found this place completely by accident when i was turned away from strawberry moons, it was –3 outside, with icicles hanging from my nose, teeth chattering and with a party of about 15 i was greeted with a welcome from verry nice door staff. Inside the club it was WARM, nicely decorated and had a nice feel to it, even though it was busy and took 20 mins to get a drink. It also has a downstairs that stays open till 3am. overall — average priced drinks, good music, nice staff but gets very busy.

Went here for a friend’s birthday do — had our own little exclusive area(which caused some bother later on, but I’ll come to that) Initially, a rather interesting place — plenty of seating upstairs, and food served, that was being enjoyed by those consuming. The music was rather 80’s — and some groovy people were dancing in the rather limited areas between tables. Made moving around with drinks an interesting experience. Only lost a few mls of juice! Our party was in the basement — which had different music, a rather busy bar — took so long to get served that our half price drink voucher became invalid. Quite irritating, and made the evening rather expensive as it turned out. £3.80 for a bottle of beer is just too much really — later found out they were serving pints of beer for same price upstairs. Unfortunately, that draft beer ran out before 11pm, so back to bottles! Aargh! There were some positives aside from the drink issues. People all seemed to be having fun, and many seemed to have a little too much pop inside them. I haven’t been«down town» on a Sat night for a while, and I was quite surprised at the number of extremely intoxicated people, some of whom were determined to continue. I presume this bar attracts those who have had to leave other bars closing at 11pm, due to the late licence at this place. Back to the story of our«exclusive» area — towards the end of our evening some idiot decided that he wasn’t happy that we had our area. To this end, he smashed a pint glass right in front of 3 of our group — shattered glass all over the floor. A couple of our group rather upset. We had to sort this out, coz the bouncers, just 10 feet away seemed to be oblivious to these events. For this reason the place gets a 2 star review. If out in Soho, and fancy a drink after hours, maybe use this place — others suggest it’s better during the afternoon/early evening. All I know is that I don’t like a place that has idiots like the one I described in attendance, and I don’t like a bar running out of draft beer.

Digress gets points for being open after the pubs have shut. That’s always good. The atmosphere is ok — nothing particularly special, but it’s amply dark and kind of sexy, in a dirty way. Music is good and not too loud. Lots of seating space, even right after pub closing time, so, yay. Not so good — an old geezer hits on me the second I walk in(with my fiancé!). I guess it’s that sort of place. Then I order a Guinness and the bartender tells me they’ve run out. No proper English bar I’ve been to has ever run out of Guinness. Guess it’s not very proper, then, is it. So that was disappointing. Had to go with the Staroprammen. A good second choice. But sort of fun. Would go back for sure.

Anything goes in Digress, apparently even Atomic Wedgies! There’s been some raucous work nights out in this Beak Street pub and some have left with no underpants. With a great location and quality happy hour, what can you expect from office workers let out on the prowl?! Don’t go expecting a quiet drink on a Friday night, at least not if you see me in the vicinity! A bit of a Jekyll and Hyde bar, Digress serve a really nice lunch menu with proper meals as cheap as £5. Good mac and cheese and stonkingly tasty chips!

What can I say? If you’re looking for an affordable night out, this is a good place to start. I’ve been to Digress twice, and I’ll probably go again. The dj plays a decent mix of music, never favoring house over hip-hop or vice versa(unfortunately for me, I prefer r&b/hip-hop over house… but like I said, the dj caters to everyone). The bar service is fairly quick, although the second time I went, the credit machines went down. Everyone was paying in cash, and it slowed down the bartenders a bit. It took 20 – 30 minutes just to order tap water!!! Still, the drinks are affordable. And the crowd is extremely friendly.

I can’t imagine that Digress will have been noted for its sophistication or class but hell, you can have a good night here that won’t leave you shuddering at your drink receipts in the morning. The place has become much better recently — the DJ plays some amazing music ranging from cheesy pop to R&B to funky house — all my favourites fortunately. The bar service is quick & friendly and it always seems to be full of really nice people who are out only for a fun night. I booked a booth to secure some seating for a few friends and the drinks are great during happy hour — I would definitely recommend the cocktail strawberry clouds — they go down a treat! During the day the atmosphere is a little non existent but you generally find that with any bar. The food however is lovely and also at very reasonable prices.
