While my room was not the best the hotel is in a fantastic location for the price. Close to Hyde park and good shopping areas and tube stations. I was too tired to complain as I was only here one night, but do be wary of the room you get shown. Mine was on the ground floor and is very noisy and very shabby and dated. The hotel itself does have a lovely old world charm and the bars and eating areas looked very nice but I didn’t get to try them. I’d return if the price was right and I would avoid the lowest class of room if you are really particular about aesthetics as these are in need of updating. Staff were very helpful and friendly.

Twenty-five years ago, at the recommndation of a friend who lived nearby, we stayed here for a week on our honeymoon. At the time, we observed it wasn’t really a honeymooners joint, kind of a place for business meetings. So on our anniversary this month(August, 2014), we returned. The rooms are way too tiny for the price of the hotel, and Durrant’s lacks any elegance or old world charm. There must be 1,000 hotels in London better than this. In terms of location, the neighborhood around here has deteriorated markedly in the last 25 years and when we came back late at night the front door had a metal bar on it, so you couldn’t sneak in and out if you wanted to, but judging from the crown on nearby Edgeware Blvd, you probably wouldn’t want to. We stayed in some sketchy neighborhood in Paris and would have felt safer than around here. Not near the train station, nor Harrod’s, so why even consider Durrants. The reasons for its continued existence escape me.

We booked here on the advice of the bride to be, who lives in the area… they stayed here 2 nights as well as prep for their wedding, we were here 3 nights Yes its like going back in time, there are many rooms here I believe and reception is buzzing it seems all the time… almost too much for its small area, however we found the service here really wonderful. They bumped us up to a nicer room upon arrival and we found a very pleasant accommodation, high ceilings, very tranquil, nicely appointed with old fashioned and modern combination: newly redone bathroom. Gets award for BEST makeup mirror ever, can I get one of these for home please? We had some trouble w. the safe but they arrived pronto as well as delivery of iron and board. They are quick to help with a taxi and umbrellas are plentiful. The breakfast room is an old fashioned wooden panel affair: the service is very good but the food just so so.(we went out to eat at La Fromagerie just up the street, see my review and were happy as clams. Also on Sunday there is a nice farmers market behind the hotel. We almost had a meltdown when we could not find the address of the wedding hall and they were totally there for us, doing the research to get the info we needed to call the city hall to see if our couple was on the dockette! Best of all, when we purchased ceramics locally they told us they could wrap them for us and have Mailboxes come and pick up!!! These arrived home faster than we did(STL, MO) and I have never seen such great packing. We only had one issue: Internet! Did not work for 2 days while we were there and this really cramped our style. The fee, high in my opinion, was comped. Hotels should offer FREE wifi, period! We would compare this hotel with one of our favorites ever: the Drisco in Pacific Heights in San Francisco. Thanks Durrants!

A stay at the Durrants is a little bit like going back in time, from the hairdryer mounted on the wall(only a picture can help you understand this one) to the old timey keys and narrow hallways. Those who appreciate an old world experience will dig Durrants. Those who prefer white duvets and modern amenities like wifi will not. Fresh off an early morning train, I rocked up at before 9:00 and they hustled to get me and my bags to a room as quickly as possible. When you’re exhausted, that means a lot. Service here could not have been any better. Eating and drinking options near the hotel are plentiful though the best is certainly Defune(where I met a fellow hotel guest who said he’s been coming back to the same room at the Durrants for over two years) if you crave sashimi. As well, the nearest Tube station at Bond Street is a short and direct(as in, impossible to get lost trying to find it) walk. Monocle magazine led me here(their shop is on the same block) which, after a three nights stay, kind of surprised me. I probably wouldn’t chose Durrants again for the basic tenets of a dream hotel stay for me do not include beds on wheels that threaten to slide out from under you while you work on your laptop in bed nor musty room smells nor scratchy blankets.
