was excellent and the melon which was what we Americans call honeydew was perfectly ripe and delicious. That was so good and we still had more wine so we ordered the Smoked Salmon platter. The salmon was perfect it came with a salad which was good also. The service was prompt, friendly and very accommodating. He greeted us on the sidewalk and invited us in with a discount coupon. When we were finished we didn’t actually qualify for the 50 percent off the food but he honored it anyway. The place was nice and clean, the service was awesome, the food and wine were really good and the Jazz music playing on the system was really nice. Definitely a great place to go.

This place was nice near Covent Garden but not too busy. I don’t recommend the bruschetta appetizer — it was bread soaked in olive oil. The four seasons pizza was just ok. The service was good. Three stars for quiet location in a busy area but I would not recommend this place for the food.

We had to pass up on another great Italian on Endell St nearby that was overbooked and I was about to pass out, I needed carbs after a long day. As we couldn’t get in next door we succumbed to being stopped on the street, chugger style fashion at Café Mode with a 2−4−1 offer. There was also comedy downstairs too, apparently. April Fools! The Comedy was on the restaurant floor. Whilst we sat withering away, a fellow gentleman got increasingly irate as his request for the bill was thrice forgotten in the 30 minutes that we waited for our order. Another lady, also dining alone with so far a small white wine and the world on her shoulders, also had no better luck. After about 35 minutes as our hot plates were placed, she shrieked. I was here first! The poor love quite visibly famished, managed a passionate flamenco stamping her feet around the table, bemoaning she’d waited over an hour for her supper. I could have wept for her but as I looked down and saw not the seafood pasta dish I ordered but an impression of an Amatriciana, which was as hammy as the farcical service. The assembly of my plate was not even of pancetta but of gelatinous fat drizzled about some overcooked pasta, on which on a few strands of some stringy pink meat had anchored itself to escape from the dastardly goings on downstairs in the kitchen. To complain would have been futile if for the other two, getting the bill and some food took an hour. But I did. Either I’d have to eat alone after my date had finished or let his food go cold whilst waiting for mine. He sweetly offered me a forkful and in my mind canned laughter ensued. For what he had tasted unmistakably like canned spaghetti. We got the bill and were overcharged. The 2−4−1 it seemed, meant 2 servers for every 1 person in this jolly cock up of a café. Service here is not the fashion. Speaking of which, I assumed the speed of which we’d be served would have been quicker considering the slovenly way in which some of the waiters were sporting trainers with their waistcoats. We’d had enough and couldn’t bear to attempt the dire prospect of the comedy downstairs. The dining room alone was enough of a prank. I’d have thought this place was Greek with the way that waiters rushed around smashing glasses and plates left to decorate the floor around us, safety and service was all Greek to them after all. Perhaps this place is a front for something else as this team couldn’t arrange a piss up in a brewery. So if you want pasta I’d pass.

Omgggggg the vegetarian pizza here with roasted veg and olives on it was so so good. The tomato soup was nice too! And the mushroom risotto! Friendly too!

Café Mode has a great Bistro atmosphere and reasonable food at good prices. You can always get offers here, so the menu prices are often reduced. This is not part of a chain, so the quality of food and service can depend on who’s on duty that day, however its variety is one of the attractions. Recommended? Yes, because at least the restaurant itself will give you something to talk about.

Went here on a whim after another afternoon at the British Museum. They take the Tastecard and had non-fancy food for the Irishman. Sold. Let’s start with the negatives: –It’s small. The ceilings are low and it’s narrow and crowded. I’m not claustrophobic but I certainly didn’t want to linger. Aim for a seat by the window or on the patio if you can. –The burger meat was meh, chips definitely made from frozen, and salad from a bag with cheap dressing. –Booze is pricey -£5.50 is the least expensive small glass of wine. Positives: –The pizza was FANTASTIC. The Irishman got a spicy pepperoni pizza. I don’t do dead pig but the de-pepperoni’d slice I tried was incredible. The thin crust was perfect. The sauce was tasty. I would absolutely have it again. –The Mode Burger, while not the tastiest actual burger I’ve ever had, was cooked to perfection with a delicious, perfectly ripe half avocado plopped on top. –The service was quick and friendly. We got our food extremely quickly. –The music was phenomenal. It was a bit weird being served by a Frenchman in an Italian restaurant listening to Latin American beats but I loved it. –They didn’t require a reservation for the Tastecard; you can just go in and show the card. Plus, they have 2for1 pizza and pasta for everyone anyway, so you can get the Tastecard experience without a Tastecard.(Just get 2 pizzas, trust me.) If there was nice weather so I could sit on the patio, I would definitely return but stick with pizza.

I found this place perfectly acceptable for a reasonably priced meal out. Not too noisy in fact for about the first hour(we arrived at 7.00) we were the only people there. Staff seemed a bit vague about availability of the half price 3-course pre-theatre menu, when we rang first to check. Had the smoked salmon starter, which was a generous portion. My friends had the mozarella and cheese and both agreed they’d rather have had my choice. Roles were reversed when I looked at my meagre portion of mushroom risotto in comparison with their generous burgers and chips(but it was very tasty and wouldn’t shame a much more upmarket restaurant). None of us could manage a dessert, so the restaurant gave us all free coffee instead. Wine was inexpensive, so we ended up with a very affordable bill. No one tried to rush us through the meal, so a great evening all round.

