This is one of South West London’s best kept secrets. If you’re looking for spices, grains, pulses, nuts or flours of any type then Deepaks has more than likely got you covered. If you’re looking for any Indian ingredients, from hard to find herbs and fresh vegetables to chutneys, sauces, ghee, pastes, whole spices. then Deepaks definitely has what you need in both individual and wholesale sizes. Even if you’re not looking for hard to find items, Deepaks is worth a visit as the prices often undercut those of major supermarkets by a country mile. On a recent visit, I bought large bags of black pepper, sesame seeds, chilli powder, cumin, whole cardamom and cloves and they were all less than 80p each. There are often multiple buy deals as well if you are looking to stock up. It really is a warehouse of dreams for the budding home cook.

Deepak Food and Wine is a store I wish I’d discovered before spending hundreds of Pounds at the big name grocery stores. Deepak specialises in Middle Eastern, Indian and Mediterranean foods. And is it cheap! You’ll find lots of interesting foodstuffs for around half the price you’ll find them at the nearest high street grocery store. Deepak is also a spice haven: their spice section extends along two lengthy aisles. They’re also really good for cheap fresh fruit and vegetables, though if there is one thing they fall a little short on it’s their selection of fresh meat. Deepak is a must do if you’re looking to fill your cupboards with food!
