On a street that’s more takeaway than anything else, we were just happy to find somewhere to sit down. Imagine our surprise when we were served one of the best meals we’ve ever had in London! From the hummus(slightly. .. smoky?) to the kebab(oh my word it is delicious) to the salads(so many and soooo good) everything was incredible. Even our normally picky one-year-old was scarfing down the kids’ chicken shish. I would eat here any time(shame I don’t live here!) The service was London-normal(eh) and the tables were a little crowded together. But the food… (I heartily recommend the Chicken Shish with Yogurt)

There are plenty of Mediterranean meze on offer at Constolia, including Imam Bayildi(£4.25) — whole aubergine stuffed with mushroom, onion, red and green pepper, Yaprak Dolma(£4.25) — stuffed wine leaves with rice, onion, pine nut and currants, Humus(£3.95), Baba ghanoush(£4.25) and so on. We opted for the Falafel(£4) and Kalamar(£4.50) to start, both of which were good value and well cooked. We then shared another bargain from the menu, the Mixed Kebab — a selection of chicken shish, lamb shish, adana kebab, lamb spare ribs, chicken wings, chicken doner and lamb doner, served with a generous basket of bread, rice and salad for just £12.50. The Mixed Kebab was delicious — full of perfectly cooked meats grilled over the coals in the open kitchen. It’s plenty of food for two to share as main. I don’t know what the occasion was, maybe she just liked us but our lovely waitress then treated us to a rich, home-made rice pudding each on the house.
