After driving past this place countless times, I decided to investigate and see what the Candle Factory is all about. Located in a small building off Mare Street, the Candle Factory specialises in church candles and also offers regular candles in all sizes, including candles made of beeswax. Prices range between 50p and 40 pounds per candle. What makes this place special is that they also make candles to order so if you’ve always wanted to give that special someone a five foot high candle, this is the place to go. On a more practical note, if you are looking for a candle to fit that antique candle holder you found at a flea market, you will be likely to find it here.

On the side of a Greek church on lower Mare street is this funny little factory shop stocking almost nothing but candles. I lie, in fact, beside the multitude of sizes, scents and colours of candles, you will find lots of extremely kitsch Church iconography(including a bizarre red plastic crucifix) and some oil burners. But the main event is browsing the massive selection of beeswax, parafin, rose-scented, triangular or cylindrical variations of candles. Prices are low(£1.50 for 150 night lights) and the staff are very willing to chat given the relative dearth of customers.
