This is an unusual type of hotel that cannot easily be classified. Few of the trappings of a normal hotel exist, and in some ways it is a hostel, but better than that name suggests. There is no reception and you have to use an entryphone system to call the only staff member you are likely to see, who comes quickly and takes you to your room. I was accomodated in the annex at 35 Tottenham Street, very close to the main address in Charlton Street. The annexe seems to be mainly single rooms. A single room is very small, with a wardrobe and a folding table, and a basic bed. The bedding is a quilt, which means that in hot weather your only option to avoid being too hot whilst still covered, is to remove the quilt from the cover and use the cover as a sheet. Most hotels seem to use inflexible quilts these days. The room is adequate if you are not going to spend much time in it. There is a TV. The big problem is that you do not have a private bathroom. The room does not even have a washbasin. To visit the lavatory therefore you need to dress, which is far from convenient. The shower rooms are tiny but close to the bedrooms. They work well, and are clean, but space is very limited indeed. Breakfast is included and this is quite a plus point for the place. An airy breakfast room is available and there is a communal kitchen. Help yourself to bacon, continental sausages, eggs, cereals, toast jam and fruit. Do the cooking yourself, all utensils are provided. The bacon was of excellent quality and you can eat as much as you like, at whatever time you wish. This system relies on guests to wash up after their meal, which seems to work. It also relies on guests to follow good food hygiene practice and there is no way to guarantee this so you should ensure your bacon is well cooked. There is no supervision by staff. I like this place especially for the breakfast. They do offer more upmarket rooms as well as the single rooms.
