So far the best bread I ate in London. Even better than Gail’s franchise, or Paul. And I did not see any Maison Kaiser or Poilane my usual benchmarks. A busy place all day long so just be patient. Bread heaven is here ;-)

Always try to stop in when I’m in the area. Situated right by London Fields station, this joint makes excellent coffee and has a tasty selection of counter food as well as easy hot food like soups and toasties(yummm). I do believe they bake everything on site(they also run bread making lessons). There are few seats both inside and out, they’re always super busy though so good luck! I highly recommend the lemon polenta rosemary cake. Mmm… Nom nom.

I traveled across entire London to check if the reviews were true. I had a pizza which turned out excellent — delicious, true craft quality dough with tasty, fresh toppings. After that I tried the famous sourdough and some cookies. Everything felt 5 star, especially eaten in a sunny park on a lovely spring afternoon. E5 is a no brainer for any bread afficionado!

New neighbourhood, new baker, and what a baker. I’ve heard about E5 even before moving here, and oh my, after having tried their croissants, pains au chocolat and Wholemeal bread, they deserve their reputation. No doubt. Staff is super friendly & sitting here sipping a capuccino watching those guys work at the back could really become a habit. Looking forward to taste their 7£ pizzas, baked every sunday… oh, and they organise classes!

Julia D is obsessed with E5 Bakehouse and I came along while we were in the area. Despite the name the postcode is E8 and it is located under one of the arches near London Fields Overground. It has a huge space but 75% of it is given over to the kitchen with only a small inside space and a few seats outside at which to eat. Despite those limitations the space is a good one in which to relax and grab a snack. Sunday is pizza day and they also do baking classes which although pricey look like they are worth doing.

To further my obsession, I came back on a Sunday to try their pizza. It was honestly one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. I ordered their plainest one. It had tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, and arugula. The sauce was salty sweet, the crust was perfection. I was not that hungry when I showed up, but it was so delicious, I ate the entire pizza. In love!

I am French but this is the best bread I have tasted so far in London. I highly recommend the loaf with raisins and wazelnuts and if you are going to sit for coffee and sweets I recommend you to choose the whole bun which they serve with butter and all sorts of jams. What I love about it? They use organic and locally sourced products. At the moment, they also train female refugees from Syria how to bake bread and you can support the programme by buying 3 loafs per week and picking it up on Tuesday. Ethical, delicious, what else do you need? Just go!

Once you’ve had the bread here you can never go back to eating any other bread. I’ve been buying bread here ever since my first loaf.

I went down to this fab place a week ago to attend a bread baking course which was a gift from Christmas! They hold them every week but you have to book ahead in advance because it’s so very popular! The breads you make on the day is usually a Rye, Sourdough(hackney wild), ciabattas and bagels! Somehow we make them all ourselves as a group and they taste incredible! So happy with the course but the lunch was great, as was the coffee so it was obvious that this is a full functioning superb café that I will visit time and time again!

Fantastic place for lunch if you’re in the area, wonderful soups and of course the bread is special. The Hackney wild is excellent but always check if they have anything new available. The real specialty is on Sunday when they make their pizza. This is the only day they do it and it’s extraordinary, wonderful homemade crusts with different toppings each week I’m almost hesitant to add this in case the lines get any longer on Sundays!

The hackney wild is a great bread really tasty for toast or making sandwiches. I also enjoyed the multi-seeded bread and the heritage bun is a fantastic treat. I tend to pick my stuff up after a run but there seems to be a good menu for lunch, pizza’s on a sunday, nude espresso coffee but it is always busy and the space is pretty tight.

