Give this man your business! Espresso Base is a temporary coffee station located in the grounds of a church in Bloomsbury. It’s run by an amazingly friendly Sicilian man with a passion for what he does. The first time I came he inquired about my coffee preferences and made some recommendations based on the blends he had available(he serves Has Bean coffee). He typically serves very smooth, nutty, blends. Unfortunately, I don’t get to come here often enough, but always makes an effort to demonstrate that he appreciates your business. He is open weekdays from 8am to 6pm. If you are in the area, you should definitely check it out.

Phenomenal coffee and phenomenal service at this really cool little outdoor café run in a tiny old churchyard. I would drink here every morning if I could.

What a find! Espresso Base is normally open weekdays from 815⁄830 onwards, but we managed to catch them on a Saturday afternoon, taking full advantage of the trade being generated by the London Open House. They use a La Marzocco and Has Bean beans and pull a truly mean espresso. We had a chat with the owner — a very engaging Italian — who really knows his stuff, having previously worked at one of the several Flat Cap carts dotted around our fair city. Gennaro — the owner of this cart — is ultimately the other thing that makes you want to come back. He’s fizzing with energy and clearly passionate about his work, explaining to us the intricacies of his Has Bean ‘Jailbreak mk4’ blend’s flavour profile. Not content with pulling espresso-based coffees(… see what I did th…) to match the big hitters of of the area like Wild & Coffee, T&P and Store St, you’ll receive charming and interesting conversation to take away with you too. What more could someone ask for? Oh yes… did I mention his single espresso is ONESINGLE pound sterling? Not since the first time I walked out of Kaffeine back in 2009 have I had such an all-round good quality coffee experience. The man is a maestro, and I am certainly going to be a new regular. With lots of seating and plans to put up outside heaters in preparation for Autumn/Winter, there’s no excuse not to visit if you’re in the Bloomsbury/Holborn area. Just make sure you greet the owner with a smile and a cheeky«Heyla’!», and you’re in for a treat…
