For a city lacking in continental style cafés Valerie is as close as one gets to one. The food is of a medium quality, beverages do not come up to today’s standards and seating and lighting don’t male for a very comfy atmosphere. Having said that in a way the Valerie represents a moment in London’s history. One of thos places stuck in the 80s, but really from the nineties.

Wanted to grab a pastry and sneak off to eat it elsewhere, but as I had plenty of time I indulged in sitting down at Valerie. Pastry here cost £3.75. Waitress brought me the bill incredibly fast(I’d barely had to forkfulls) but the thought of bringing me a glass to water to earn herself a tip never crossed her mind. My bottle of water might have had something to do with that, but nevertheless. I cannot stomach places who do not bring you water. Overall… seats are uncomfortable(stiff wooden chairs), tables crowded and small, and the place not too well lit, despite a certain abundance of windows. I’d go again, but only if Paul’s just up the street has run out of pastries and seats.
