No reviews in over a year? Quite frankly I’m aghast at the low ratings from others — that was not my experience at Faulkners. I took a £30 cab here and when I mentioned where I was going, I didn’t even have to source an address — the driver just said«Oh, so you’re ready to have a proper plate of fish ‘n chips, are you?» Why yes, yes I was. This was absolutely the best fish ‘n chips I’ve ever had, and even though I was full to bursting after such a large meal I was tempted to order another plate to go. I dined with a longtime Londoner who assured me this was going to be a great meal and she was right. Mushy peas, crispy and chewy chips, and a honking portion of haddock or cod(can’t remember which I had). Also, the sticky toffee pudding was otherworldly and you’d be a fool not to order it!

Great fish for take away, fresh and nice batter! I’ve had a meal in their restaurant as well but felt the atmosphere was boring and would rather have taken the meal home!

Definitely not worth the dine in prices(which are double the takeaway-literally) But, it was cool to be able to order each fish the way you wanted it .I think it was between battered, pan fried, or baked. That was a nice touch. Meh. I’d go here for takeaway… not worth 10 pounds for the fish and chips«dine in» option but I thought the fish was aiiight!

I have a little fishy on a little dishy… Faulkners the restaurant is what every fish and chip place should be like. They serve up mushy peas, bread and butter, extra crispy bits on your fish, and all in a fabulous setting that hasn’t changed in 20 years. There are a couple of things I’ll mention: First off, they need to fry their chips for longer. Always ask for them to double fry them. Chips should not be white/yellow. They also have expensive prices. Up North they would blush at what they charge for a fish and chip portion here. But saying that, I still think this place is amazing. It’s authentic without even trying. You’ll see little old ladies dining in here like they have done for years. They also have a killer specials board which has a great selection of fresh fish daily. Finally, they have fish cakes that are so fishy and so cakey that it brings tears of joy to my eyes. Tears of joy…

One of the best fish and chips place I tried. I had their haddock and cod. Very well fried, juicy and hits the spot. Their chips are very nicely fried, very mashed inside, but it can be crispier. They are relatively cheap and they are also located at the ghetto. I guess thats where you find good fried food. It’s only take away here and it’s well worth it. You must try! The End.

Not the restaurant it once was, and the take away is now very poor. Family owned for many years, the current owners have been there for at least 8 years… and you can definitely tell the difference ! I used to work nearby, and use the restaurant a couple of times a month, and sometimes get a take away. Fish was always cooked to order, which meant it was very hot, with a crispy batter… and very fresh. Chips were always very good. Unfortunately standards have slipped, quality is now no better than any local fish and chip shop in the area, I will not be going back any time soon.

I’ve had probably 30 takeaways over 10 years of normally very good f & c’s — if you can wait 10 mins it’s well worth getting something not in the heater so cooked to order.

I have had take away fish and chips from here a few times in the last couple of years, and I’m guessing this place is not the institution it once was because every time I’ve eaten here the food has been poor. Definitley not the best Fish and Chips in London or probably even East London… and a bit pricey too!

After my recent visit at the take away when the F&C me and two friends ordered were soaked with oil and nearly not adable, I gave them a second chance. At least the cod was freshly prepared, was tasty inside and had a thin crusty batter, the fries were again oily, muddy and surely not fresh. For me, their 12 to 5pm £6.99 offer(F&C and a can of drink) is too expensive. I’m not going to come back.

I’m home alone and can’t be bothered to cook. I feel like indulging myself in fish and chips. I jump in the car — let’s face it if you’re going to get fish and chips, being healthy and cycling is not really an option — and head up the road. At the junction I have to make a decision… turn right and enjoy the tasty, yet slightly slimey in a good way massive portions of Faulkners or go left and drive slightly further to Victoria park’s swankier Fish House. Decisions, decisions… so tonight I chose Faulkners and twas rather good. Well I ate the lot anyway. Always take away though, not that the restaurant is bad but you’ll pay more and it’s not particularly special.

I have been coming here since I was little and it is in my opinion, the most authentic and traditional fish and chip restaurant in London. A bit on the pricey side, but well worth it. The batter is light and crispy, the fish tender and the chips slightly soggy(even before you smother them in vinegar) They have decent mushy peas, The restaurant has a very old-fashioned atmosphere– it is dimly lit with a huge tropical fish tank. The place is full of old couples, workmen and when we went, a group of retired stunt men. Their takeaway fish and chips are excellent.

I had walked past this place every day on my way home from work, wondering what it was like, rekindling childhood memories of chips, mushy peas and curry sauce(i grew up in the west country). One particularly hungry evening, myself and a friend decided to pop in for some grub. Nice chunky chips, a bit stingy on the vinegar even as my eyes bore a hole in her hand, but good. I am assured the fish and battered sausage was amazing, and it’s nice to have the option to eat in or take away. It’s always nice to fine somewhere that serves the traditional dishes kids of the British towns grew up with, and this place is just that. Great for nostalgia, or just for a decent bag o chips!

Faulkners is a must for hungry people who love fried fish and chips. Its part of the local area’s history, I know folk who report going here for many, many years, some of them were children, who now take their own kids there. It used to be family owned(The Faulkners) I am told, but was taken over a couple of years ago. Some say they notice the difference, others don’t seem to mind. The Haddock, Chips and mushy peas that I had very lovely. The batter light and crispy and the fish fresh and cooked to perfection. The staff are pleasant and polite, but they can’t be said to have an eye on the ball they brought meals, meant for others, forgot to bring a side dish for someone at our table, said we hadn’t ordered it, when we showed her the table order, she had indeed written it down! Not good really. It wasn’t so busy. However, I ate there one lunchtime, a few weeks later and was really disappointed, the batter was so brown, I asked for it to be changed and the cheeky sod asked me to pay for the new portion. A worthy note: despite cooking the restaurant’s food in the frying area of the take away — the price hike between the two in Jy-normous Advice: Order to take away, watch what goes into the paper, complain if required before they wrap it and you have paid! Living on it’s reputation. .
