I go to Illy relatively frequently whenever I need to catch up with friends after church on a Sunday. So far, my experience has been average overall. They have a good selection of coffee, ranging classics to hot specials to cold specials, including my favourite, affogatos. Their coffee is solid — relatively good portions and flavourful. However, I wouldn’t say it’s the best coffee I’ve had. Better to think of it as a place where you can’t go wrong rather a place that stands out from the others. I also tried their food(penne arrabiata), and I must say I was a bit disappointed. For almost GBP6, the portions were small and my pasta was dry and tasteless. I would have been better off getting McDonalds across the street. Having said that, they have a reasonable selection of pastas, sandwiches, etc to choose from. Ambience is quite nice. High-ceiling with a second floor as well for more intimate space. Finally, service is relatively good with the servers quite prompt in serving you and sometimes, even chit chatting with you. Overall, solid but not a wower.
