Growing up with a Japanese mum, I was fortunate to have fried rice and other East Asian food on a daily basis. Both potatoes AND rice became comfort food. So I judge pretty harshly when I try Chinese food. I am a fan of duck, so I tried both the duck fried rice and the duck dish. Both were delicious, not overly greasy as some fried rice can be. The duck was tender and flavourful. The owner is quite friendly, and the food is always hot and delicious. My wife and I now consider this our one stop for Chinese in NW6. To the other(US) reviewer of this place: perhaps consider that, whilst visiting West Hampstead, you’re not actually IN America anymore, are you? ;)

Its Chinese take out… how can you go wrong? The bf and I were looking for some late night grub and stumbled upon this place(pretty much because it was open late… I want to say we got our food around 10:30pm?). Anyways, we ordered and were really excited for what we thought was going to be the big portions that we’re used to in the States… you know, in the little cartons. Haha, anyways, we were a bit disappointed with the size and for what we payed(2 small soups, 2 piece veggie egg rolls, chow mein, and kung pao chicken for 17 or 18 pounds)… about $ 25USD. This would have been fine if we had some leftovers… but sadly no. I hate to make the comparison, but I think I prefer Chinese take out in the States. Make no mistake though; Fortune Gate is good and very convenient if you want a late night meal to go!
