Caldo is a great little Tapas bar that’s established itself in the Queens Park community, and is currently my drinking hole of choice, for an early evening pint. It’s a great alternative to a pub, as it has a real local atmosphere, with a real mix of customers in the early evening. Here you can find manual workers mixing with city guys, young and old dating couples and the odd yummy mummy thrown into the mix. Their Happy Hour is between 4.30pm and 7.30pm seven days a week. You can usually get a free tapas taster with your drink too. The staff are really friendly and mix and chat with the customers. There really is a genuine atmosphere of customers coming here to enjoy a drink and socialise. On a Monday they have a quiz night, and on Fridays the have a DJ and are open until 2am. I’ve not eaten here so cannot comment on the food, other than what comes out of the kitchen looks very good, and it’s a compact tapas menu. Caldo’s was recently included in Tatler Magazine Restaurant Guide as one of the top six Spanish bars in town. That shows how highly it is rated.

Great when it first opened in terms of food but its gone a little downhill since then in terms of flavour, size and also randomly being served substitutes instead of what was ordered. However the vibe is good and the menu selection is still pretty good, it’s a good choice when you don’t fancy a restaurant or a pub but something in between, drink selections are very good.

I stopped in on my way to the train station for a quick lunch. Green salad from the tapas menu as well as the couscous with veggies and garbanzo beans with Chorizo from the bar. All three were delicious
