Excited to arrive in England and eat Indian food again there — the place where my love of the cuisine began. Meal was okay and pricey … didn’t knock our socks off. Samosas were good but the rest was kind of bland and the price tag was steep … especially when I paid it off in dollars!

Good local Indian in Belsize Park. Food is always fresh and flavorsome. Can be a bit expensive but the food is good. My personal favorites are the vegetable balti and vegetable samosa’s. My husband enjoys the lamb balti and lamb bhuna. It is also handy they now do home delivery and that you can order online.

There are few restaurants that would stoop as low as Curry Manjil in terms of its poor customer service and lack of hygiene. I had my suspicions about this restaurant when I glanced through the menu which was riddled with typos. The ‘specials’ menu was not much better, although it was possible to buy a gerlic curry. I eventually bought a lamb and potato dish from the specials menu. When this arrived, I had to stop eating it after a few bites under the fear that I would contract food poisoning. The lamb barely tasted like lamb. It could have been mutton, but it would not surprise me to learn that it was something more sinister. Worse still, the lamb and the potato(shredded chips left over from the night before, possibly) had clearer been recooked using oil that tasted as though it had not been changed for a fortnight, if not a month. When drawing the attention of the staff to this, they got extremely aggressive and defensive(always a sign of a guilty conscience) and proceeded to argue loudly with me in front of their other about my refusal to pay for my meal. London food can be bad. But this is quite possibly the worst meal I have had in London, if not anywhere.

Great local curry place. They’ve been in business 40 years, so they must be doing it right! Everything tastes like it’s supposed to, and if you order takeaway it’s really quick(and 10% off if you pay cash). The tikka masala is really coconutty, if you like that; I usually order the vegetarian dishes, which are lovely. Proper amount of spice in the aloo gobi and Bombay aloo.

3.5 stars. A saucy curry is just what’s needed on a frigid London evening. Although we got lost a bit getting here we finally made it… on foot! Curry Manjill is a neighbourhood restaurant that offers a bit more in service and décor than some others and that’s reflected in the price too. Our server got brought us popadoms and pickles to nibble on whilst we perused the menu. We ordered a couple of curry dishes — lamb and chicken, some vegetable side orders, rice and parata. That was washed down with two bottles of ‘made in Britain’ Cobra beer. 60 pounds was to be expected at this posh-er Indian restaurant. It’s not bad, the service is good and if you don’t want to travel too far this is a good option.

Our local Indian take away and delivery. It is sort of pricey but they are very good and have been in business for 30 years which is a great sign. The restaurant itself is always full of patrons. I’m a fan of the mushroom bhajee, vegetable korma, and nan with a side of pilau rice. My hubby loves the chicken jalfrezi or rogan josh, aloo gobi, keema nan. We usually order enough food for four and end up eating it all between the two of us.

A decent local curry house, on a really nice street surrounded by lovely houses, lovely wine shops, lovely delis and lovely pubs! It was busy midweek at about 9pm which I thought was a good sign. The little touches like the elegant, modern crockery and presentation give this place an edge over other indians, but in terms of the taste of the food there wasn’t much to distinguish manjil from other places. The rogan gosht was very tomatoey and the ingredients used were fresh, but lacked any other flavour really and was not in the least bit spicey as it should have been. The lamb with fenugreek was a better choice and tasted, well, very lamby! But not especially indian. Ther service was friendly and although had a pleasant meal, I’ll keep searching for a really good curry before I head back here.
