Dans Island is the kind of place you walk straight past. It’s your standard Chinese take-away, a white counter, some menus, a bench. Strangely whenever I pass it’s always empty, which didn’t exactly entice me in. Then, after a heavy weekend of decorating and rearranging the house, I was desperate for something hot, possibly a tad greasy, and delicious. A friend recommended Dans to me and I am bloody glad she did. The spring roll fulfilled the ‘greasy’ requirement(possibly a little bit too enthusiastically), my prawn crackers actually tasted of prawns and not prawn flavouring, and both my egg fried rice and kung pao chicken were delicious. In fact so delicious that I devoured their very generous large portions of each in one sitting. Ok, so Dans isn’t going to win a rave review from Giles Coren any time soon, but it was ace and cheap. What more can you want on a Sunday night?
