Wonderful Bar with full liquor and snacks. They were able to craft an excellent Bloody Mary. Light house music. Free wifi. Nice snack menu and great service.

Used to come here quite often say ¾ times a month but haven’t been for about a year and a half.
Walked past this a place a couple of days ago whilst doing a spot of shopping and realised that it was time I reacquainted myself with the place.
First thing I noticed on entering was that they appear to have de-​cluttered the place and updated some of the decoration.
The waitress on duty greeted me pleasantly and I took a seat on the back wall. Café isn’t huge but doesn’t feel claustrophobic either. Menu was pretty much as I remembered it which means typical greasy spoon menu. I ordered a Steak & Kidney pie, chips and peas. I didn’t order a drink as I’d just had a coffee.
I might as well deal with this straight off the bat… at £7.50 it ain’t cheap!!! BUT its got to be borne in mind that this is central London. In the ‘burbs you’d probably pay around £4.20 for something similar.
No normal person is going to walk out of here having has a meal thinking I still feel a bit hungry as portion sizes are substantial.
My food was ready in no time and was served nicely hot.
Many cafes make a big deal over ‘home made’ rather than bought in. To an extent they have a point BUT its definitely worth remembering/​noting that YOU’RE home made might not be like their home made. I think that this was the case here. The pie was ‘home made’ and definitely had more flavour and texture than your average shop bought example BUT wasn’t 100% to my liking. I found the pastry a bit on the thick side and probably too much of it. Also I like a good sloppy sauce so I can dip my chips in it but found that it was a dry sauce hence to chip dipping. Although very common I would have preferred to see them use frozen peas rather than the canned variety.
Reading the above you might not think I liked the meal but that would be wrong. All things considered I’m surprised I haven’t been back for so long. A quality filling sit down meal in Covent Garden for £7.50 is great value when you consider that a takeaway sandwich and a drink can cost nearly a fiver.

Traditional old Italian diner from the days when normal people lived in the West End. A bacon sandwich with a generous rasher count for £2.50 what more do you need?

Diana’s is a rock-​solid, hole-​in-​the-​wall greasy spoon in the Bloomsbury district.
I was wandering, in search of a hangover cure and cheap breakfast. This place provided aptly. The Brazilian family that owns and works in it is very nice, and I was particularly impressed with the cashier/​waitress member of the team who had to deal with an incredibly rude, very particular, older British knob-​end. I almost intervened, but he settled down, and was handled with as much grace as the poor woman could muster. I don’t know if I could have done the same.
On weekends, they have a Brazilian special. I’m definitely going back next week to give it a try, as they seemed to be very excited to offer it.

Stopped in for a full English breakfast while visiting the city for the weekend. Not too far from the British museum, and was a little surprised to find it was not too busy when we got there. Soon after we got there, we were pleased to see a group of construction workers come in for breakfast — that’s always a good sign when looking for a greasy breakfast in the morning!
The full breakfast was good, with poached eggs made to order — soft, not overdone. The stack of thick toast was very good as well, and I always enjoy a nice English tea in the morning.

The fry up’s are the best especially when laden with the pink ketchup?!
Friendly staff and proper mugs of tea… yes!

You’re full English for £4.50 had me and Huddy toasty warm and fired up for an afternoon hard at work in the office. The colder the weather gets the more I love you.

Dodgy Di’s is a true dive, and I’m one bowl of tomato soup heavy on Worcestershire sauce away from proposing my undying 5-​star love.

It might seem silly to get worked up over a greasy spoon, but there really is something special about Diana’s. Can’t quite put my finger on it. It’s a bright and inviting little place that serves up a solid breakfast. The service is quick and pleasant, the street is great for people watching, and the prices is unfathomably low for Covent Garden. No frills, no pretense, and some darned good bacon.

We affectionately called this hole-​in-​the-​wall Dodgy Di’s as it was quite the greasy spoon. I have no idea which co-​worker started it, but most of the time we got meat lasagna and chips. The genius part was flipping the lasagna over the chips. OH MY GOD was it good and such a huge portion. Chicken escalope, veal escalope, bangers and mash are also good. The fresh squeezed orange juice is really good.
It was down the street from the office so we went about once a week. My last week in London, I went a few times. When I visited London a few months after I left, I HAD to go back for the lasagna and chips.
The space inside is pretty small so it fills up pretty quick during lunch. The service is friendly, especially the big guy who always goes «Hey Bella, How you doin Bella» to the ladies. Its a very greasy spoon so expect to smell like it when you leave.

When I was working near Seven Dials, I ate at Diana’s Diner almost every day — sometimes twice a day. It does an excellent fry-​up. The fried bread is of a particularly high quality, crisp and golden without excessive greasiness.
They also do salads and such if you like that kind of thing. I have no idea what they’re like — why would I want to find out when there are bacon and sausages?

I rate this greasy spoon. It stays pretty true to quick, basic British food in an area where most cafés/​restaurants have been modernised, touristised and delised. It’s always busy enough to have a bit of atmosphere but you can usually get a table and the food you want. The prices are cheap and are particularly good for pointless mathematical exercises, for examples how many Sheppard’s Pies can you buy for 1 pair of Diesel jeans? Answer: 27 at Diana’s.

Diana’s Diner whilst perhaps not remarkable is certainly one of the better ‘greasy spoon’ cafes in central London. It is located on Endell Street, in between Holborn and Covent Garden, and so perfect if you need to take a quick break from shopping.
The food is fairly standard stuff (the bacon sandwiches are great) but done well and cheap too, and the staff are pleasant.

Much beloved old fashioned working men’s café amongst the new-​fangled chain nonsense now creeping over Covent Garden. The walls are adorned with signed photos of stars, mostly actors and actresses, who have visited the café — a reminder of bygone theatreland days. Cosy and comfy.

I love this place — though I only ever have the same thing when I go so I can’t vouch for anything other than the egg, beans and chips. And the tea. The tea is great too. Lovely staff as well.
All in all, a great place for a fry up! (Though the produce is of dubious provenance — would be five stars if they did free range stuff).

Diana’s Diner is my favourite place in London to have a simple cheap English breakfast (despite the fact that it’s owned by a portuguese man). A full breakfast is around £3,95 and it’s right there, in Covent Garden, where everything is so expensive. The coffee is good and who doesn’t love a greasy spoon? (everything there is quite clean, actually). They also have some wooden tables outside, where it’s really nice to eat and watch the crowd when the weather cooperates.