Calamari Friti quite tasty but portion seems v small on a plain large white plate. The menu here looks quite ordinary and a little on the expensive for what it is side but I was offered 50% off if I ordered two courses on this rainy and not good for business day. It would seem though that it is always half price at Mode, the staff wear T-Shirts that say 2 for 1 Pizza on them. Could they not just put the actual prices on the menu like everywhere else? I’ve just eaten the tuna steak and it was actually very nice indeed. The cherry tomato sauce gave a great zing to it. The blonde girl that’s seems to be running the place is very charming and is drawing in business between serving and seemingly doing everything except the cooking. She has just made me a coffee«on my boss». I came in here thinking mediocrity and a 2 star possibly scrape a 3 I am now thinking it scrapes a 4.

I wasn’t that enamoured with Café Mode I’m afraid. I had a ‘Gourmet’ burger, and while the meat was ground well, it was flavourless, and the cheese and salad in the bun was a bit on the stingy side. The chips were good, with a nice relish/ketchup accompaniment, but the onion rings were straight out of a frozen packet I reckon. Prices were pretty steep for most things, and I’m not convinced the ‘bottled water’ wasn’t tap water in a bottle. The service was terrible. We were there on a Friday night, and it was busy, but the staff couldn’t wait to get us finished and out of the door, we felt REALLY rushed. Wouldn’t hurry back.

I think I’m only giving this a 3 star because of how simple my dinner was. Just the classic burger. If this were a burger joint, I would have given it a 2, but since this is a pizza/italian + some other fare place, the medium burger I ordered that came out well done gets a 3. Sure — maybe I’ll give their food another shot, but this place seriously bored my taste buds and they are demanding a no return =P I honestly think they’d be happier if I were to just guzzle a tube of ketchup from the comforts of my home. Service was friendly — and seems like a chill place to hang out without a doubt.

This restaurant used to be OK and then about 5 years ago, something happened. The pizza itself is mostly passable and can be very tasty on a good day, but service is hit-and-miss, the lighting far from relaxing and the drinks leave a lot to be desired. Most worryingly of all, the kitchen and storage areas looked dirty last time I visited, which really put me off returning. Shame really, as it’s a nice venue in a handy spot on one of my favourite streets in London!

Tried to use the Vouchercloud 2 to 1 deal on a Thursday night(which complied with all the terms and conditions) but they refused to honour it because they were ‘busy’. On principle, refused to eat there so can’t tell you about the food. A deal’s a deal and they should stick by it. They only get 1⁄5 as I can’t seem to select 0⁄5.

this used to be my local hang-out from work, but now its my local catch-up over nice food and a decent(yet cheap) bottel of wine with my friends. I love this place, the waiters can change and not always the best, but they always have a smile and are pleasant, and it can all be overcome with a couple of reminders and a little bit of patients(never a place when your in a rush) They always have offers on in this place, but I’ve never gone for them because the standard menu has lovely fresh food and its all a reasonable price, i.e. deal is never needed. The pizza bread with or without cheese a must to share as a starter — or a side order, along with a lovely fresh salad, pizza or paster… its all good Sorry I can’t remember the deserts here(i never have enough room, or maybe its the lovely drink ;-)) p. s. the owner here is lovely, top tip — get to know him and become a regular, he will make sure you are looked after

My friends and I were walking around the Covent Garden area after class to celebrate the end of the week. After a little while we were hungry, but we didn’t know where to eat. We spotted a woman in the street with a tray of pizza samples; we thought it was decent and there was a 2-for-1 deal, so we decided to head to the restaurant around the corner. We were seated pretty quickly as there weren’t many customers there at the time. I think there were only 2 – 3 servers at most, so we had to wait an additional 10 minutes for them to take our drink and food order. The starters came out quickly, but the serving was rather small in my opinion. The pizza was thin crust and it was really good for a 2-for-1 deal. We each ordered a single glass of wine or champagne and the bill came out to a little less than 43 pounds. I felt the price was a little steep, but I left happy with a slight buzz and content stomach.

Three hours ago I was treated like a Princess and dayum it felt so good as I’ve never had any sort of v.i.p treatment before! You can not go wrong with Café Mode(Italian) which is situated in the heart of Covent Garden. I was catching up with a family friend and was running 2 hours late(darn you public transport). Soon as I arrived the waiter greeted me with a smile and asked about my journey(sweet!). I love the warm cozy atmosphere and the staff are amazing! My friend is a regular customer and they treat her like family!(I hear they never forget a face). I ordered the calamari as my starter and oh my oh my it was divine! Portions was on point and taste was just fresh and the batter was crispy! I had the lamb cutlets and roasted veg as my main. We did not have to wait for very long I was well impressed! This is an experience I will never forget and the manager even offered us a drink on him! I will go back again and try their burgers. Fanstastico!

Great place for when you are out and about in Central London. It is friendly and welcoming. It has a great burger and good salads too, big and filling. The price is good, and if you book it with qype, toptable or tastelondon then it is 50% off food, which is fab! One piece of advice though, if you don’t want to order bottled water or wine, beware that it is tempting to open the bottles that are placed on every table without hardly realising. All in all, very good place for a casual meal.
