If you’ve seen ELF before, I felt exactly how Jovie did when she tried«the best cup of coffee in the world!!» except it was a crappy cup of hot chocolate. For those who haven’t seen Elf, catch the clips here — its short but worth it, I promise. (full 20 seconds) (at 25 seconds) OKOK, thats how I felt at first, but in hindsight, maybe I just got a bad cup. While I’m not a crazy chocolate lover, I do enjoy a good cup of hot chocolate every now and then. Once you get to having HC using some good quality fresh shaved chocolate and milk, you’ll never go back to the powdered sugary crap from Tesco! A week prior, I had some amazing double praline luxe HC from Rabot 1745(Borough market, highly recommended HC), and it was just divine. When I saw the Chocolata sign board for luxury hot chocolate at Brick Lane, the chocoholic bf and I decided we needed to give it a try. We opted for the Ferrero Rocher HC for 3.50 — I don’t know, maybe we had a bad batch. But it just tasted awful, like chocolate water, not chocolatey at all, zero hazelnut flavor. I saw the shaved chocolate go into the cup, but didn’t see anything else Ferror Rocher related go in — maybe it was already shaved and mixed in with the chocolate shavings? I’m not sure. What what I can tell you is that had no hazelnut flavor! While I can’t stand powdered hot chocolate because it tastes *too* chocolately and *too* godawful sweet, I would have rather they given me that instead! When we got to the bottom of the cup, there were massive globs of half melted chocolate, so maybe thats why it tasted like nothing. Maybe they do make great HC, and we were unlucky to have gotten a cup where none of that flavor came through at all.
