Having enjoyed a superb lunch here previously after bringing my friend here for her birthday treat, I decided to book my company’s Christmas dinner party here and it was an excellent choice. What I particularly liked is the round table seating arrangements. I wish more restaurants used this configuration instead of square tables, so much better for groups to chat, round a table, makes the dining experience much more sociable and enjoyable. The main dining area in the restaurant is relaxed and bright, and our tables overlooked the terrace area, with a long settee seating used as a divider to the other part of the restaurant, so a really great use of space, giving exclusivity to your party. The food portions were on the small side, except the mains which were a decent size, but the quality of the food was sublime, so more than makes up for the smaller quantity. We went for the Prestige Set Menu which had pigeon, pumpkin soup, salmon or goat’s cheese as starters, and for the mains either the turkey, sea bream, game pie or risotto, with sides all served to the table of tiny roast potatoes, brussels sprouts and market salad. With choc brownies, cheesecake or Christmas pud for desserts, followed by coffee and mince pies. Three and a half hours of a very enjoyable Christmas dinner party. Then after the dinner was over, you felt very welcome to stay as long as you liked, and never pressurised or feel you have overstayed, even into the wee hours of the morning. The service was efficient and prompt, except on arrival, our area, tables and welcome drinks were not ready, but understandable when the previous customers had left later than anticipated after their lunch party. However, after that slight delay, the service cannot be faulted, very friendly, calm and unobstrusive. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I visited the Eight members club near moorgate yesterday for a lunch meeting and left feeling well looked after, and well fed. The entrance is a little odd, you have to walk into a courtyard and then up a lift which only has a button for floor 8 button inside… now the name becomes clear. We had a very civilized lunch, scallops with lentils and chorizo, followed by mushroom risotto with truffle. It’s a great place for a lunch meeting — tables nicely spaced apart, quiet, but not dead. Whilst I saw a couple of the private rooms, I didn’t venture further into the club so can’t comment, but if I worked nearby I would consider membership.
