A really nice restaurant, not expensive at all but with a great selection of fresh food! Menu of two or three courses, from veggie plates to fish and meat! Olive oil is served with focaccia as amuse-bouche and the service is fast and efficient too. Really try these different tastes, with a nice view on Bedford Square Gardens

I’ve been to Gail’s Bakery a few times, but had no idea they opened restaurants too. A little bakery empire Gail is running, it seems. When I arrived, I noticed it is attached to Central Working and a hotel so don’t be surprised to see a lot of earnest hipster types tapping away on their laptops. I took a peek at the menu before my friend arrived and thought ‘small plates? Oh god’. I hate small plates, or tapas as they like to describe them. To me it just feels like overpriced tiny food that they ‘advise’ you order a few of ‘to share’ and you end up spending way more than you wanted to. I don’t know if any of these small plate restaurateurs have ever been to Spain, but tapas are cheap! I ordered the beef onglet with potatoes and the burrata in flatbread. They brought a plate of focaccia and brown bread with olive oil and butter first. Oh the focaccia was divine! I could’ve eaten a whole loaf with no regrets. My burrata in flatbread was a pretty good small dish and the beef onglet was small indeed but beautifully cooked with aioli and a few crispy potatoes. As small plates go, they do them exceptionally well, in my opinion. We finished with the fresh baked cookies and a tiny glass of milk. The bill came to over £50, which is kinda steep for what we got.

Gail’s Kitchen is officially my new favourite brunch spot. I ordered the pork bun with bacons on the side, together with homemade lemonade and cappuccino. My pork bun was so tasty and flavourful that I could not put my fork down till the very end. The perfect balance of mayo and bbq sauce added a lot to the experience. My bacons on the side were phenomenal too — uniquely and perfectly grilled to add a salty palate to the overall brunch. I loved the ambience — simple yet sophisticated. The adjacent Gail’s bakery also added to the feel of being part of a greater project — not just the immediate walls of the restaurant. Finally, service was great. Our food came promptly, and we had a pleasant conversation about the food with our waitress as well. Hands down, you must try out Gail’s Kitchen if you haven’t yet!

Yep, that’s what I was looking for! On a saturday morning, me and my lady wanted to have a brunch in the Soho area. Tried to go to the breakfast club, the queue already crossed the first street and trying to reach the second one: result, probably more than 2 hours waiting in queue. Not exactly the best saturday morning. So we looked for another place with my beloved Unilocal app and there it was, Gail’s Kitchen! We went there and get to the wrong place. The entrance is the second one, the first one is just the bakery. After actually reaching the right place, we found the restaurant quite empty, hence we accommodated at a nice table next to the window and received the menu: a short list of dishes, everything seems to be a variation of classic dishes, we have pancakes, beans on toast&fried eggs, that sort of things that make you think«I want this and that, oh look that seems lovely I want to try it!». And that’s ending up in the two of us ordering dishes and sides! We had the two most unknown things on the menu, Shaksuka and Challa bread. First thing, the dishes are really well presented: nothing fancy or with stupid decorations(I hate not edible decorations: I want to eat everything on my plate, if something is there and I can’t eat that’s just stupid), solid food nicely presented. Shakshuka is basically a pot of tomatoes, eggs and cheese baked in the oven(I’m really simplyfying it, it’s just to get you an idea), completed with a huge slice of bread. The dish is rocking solid, with just that tiny bit of spicy that makes you want to have more of it, and more, and more! The challa bread is between bread and croissant, with a savory topping composed of a duck egg and a white mushroom ragu. This was awesome, no questions. Simple, right, focused on the spot and delicious. Please more! As sides, try the potatoes and the bacon! the latter one especially is awesome, with a small amount of fat(yes believe me, this bacon is shorter in fat than usual), perfectly crispy on the outside and moisty in the inside, marvellous! In the end, a rocking good delicious spot, I just hope people would like to spend 2 hours in queue for breakfast club leaving me to have brunch here everytime I wish!

