From the outside, the Duke of York looks like any classic old-school pub(especially when alighted for the holidays). Upon entry, however, it’s obviously been redone, with a smart looking«modern farmhouse» scheme. Bright and welcoming. Simple and sleek. It’s also not a huge space. A decent, open bar surrounded by some open tables in an open-feeling room. The barkeep was friendly and they seem to offer a modern take on pub fair(though I didn’t eat and nor were others munching). It seems they could use some momentum in that category. But otherwise, I found it a fine place to which I’ll happily stop by if needing a social break in the nabe.

I was initially unimpressed with this pub. I found it to be a bit pokey. It’s small and the layout doesn’t help somehow. I came here to watch some sport and my initial thought was that that would be the only reason why anyone would want to come here. But I stayed for a while and got chatting to some of the locals who, apart from the fact they were drinking Stella, seemed quite nice. The bar staff too seemed quite cheeky and I left having enjoyed myself after all! Serves real opposed to the imaginary stuff :)

We visited this pub on a Thursday evening for their weekly quiz evening. Unfortunately, this pub is extremely small(size of a living room is about right). As we did not book a table, we were forced to share a stool at the bar all evening. If you’re going to the trivia, I recommend that you book a table. There is a limit on team sizes with only 4 members allowed on each team. We were a bit disappointed to see that this was not strictly enforced(some teams had at least 6 people). Mostly disappointed, as we found the questions quite challenging and would have benefited from a bigger team.(Sour grapes?) Probably won’t return to this pub’s trivia evening. Food was traditional hearty pub fare with the meal sizes being more than adequate. Good variation on the menu although my veggo friend complained that there were only a couple of options available. Bar staff were extremely friendly and dealt with the crowded pub very well.

The Duke of York is a brilliant pub located directly off Edgware road on a surprisingly quiet residential street. The pub is really quite tiny only comprising of one room — about the size of my living room. This shouldn’t put anybody off as this is one of my favourite pubs; outdoor seating is available and is great during summer. What makes this a really great pub is the food which is served all day; my personal fave is the sausage sandwich with gravy, really brilliant. To top it off the atmosphere is really friendly and intimate. This is a really lovely pub– quiet and intimate, really worth a visit if you don’t know it.
