Amsolutely misserable evening. This place was recommended as a great jazz club where I could chill out after a long week of work, by the Meridian Hotel. The service could not have been worse. a full 25 minutes before I was even offered water at the dinner table, I had to walk Isabelle the waitress through all her steps only after having to flag her down for every step of my meal. I have never been so insulted in my life. Then, while there seemed to be jazz when I arrived; during dinner it turned into an obnoxious 1980’s dance club for middle aged folks. Absolutely horrendus. The food was okay — but the prices certainly not worth what they charge. Do not waste your time.

Dover Street has been running for years and it might be time for a re-vamp. It does get too full and squashed and the door policy is ridiculous — unless you are booked, you can’t get in, although that might be just as well considering the small size of the place. I’ve been to Dover St a few times because it’s one of a few venues that plays quite good music and is not full of teenagers! There are not enough places for the modern«older» crowd anymore and Dover St does it right in that respect. However, the dance floor is very small for the crowd and the place is far too expensive, for both food(which is ok but not fab) and drinks — and can get very hot! Also, unless you are eating late forget trying to find a seat until it’s nearly time to go home so you will be standing around in the middle of the bar with your bottle of wine or Champers! Not very classy, comfortable or practical! I would say It is a good Xmas venue for parties, despite the lack of space. I think the class of the place has deteriorated a bit over the years so am not as keen on it anymore, which is a shame because it’s got the general idea right for the slightly older crowd. I’ll still go though, only because there isn’t much else similar in London’s West End. If you know anywhere else like it, please let me know!

I was taken there for my birthday this month. here is what I think about it : the seating area … not that good food… disappointing band and music … nothing jazz was played and I could hardly hear the voices of the band members !!!(the guitar player was cool though) just like what Li-mei said in review … the 40 something guys dancing and flirting with the singer was so awkward to look at service … is the only thing I enjoyed on that night– they were so polite, nice and attentive definitely there are other jazz clubs worth going in London– but this one don’t think so

Went here with few girlies for a night out and had an OK time. There was a live band from around 10pm on a Friday playing Old Soul and funk numbers — which was great. Guess they finished by 11.30pm or midnight and then a DJ came on until late(or early 3am ish?) playing RnB current hits etc as well as old school ‘Choons’ We didn’t pay to get in as my mate knew the owner and we got guestlist, but I have to say that I probably wouldn’t have paid the £20.00 entry fee otherwise. Bit steep considering that’s just for entry. No idea how much the drinks were, although you can come here to eat and apparently they do great party packages with the live music etc. I’d quite like to see it on jazz night as I think that would be a totally different crowd. All in all, I had fun and danced around, but generally the crowd was a bit old for me(40’s +) and probably too expensive to become a habitual place.

We went here after a concert on a Friday night. Got there about 11 pm and it was in full swing(so to speak). We should have checked the schedule and seen it was funk night, but we weren’t that wise. Let’s just say that we were pretty amused by the clientele. The place was full of cougars and their prey. Everyone was dancing to remix’s of Kool & The Gang and falling over drunk. Take my advice and head to one of the other wonderful restaurants in this part of town. Unless you want dinner and a show. Then this is the place for you!

The one thing I can give this place a couple of stars for is it’s table service. The staff are very friendly and there is one rather charming older gentleman who is just the bees knees when it comes to being entertaining and sweet, in that old fashioned way. However I can’t say much about the food. I think it’s overpriced for what they are offering and it was just about edible. But only just. I went here last week with a friend as it’s on the Taste London list of restaurants that offer 50% off your meal. I still think that at 50%, I paid way too much for what I was served. As for the atmosphere, it really wasn’t my scene at all. Too much cheesy music and old men in suits trying to get some antique moves to woo the ladies. Needless to say, I didn’t bother sticking around for the live jazz. Watching 40-year-old men dance was enough entertainment for one night.

I’ve only ever been here fairly early on in the evening, before the music started, but I have to say that the drinks menu and atmosphere weren’t that inspiring. I’m sure it’s great if you go to see a particular act, but this is just a warning that it’s not a particularly lively place to go otherwise!

Are you an older guy having a midlife crisis? Are you perhaps a twenty-something girl, out on a Hen Night, wanting some drunken fun? Then THISISTHEPLACEFORYOU. I have a lot of affection for the Dover Street Wine Bar — really brilliant live music, nice food, well made drinks(mojitos are very good by London standards) and without a doubt, the best and most friendly door staff going. They have even laid new flooring and decorated since my last visit. The bands that play here vary quite a bit, so do check the Dover Street website to find out what you will be getting on the night you go. Sure, the only downside is the clientele, but you know what? They are probably saying exactly the same about me right now. And… when my midlife hits. I’m gonna spend it here!

I first went here about four years ago, and then again a few weeks ago. Unforunetly the place doesn’t seem to be faring as well as it once did, maybe I have become acustomed for venues of better value for money, the drinks prices certainly reach heights of the World Trade Centre. Alas, I did have a great night out, the people although of a generation above me were really nice and obviously up for a great night with no limits .(bank card included!) be sure, If your a girl wearing a pretty dress you wont have to pay for a thing. Yes, my type of night! Although I have never eaten here, my friends have, and I have only heard glorified statements which even Jamie Oliver would kill for… But please watch out for the steps! don’t drink too much, as the toilets are too be found after walking done many scary steps, which I can only imagine acts as in invitation to A&E

Possibly one of the most famous Jazz clubs in London offering live Jazz and blues, good times and good food. Ideal for an intimate dinner for two or a pre theatre /night out, this bar is open late and has over the years provided many good nights out. Not hip and trendy by any stretch, more thirty — 40 year olds which suits me, no nappy changing facilities anyway. Hold on though, My recent visit was not as good, what has happened to it? Prices seem to have risen sharply since I was last there and the quality of food has dropped considerably. It also appears to have got a nasty edge to it, Staff and doormen seem to be unhappy with life and are strict and insincere? — maybe it is struggling, I hope not as it has always been a fun place to go. Does a lot of theme nights /corporate do’s and I noticed last week some special offers were advertised. A mixed review for this one — was always a great place to go but my last visit was not as good as I remembered, fingers crossed it was just a one off. Free to get in early on — circa £10 thereafter.