My girl friend and I picked Gail’s for a speedy lunch — it looked like the sort of place where you could get a table and hear yourself think — a rarity in the middle of the West End at 1pm. We weren’t disappointed and the food was a revelation. We picked 2 small plates each and these were sensational: imaginative, flavourful and light. I had squid with chickpeas, Persian lemon stew, labneh and herbs and burrata with grilled bread, smoky aubergine, marjoram and honey. There was a set lunch option which meant 2 plates came to £19 and included a drink and bread board. Our waiter was fantastic too.

During a quick visit home, my friend recommended this place for lunch. It is just off from Tottenham Road, located inside Myhotel, where it used to be the hotel bar. Gail’s Bakery is just across the hall. The place is decorated in a sort of bright white Scandinavian fashion but not cheap looking. Dishes are come in small plates. There is also a special for lunch, where one can either choose 2 small plates with the bread board and a drink for 19 pound sterling, or 1 small plate with the bread board and a drink for 14 pound sterling. We picked the Mackerel with hips cabbage, granny smith apple, pickled chili & yoghurt, Seabass Carpaccio with roasted beetroot, crème fruit & salsa verde; Round Lettuce with celeriac, pear, pistachio & parmesan and Squid with chickpeas, Persian lemon stew, labneh & herbs. The bread was exquisite, I guess for a restaurant that actually started off with a bakery, that is not too much to ask. It is light. The ingredients are cleverly put together that you don’t normally see in another restaurant. Yet it gives a favor profile I had not experienced anywhere else. The food is plated elegantly that entice you. I left with happily satisfied with my light bite and bread. This is on my must list now when I go back to London. There is a reason why this place just won the Michelin BIB Gourmand Award 2015!

This is the restaurant from Gail’s Bakery that you see all over the city. My friend booked this place for brunch, so I thought it was a bakery café. Actually, it is a proper restaurant, and popular from the look of it. The restaurant is in an odd location, so it took me a bit of time to find it. It is next to a Gail’s Bakery and inside of a hotel. I like the clean and contemporary look of the interior. For Brunch, you can get your standard, egg, French toast, sausages and such. I had fried duck egg, chorizo, toasted potato, tomato butter, and my friend had Shakshuka(egg and feta bake). Both were solid effort for brunch dishes, but nothing too special. Maybe brunch isn’t the best way to judge a restaurant, but based on what I had, I am not making any plans to have dinner here any time soon.

Was really excited to go with a friend as the food here looked so fun and inviting. I had the mozzarella and pesto sandwich and my friend had the hummus one; we each had coffee. What I really didn’t like about Gail’s(in this particular location) was the poor service. I was asked if I wanted my sandwich toasted, I received it not toasted. Also, our table hadn’t been cleared, and we had to ask twice for them to clean it off, all they did was move the plates and glasses — didn’t bother to wipe it down. When my friend asked about water the woman responded quite rudely where it was. Overall, not impressed, not going back.

I’m glad to check this off my list of places to brunch, and it’s so central and close to lovely places like Russell Square. It seems to be part of a hotel, which you notice with cabs constantly dropped guests off in front of the windows, and the bizarre bathroom arrangement that has you go downstairs and down many corridors and past meeting rooms before you arrive at the oddest bathroom set-up I have ever seen. That said, my conclusion of brunch was that the food was excellent but the service was not. When I arrived, I was greatly in need of coffee, and we placed our order soon after arrival but it took over 15 minutes for an americano and orange juice to come to the table. I think that is excessive. The service was poor in other departments as well, such as getting water to the table and ordering the bill, but that aside it was a wonderful experience. We booked ahead of time and had no problem getting a table, and the restaurant was quite full when we arrived at 12:30PM on a Saturday, but it was rather empty by the time we left at 2PM. For food, I ordered the challa bread with guacamole, a poached duck egg, and dukkah, which are apparently Egyptian spices. My friend ordered the croissant with scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. This arrived shortly after the tardy drinks, but were amazing. I can’t say the duck egg tasted wildly different from a chicken egg, but the unique combination totally worked and I have to say the bread, guacamole, and spices were all top notch. The croissant was halved with scrambled eggs atop one half and generous portions of wonderfully pink smoked salmon on the other half. It looked fantastic. These two dishes seemed to be the most popular around the restaurant and for good reason!