Lovely little café in a great location under the railway bridge outside London fields. Ordered a pot of tea for £2 and was very good quality. Would definitely recommend people to come here, the bread and pastries look amazing! Only downside I could see was they didn’t have a customer toilet — I could be wrong on that though

Breads, pastries and cakes galore. all of which look delicious and those I have sampled are! Have been here for cake and coffee twice recently, both times service and food lovely! The breads are simply yummy, however are expensive circa £4−6 a loaf. They specialise in sourdough-nom! There are seats inside and out and it is always busy! Had the best cinnamon Chelsea bun I have ever had here :)

I can’t imagine anyone ever giving E5 Bakehouse anything less than 5 stars. It is, hands down, some of the best bread I’ve ever had in my life. A lot of restaurants near here sell it as well, or serve it with their food, and you can always tell when it’s from E5 Bakehouse. The multigrain is my favourite, but there are loads of options! I have three supermarkets nearer to me than this place, but I always go out of my way — even early AM with a hangover — to get bread from E5 instead. They’ve just started doing breakfasts on the weekend which I haven’t tried but they look good! Realistically though, totally unnecessary, just eat the bread.

It’s really hard to go back to store-bought bread — or bread from any other bakery/store, for that matter — after trying out E5. Because of the crowds and our schedules, we haven’t had the chance to sit down and try to enjoy a meal. But if we did, I’m sure it’d take ages to get a seat, which in general is a positive sign(unless you hate people). We’ve tried both hackney wilds(white and brown), the seeded rye, Russian rye, multigrain and a bread-type of snack(at the moment, have forgotten the name — sorry!). All are fresh, soft and so delicious! Whatever type of bread you like, they’ll definitely have something to your taste. It can get hectic, so it’s helpful that they label all the bread and list each ingredient so you can get an idea of what the bread will taste like. You simply MUST visit if you’re around London Fields!

I could drone on about this place, but basically, the bread here is great! I usually don’t eat much bread, but the multigrain loaf was incredible. You know, the kind you want to eat WITHOUT butter or jam or anything. It’s just simply divine. The place was kind of small inside, difficult to get a place to sit and eat. There was a father an son who had ordered a cheese and onion pizza that I almost snatched off of the child’s plate, but it was difficult for them to eat amongst all of the people in the queue. Best for grabbing and going if you find yourself here on a weekend. Kinda hard to find, but worth the search.

Ah ha! I discovered this place on one of my favorite websites, . E5 got a great write up featuring excellent food photographs. I was instantly captivated and then I discovered it was two miles from my temporary residence. You can find E5 near London Fields. I hoped to get bread and my friend was hoping for food. They do have a small café and they serve from 12−3pm. Besides their bread varieties, they also had madelines and, I think, pralines. I ended up inquiring about their day old bread and purchased the multigrain over their raisin & walnut. I can’t wait to try the breads for my friend purchased. Overall, it was a great experience. I hope to be back to enjoy their café. It’s fascinating that customers have a few of their operation also. Such a great location.

Quite good bread. Pricey but ok, and at least unlike the stuff sold on Broadway Market stalls it’s very fresh. Staff can be a bit smug, and some of them seem to have dubious personal hygiene. I’d rather that the person handling my loaves hadn’t just scratched his nose, thanks very much.

The E5 bakery has gone solo and now occupies a different arch along Mentmore terrace. It’s a cavernous space with loads of bakers baking away. They seem to bake loads for local businesses as the amount of produce on sale is not very much considering how many people are working there and how much bread seems to be created. They do baking courses too and I have often seen loads of people learning to make bread in there on a Saturday morning. They serve coffee and some juices but this place is not café. Their bread is wonderful and at about £3.50 for a freshly baked and often warm sourdough or Hackney wild loaf, it’s where I’ll be picking up my bread in future. Just a note, they really do only do bread(in a variety of styles) so if you want cake you should pop next door to the Happy Kitchen.

I signed up for a bread-baking course in late July at the E5 Bakehouse. Prior to this, I wanted to make sure that they actually do know their trade and so I made a trip to East London. The bakery is hidden away in one of the railway viaducts next to London Fields, but thanks to the Unilocal App I found it rather flawlessly. When I walked in, I immediately liked the unpretentious feel to this whole place: it’s all about the bread-making and the selling of customer goods actually comes only second; in fact, there was at first no-one attending to me, so I had to call out for«assistance». Once«help» had arrived, I asked the man for his opinion on the breads on display. In the end I went with a whole-meal, multi-seed bread: it not only smelled fantastic, but tasted even better! Now I really can’t wait to participate in the bread-baking seminar!
