A wee gem of a sandwich bar. Always freshly prepared, generous portions and lovely smiley staff which makes a huge difference. A must experienced

Pretty darn good breakfast sandwich as posted by other reviewers. I had an egg, sausage, and english bacon sandwich on a very fresh soft round bun. They cook up the breakfast sandwich fresh after you order it — they even break a real egg for it. The hot options in the free breakfast in my hotel is very sad, so this was my best breakfast of the week. Open early enough for the morning commute. It’s very small, but there was no line when I got there so it was fast.

Having seen this place on Qype newsletters and guides as being a great place for a sandwich, despite not having had a review for a couple of years I thought I’d better go check it out! I had a wander over at lunchtime, looked through the window to see what I could spy, and then, realised I hadn’t got any cash, walked back towards King Street to the cashpoint! With money in tow I headed back, and walked in. I was greeted warmly by the chap and lady inside while he was frying escalopes and she was tidying the counters. I spent a good while trying to decide what to have before plumping for a peri-peri chicken & salad roll, crisps, drink and slice of their homemade carrot cake. The food was very nice when I got round to eating it. A bit better than average but not spectacular, but still better than most sandwich shops around here. However, when I went to pay, I’d noticed in the window about getting a free drink if your order came to more than £4, so I asked about it, and they seemed a bit confused, before kind of agreeing to it, then having a loud discussion in a different language about how much they should charge me. I got the general gist of the conversation to be that, though I wasn’t completely sure what was going on, but it did make me feel a bit uncomfortable. However it was sorted and I paid around a fiver for the above, which I thought was pretty reasonable, and the lady smiled and said thank you as I left. So, reasonable food, good price, but just a bit uncomfortable being in there, though I will probably go again, just to see if it was a one-off!

The best of the best of old fashioned sandwich shops. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and the best egg and bacon sandwich you can get your hands on. These guys know just the right amount of brown sauce to add, the eggs are cooked perfectly and even the granary bread is top notch. Good price for London too. Plus, on my way into work I’d like having a can of ginger beer to wash my breakie down with, and they always have a well stocked fridge of any can you could wish for.

This is your classic proper London sarnie shop. Just up the road from Pret and other chain shops full of business men, Doorsteps is where you’ll find the sandwich savvy workers of Hammersmith at lunchtime. They make the sandwich of your choice and stuff it with fillings and a bit of salad and it costs a price you don’t feel robbed paying. Tea comes in at the wonderful price of 70p. They also do a soup of the day, but it was sold out when I was last there, so it must be pretty good! Friendly old school Londoners run the shop and it altogether gives the feeling like you might’ve gone back in time to any point in the last 50 years.

Best place in hammersmith to grab a sarnie, they open at 6am and do a mean breakfast in a bap… bacon egg mushrooms tomatoes sausage the lot all in a massive bap… full of builders and dustman, lunch its full of suits for the avocado and bacon sarnies… take away but does have a little breakfast bar. The ladies who run this place are diamonds…1000 times better than pret etc… mean cuppa too.