Came here for brunch on Sunday, amazing food! We had the shakshooka, the duck egg with guacamole, the banana bread and the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. I can only say that this might be one of the best if not the best brunch I’ve had in London. The chocolate chip cookies are perfectly gooey and chocolaty and the rest of the food was just as good. The place also has an amazing ambience and interior which is surprising considering it’s so close Tottenham court road. The only fault I can find is the waiter who was a bit too active but the service was not bad overall and the food was delivered pretty fast. So overall as almost perfect brunch spot!

We spent tea time here, with a scone each. My friend had the sultana scone with clotted cream and jam, and I had the chocolate and cherry scone(comes plain). I wish I had the sultana scone! With cream and jam, it was a dream. My cherry scone was a wee bit dry so meh. I would come back and try their other scones and baked goods. This place smells like heaven!

At arms length from many campuses and youngsters places, the crowd is diverse, über cool, hipster even, and the atmosphere is respectively chill, nice ambience music and spaces served pleasantly with great food and drinks, all for a price anyone can handle

Great baked goods. The hot cross buns were still warm when I got there. Soft, moist, and smells so good in that orangy panettone way. The regular croissant is good, but their almond croissant was to die for. I liked it cause it has the serious crunch of almost a croûton all around. If you want a soft croissant, just get the plane croissant.

Loved the people working here tonight! I devoured an oatmeal cranberry cookie, pumpkin cinnamon cupcake, a pecan chocolate fudge brownie, and had an olive sourdough bread to take home that I dipped in oil and balsamic. I love you Gail– forever and ever!

Our high hopes for a great Sunday breakfast here were dashed just after walking in and being told that we couldn’t be seated because we weren’t staying at the adjoining hotel. I might have seen the sense in that were it not for the fact that half the tables were open, including the entire outside area. If the restaurant’s management is going to have this absurd policy about non-hotel patrons, the least they could do is advertise it on their website. Very disappointed.

Yummy deliciousness! I can’t even remember what else we ate, but those grilled cheeses were the best I’ve had in my entire life. The three of shared one, then we ordered another, then we ordered another. The rest of the food was delightful, too. And as an ovo-lacto vegetarian, it was so nice to go somewhere that offered such an extensive veg-friendly menu. The ambiance isn’t anything special, but the service was good, and the prices were very fair. Most importantly, the food was awesome, and that’s all that really matters in a restaurant.

I’d been meaning to check out Gail’s Kitchen as soon as it opened — I’m often tempted to stray into the Exmouth Market Gail’s Bakery which is temptingly sited on my route to work. The menu I saw online looked fantastic and I knew I’d find it almost impossible to choose what to have. The team behind the new venture have transformed the myhotel lobby into a really stylish venue, light, modern and comfortable. The waitress was fantastic, knew all the dishes and made some genuinely helpful recommendations. The small dishes encourage sharing but me and my friend were not in a sharing mood, so in the end we both had our own plate of smoked prawns with aioli and caramelised garlic bread(gorgeous, nicely balanced smoke and garlic — and after my trip to the dentist left me somewhat challenged in the teeth department they were happy to provide untoasted bread for me) I followed that with a roasted squash and chard dish with raisins and pine nuts, deliciously sweet and unctious, just what I wanted. My friend, apparently in the mood for fishy things on toast, segued from the prawns to a mackerel pâté with shards of rye crispbread, dramatically presented in a tall glass, and a very rich and generous serving of crab on toasted rye bread. For dessert, after my initial disappointment that the date pudding seemed to have vanished from the menu, I chose a very rich, gooey flourless chocolate cake with a decadent layer of caramel and crunchy almonds ribboned through it. My friend made short work of a rum baba with a dried fig compote. Very reasonable prices — loads more on the menu to choose from — this is a great new venture from Gails and I can’t wait to go back.
